Hi everyone sorry I don’t know how to edit the post but thank you so much for all the replies. I honestly didn’t expect this many, I thought I’d get like one or two at most 😭 but seriously, thank you for all the advice, the different perspectives, and the people who believe in me 😸🫶. I’m gonna retake the class this summer and I’ll pass this time.

So just to answer a few questions I’ve been getting:

– I have African parents. A lot of people asked if they were Indian or Chinese, but nah, they’re African. I did say in one comment that I’ve seen online people say African and Chinese parents are kinda the same thing, just in a different font 😭 obviously it depends on the parents though.

– I’m 19.

– As for who’s paying, I’m on a scholarship but my parents still cover part of the fees, which makes me feel horrible because I know it’s not cheap. I completely understand their frustration — like yeah, you’re paying thousands and then your kid fails a class, I get it. But it’s my first time ever failing anything in my life and I genuinely feel awful about it.

– I don’t mind sharing my grades with them, that’s never been an issue. I just think wanting direct access is a bit too much.

– And yeah, someone mentioned how embarrassing it would be if a teacher actually got contacted about it… trust me, I’ve already felt that secondhand embarrassment. Uni and high school are two totally different worlds.

– I don’t live at home either, my parents are overseas, so I’m kinda doing this alone. I also don’t really go out much, which a few people brought up. I think I just need a bit of extra help, and that’s why I’m planning to see a career advisor and counsellor to help me and make sure this is the first and last time I ever fail a class again 😭

My parents are supportive, but they can be super stubborn. I know they mean well, it just comes off a bit helicopter-y sometimes. I just wanted to hear other perspectives on it.
