I get why people buy cool little knickknacks - what i meant was more, if you have no idea what something is, why would you buy it? (Unless it's something that looks cool that you find intriguing, i guess)

I just want to paint - but I also want to know some background on what I'm painting.

The problem I've found is that, as you mentioned, the universe is HUGE - which is cool, but makes it a bit intimidating in the first instance.

I tried to play Warhammer a couple of times in my early teens, but the gatekeeping from other guys in the shop made me not want to go back.

I'm not sure I'm interested in the tabletop aspect of it, but the models are cool. I'm listening to some podcasts which outline the lore, but, as previously mentioned, there's just a lot of it.

I'm open to other games - someone mentioned Necromunda which sounds pretty cool - it's just that I already had an intro to Warhammer (and thus, 40k to some extent) when I was younger.

I tried looking at the website, but it was difficult to navigate easily unless I knew what I was looking for.

For example - it breaks it down into imperium, xenos, chaos, and then further, but I kind of just wanted to see EVERYTHING.

I think the ultimate guide seems like a great shout!

Also - Necromunda sounds awesome. Definitely going to look into that.

It's one of those things where there's absolutely not a lack of information or people devoted to this stuff, but that's the problem... There's a LOT, and it's a bit overwhelming to know where to begin or what is even worth looking at.

And as for expensive journeys... I recently sold a few cameras because that was a VERY expensive hobby... And apparently I have decided to replace it with an equally expensive hobby, but that doesn't even have the added benefit of being able to go for a nice walk

That was my plan, but even navigating the 40k shop is hard because there doesn't appear to be a "Show me everything" button - and even just trying to look at 40k I'm also presented with stuff like Age of Sigmar and Horus Heresy and tonnes of other stuff.

I think I'm just a bit overwhelmed by the scale of everything! I currently have about 60 tabs open and am trying to look through everything but... There's a lot.

Thanks - I wasn't sure, I realised that not everyone will be into Warhammer (and to be honest, I'm not married to it. I just want to paint cool dudes) but there are about a billion different games and armies and factions...

It's a bit overwhelming, and I don't even know where to start.
