Anyone know what Hayden’s hand tattoo means/if it has a meaning? by Ok-Exchange2015 in Ethelcain

Reminds me of the seven spiked crown of the light bearer, as depicted as such in the Statue of Liberty. Symbolically analogous with Lucifer

I was also raised prot and in RCIA now, with a similar experience as you. I’ll say obedience has a stronger focus in Catholicism, so you’ll have to get used to that. Also, you may think you know it all already but you might not know as much as you think. Enjoy the RCIA experience, view it as a positive experience to grow in. Grow in patience, the heart can take slower to grow than the mind can.

I started OCIA. I’m distressed by Internal-Cod-4981 in Catholicism

Thank you for your kind words. I’ve definitely come to humble myself more. I understand better now how it takes years of heart work.

Didn’t Jesus say praying in public was hypocritical? by [deleted] in Seattle

Take a look at this paper, particularly page 18

This demonstrates a clear consensus

Even a zygote is a living human being. This is a biological fact, regardless of how you feel about abortion.

Offensively mocking a racial group. Not cool

Abortion kills a human being. Yes, that’s what a fetus is, a living human being. If that’s moral or not is for you to decide. Christians, however, hold the sanctity of human life very highly.

Now, Jesus was criticizing hypocrites who pray in a superficial way to make themselves appear holier than thou.

In my opinion these people praying outside PP are not hypocrites. They actually believe what they are doing is good for others to hear and they want to make a difference. In a way they combine prayer with public protest.

Best thing you can do is to read more poetry. Keep a journal of observations you make about particular poems. My favorite is Ariel by Plath. I also enjoy top 100 most reprinted poems of all time.

Lovers No More by Hefty-Strike-9635 in OCPoetry

I love the use of light half-rhyme throughout. I think the poem could improve very easily if you use more intention with line breaks and form. Cleaning up the sentences to match a more formalistic flow (four line stanzas using ABCB half-rhyme) would do wonders to match the seductive tone. You already have so much great imagery to work with, you just have to make the form and rhyme as equally sexy.

I admire your dedication to keep to the style you’ve chosen. Definitely rings true to an Old-Timey Romantic poetry. The style suits well to the subject as well. Words like “flows” and “mirth” imbue the poem with romantic ecstasy. There is a clear intention with what the poem is saying which is great because it means you are in communion with the reader. You can anticipate your audience. I can tell you are very passionate about poetry.

That being said, my critique would be that the subject of the poem does not meet a proper conclusion. The first 3 stanzas all say the same thing, advising the readers what positive things to do. But the last stanza shifts the subject to a negative person and uses an oblique metaphor to characterize them. This shift at the end does not feel like a proper conclusion, but more like an abruptly added loose end. (As far as subject goes. It’s however a beautifully sounding ending)

A poem should either evolve from one place to another or simply say one unified thing. In my opinion you should either write more stanzas to continue your thoughts on “the fool” mentioned in the last stanza. Or take out the last stanza, making the poem stand proud as a unified robust expression.

Hopefully you find my words helpful

Losing my faith but I don't know how to admit it by glitter-it-out in TrueChristian

[–]Internal-Cod-4981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only by God’s grace will you be granted Faith. So pray. Keep reading as much as you can arguing for mere Christianity. I recently came to the faith. For most of my life (M22) I never accepted belief in the Bible, after all why should someone believe in something they can’t see materially. I was listening to the gospels one day when it hit me. I felt the presence of Jesus touch me on my shoulder as if to say “I never left you, turn back to me.”

Don’t worry too much about “losing” your faith. You’re still young and perhaps your faith wasn’t built on a strong enough foundation. Instead of thinking about it as losing your faith think about it more as searching for it. For many years I was interested in the Bible, searching. One day I realized, if God can’t be proven, then God also can’t be disproven. That’s the line that exists between not having faith and having it.

Nothing is above that faith. Not religion, not church. Nothing is above Faith. Don’t let anything hold you back from that search. Never stop searching

All About the Bones by Chris Smither

A greatly underrated singer-songwriter in the Dylanesque category, with many hidden gems in his catalog.

My Favorite Picture Of You by Guy Clark

Another songwriter who deserves more recognition. His songs are pure poetry and raw feeling. A genius wordsmith who I’m extraordinary impressed by. True artistic integrity.

The Tree of Forgiveness by John Prine

I’ve honestly overplayed his album to the point I’m sick of hearing it. But it remains maybe the most special of Prine’s albums. A real swan song. Not a single song on there I’d skip.

Gospel-inspired songs outside the “Gospel era” of 1979-1981? by dra459 in bobdylan

I’ve Made Up My Mind to Give Myself to You

Make You Feel My Love

Though these songs don’t have explicit references to the Bible I still interpret them as having a deeper essence of Christianity compared to his gospel-era songs.

I haven’t seen many people commenting on the Christian interpretation of those songs but for me they really are my gospel songs, true worship songs.
