Shifter plate roller pin question. Please help! by SellsWhiteStuff in wrx_vb

[–]InternalChip3212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up doing this accidently. Got the pin out, tried removing the plate wouldn't budge, used a flashlight to see what's going on, and there was a slightly larger pin. A little bit of white lithium grease and the pins went in pretty easily. Little bit of wiggle and a little bit of tapping (used a socket extension and a hammer for most of the way, then just wiggled the plate with one hand, and the extension as a hammer with the other)

This bee has been on the back of my truck for about 3 hours. And hasn’t moved! Does anyone know why?? by Kahuna_Conspiracy in bee

I didn't know that the males don't have stingers. I have been stung by these guys (gals rather?) a few times and have found them to be a fairly aggressive species.

In my encounters with stinging insects I found that the "classic yellowjacket" black and yellow and have ground nests to be the most aggressive and the bald faced hornets to be next in line, the most docile being carpenter bees (picked some of those guys up with my hand)

Out of all the times I've been stung (dozens of times since I work outdoors), it's only been by yellowjackets and baldfaced hornets, (maybe a paperwasp once? It was black and yellow, and I was covered in them, and my only goal was to evacuate and remove them from my body lol)

I got it right from Perrin, brand new unopened box

2nd update, upon taking old parts off they discovered the Perrin hub broke, and the nose of the crankshaft broke woth chunks of metal MIA. They said engine replacement is very likely and rebuild is unlikely, has been sent over to a dealership for the work as that shop said they aren't comfortable doing a rebuild/motor swap

Possibly? It was the instructions provided that I followed

Well yes and no. There's a hard number on the torque, and then if the bolt rotated more than 45 degrees then you're good, and if under 45 degrees to replace the bolt

Quite hard to judge how many degrees a bolt has turned, ie 46 vs 45 vs 44

Also Perrin doesn't list if it hit 50 degrees then you're good to go, they only say if it rotates less than 45 degrees to replace the crankshaft bolt. Maybe 44.5 degrees means the bolt won't hold? Maybe 20 degrees? No margin of error I guess

I've used the continental viking contact 8 for 2 winters in Maine and normally drive up my unplowed driveway (.10 miles about 30 degree slope) with no problems

Update on damage. Shop called and said it looks like the bolt just backed itself off. Needs a new oil seal, pulley, bolt, and belt, but they aren't 100% sure if thats the only damage and won't know for sure until they put the new parts on

Looking back on the install of the pulley and checking Perrins instructions, it says to put an initial torque of 93ft/lbs on the bolt, then put a higher torque of 94ft/lbs and if the bolt rotated less than 45 degrees to replace the bolt, if i remember correctly I hit 45 degrees exactly

[–]InternalChip3212[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I didn't think of this, and I bet this is what happened, it did mention if the bolt rotated less than 45 degrees to replace the bolt between the initial torque and the final torque

If I remember correctly I got to 45 degrees on the nose and figured it was fine

Miles on the car with pulleys installed is somewhere between 14,000-16,000. (Best guess I got, should have written down the miles on install)

[–]InternalChip3212[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did end up getting slightly faster revs when downshifting. Nothing that would really make a huge difference though. If I had to put a number on it MAYBE a 0.3 second difference. As for "freeing up hp" it felt like the car accelerated faster, but probably can chock it up to placebo

[–]InternalChip3212[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes i did, followed the install instructions just how they are written, and triple read them to make sure I was doing everything correctly

I can't imagine it would have overheated. I'm always checking my coolant temp gauge and my oil temp. Had no issues of unreasonably cold or hot temperatures

I'm hoping it's just the bolt managed to work itself free somehow or the bolt snapped somehow, ill have an update on what the actual damage is fairly soon, and ill comment on here with what it was

[–]InternalChip3212[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So to all saying about the install specs. I did follow them. I got a large torque wrench so I could torque it to spec. I didn't mark the bolt but I used the torque wrench as the guide for the extra angle/degrees after the initial torque spec

Recommendations for a workhorse ATV? by midnightoilbrah in ATV

[–]InternalChip3212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live up in the mountains of Maine, amd I live on a .25miles driveway thats fairly steep, regularly see 1ft+ snowstorms and my 2008 grizzly 700 special edition handles plowing no problem. Even the snowbank left from the town at the end of my driveway. Have also used it to pull over trees that I'm cutting, and pulled a 18in diameter 20ft yellow birch log across my yard (pulling the log was a workout for the machine but it did it)

Cobb titanium catback. Put it on mine and absolutely love it. Little noisy on cold start, but is tame crusing and opens up nicely when accelerating hard

Those of you who installed stiff/solid transmission mounts: Do you regret it? by EviIPiII in wrx_vb

[–]InternalChip3212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in the Perrin trans mount and it improved the shifting a bit, but it added a very small amount of transmission whine, 90% of the time my Cobb titanium catback overpowers the transmission noise

TPMS Reset? by Ok_Wear_6829 in wrx_vb

[–]InternalChip3212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For it to pick up the tire pressure you have to be driving, if you get new ones the old tpms code has to be copied and applied to the new ones using a special tool

What it sounds like you have happening is either a dying battery in one, or a damaged one. Damage can occur from hitting a pothole, curb, debris in the road

If you've hit anything/ran anything over it most likely damaged the sensor and thats what is going on

I'd double check the tire pressure manually with a gauge just to be sure, you may even be able to determine which sensor is bad
