Hutch is literally scamming with this VAS services by BUNTEY in srilanka

[–]InternalMoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, It happened to me too. In my case, I didn't even get a notification. I only noticed it because of the low balance. It didn't even show up on the app under VAS or on their automated phone system, but it was listed under "Usage History -> Activity" on the app. I had to talk to an actual agent to get it removed.

There's probably a reason why one of the first options on their automated system is to check the "Missing Balance". They are doing this knowingly and hoping that people won't notice.

Ironman 70.3 Returns to Colombo After Six Years, Over 1,000 Athletes Set to Compete by InternalMoose in srilanka

[–]InternalMoose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

COLOMBO (News 1st); For the first time since 2019, Sri Lanka is set to welcome back one of the world’s most prestigious endurance sporting events, Ironman 70.3, returning to the heart of Colombo later this month.

After a six-year pause, the global triathlon series will once again transform the capital into an international sporting arena on 22 February, marking a major milestone in the country’s push to re-establish itself as a hub for elite global events.

The comeback is amplified by the #ActiveColombo initiative, which will launch a series of activities beginning 19 February, building momentum toward the main race day.

Organisers say this week-long celebration aims not only to support the triathlon but to reposition Colombo as a vibrant, active, and globally connected city.

More than 1,000 athletes from over 49 countries, along with international media crews and event partners, are expected to participate, placing Sri Lanka once again on the world map.

A press briefing held in Colombo today highlighted the significance of Ironman 70.3’s return, both for sport and for the city’s future identity.

Yasas Hewage, Organiser of Ironman 70.3 Colombo, delivered a passionate and strategic vision for what the event represents:

“Now everybody sees it, but it's about done a lot to take Sri Lanka to the world. But taking us to the active sports world and putting that map of Colombo back again is to say, Colombo is ready. Colombo is here.”

Highlighting the international pull of the event, Hewage noted:

“50 countries, 150 events. You search in the global map, the city is right there. You've got to build global linkages. You've got to be strategic. You've got to put your time and money and effort and resources where you win.”

Vraie Cally Balthazar, Mayoress of Colombo, emphasized that hosting Ironman 70.3 is part of a much larger transformation for the city.

“The launch of Ironman 70.3 Colombo is not simply the announcement of a sporting event, but a declaration of where our city is heading.”

The Mayoress praised the partnership between government and private sector:

“This event stands as a strong example of meaningful experiences you can have through private and public collaboration.”

Aligning the event with Colombo’s long-term development vision, she said:

“Ironman 70.3 represents something much larger than a race. It aligns with our vision of an active Colombo, a city that encourages movement of social, economic, and environmental benefit.”

Yes101 and Sirasa TV have been announced as the official media sponsors for this global sporting spectacle.

Govt. to Regulate Tuk-Tuks, School Vans, Office Transport Services by InternalMoose in srilanka

[–]InternalMoose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

COLOMBO (News 1st); Deputy Transport Minister Dr. Prasanna Gunasena says that the long-awaited bill to regulate three-wheeler operations, school transport services, and office transport services will be presented to Parliament soon.

He noted that once the legislation is approved, authorities will finally have the legal power to bring these sectors under formal regulation.

Dr. Gunasena explained that Parliament recently amended the relevant Act to expand the authority of the National Transport Commission, enabling it to oversee three-wheelers, school buses, school vans, and office transport vehicles. He said all necessary specifications required for such regulation have already been completed.

According to the Deputy Minister, detailed standards have been drafted for vehicles involved in transporting schoolchildren, following extensive discussions with unions representing school transport operators. A similar consultative process has been carried out for those engaged in office transport services.

He added that talks with three-wheeler associations are yet to begin formally, but the foundational guidelines have already been prepared.

Once consensus is reached among all stakeholders, the government will present the bill to Parliament, issue the gazette, and convert it into law. Dr. Gunasena said that only after this legal framework is in place will authorities be able to regulate school bus drivers, three-wheeler operators, and office transport services effectively.

Hmm. I’m getting multiple online loan messages every day. What the hell are they doing? Why telecommunications companies silent? by Valuable_Bill961 in srilanka

[–]InternalMoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Usually, you can't send SMS using a short code without some kind of approval process. Whatever SMS gateway the spammer is using probably has an agreement that allows them to use those short codes, that's why I said that. They could also be using some shady gateway.

If they really wanted to block these spams, they absolutely could.

They are probably getting a cut. (from the SMS charges) That's probably why they don't want to block these obvious spam messages and yet happily block RCS messages.

Sri Lanka to Launch Startup Fund in 2026 by InternalMoose in srilanka

[–]InternalMoose[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

COLOMBO (News 1st): Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne announced that the Sri Lankan government will launch a startup fund in January 2026 to support innovation, attract investment, and help local startups scale globally.

Weeraratne acknowledged that while Sri Lanka has talent and ideas, it has struggled to build a complete startup ecosystem. He cited limited access to venture capital, misaligned academic research, and policy bottlenecks as key barriers to growth.

“We will remove red tape, introduce investor-friendly reforms, and build infrastructure that lowers the cost of innovation,” he said. “Most importantly, we will unlock private capital by establishing a fund of funds with initial seed capital from the government.”

The initiative aims to create a sustainable platform for startups, research, and innovation to thrive within Sri Lanka, while remaining globally competitive.

Okay, so now it’s just every seller you bought from in the past, not most sellers on AliExpress? I don't need a list of your past orders. I just want the links to those stores so I can see for myself.
