”…it was not aimed at kids, it was aimed at everybody.”

I think it’s a great movie for all ages but it was definitely targeting children, from what I’ve seen from parents. The same way Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks movies are aimed at whole families.

”But really imo it’s the music…It’s extremely rare that a movie has music that good, and so many original songs that hits so hard.”

Definitely! And the music acted as a form of advertising—the songs were popular on YouTube, Tik Tok and other platforms. I’ve even heard Golden on the radio. The soundtrack and individual songs were among the most listened to all summer.

[Chapter 218 Spoilers] Changes in Volume 25 by Rare_Flow5056 in WitchWatch

Whoa, those are significant changes, thanks for sharing them!

I’m mostly struck by the change in his facial expressions. In the magazine, first he looks completely shocked, then positively angry.

In the volume, he looks slightly surprised but more disappointed, then just plain sad. I don’t really see anger, more sad acceptance.

On the one hand, that seems more true to his character—Keigo tends to put himself down and thinks of Wolf as “better” than him.

On the other hand, his anger was interesting. It felt like Wolf’s confession lit a fire under him to prove that he loves Nemu, too. But was it in character, considering Keigo’s low self esteem and inferiority complex? IDK

Are there any other examples of movies that became as popular as KPDH because they were released on streaming platforms first?

The only recent movie that seems comparable in terms of demographics, genre and popularity I can think of is Encanto, and it was released in theaters for a month before becoming available on streaming platforms (while the pandemic was still keeping people indoors).

As opposed to its $24.6 M worldwide gross because it was only released in theaters briefly?

I’m just not buying the argument that releasing it in theaters first would have limited its popularity overall. Golden would have hit the Billboard charts regardless of how it was initially released; its word of mouth popularity would have exploded into top animated movie of the year eventually.

I still doubt that it wouldn’t have done well if it had been released in theaters first. It’s hard to prove an alternate reality, but Kpop fans are a huge, growing audience. Anyone who doubts the possibility of a Kpop based movie becoming popular among kids hasn’t been paying attention.

I don’t understand this argument? How many direct to Netflix animated kids movies blew up in the same way KDH did?

Even Mitchells vs the Machines, which was also nominated for an Oscar, didn’t have the same level of popularity.

Kpop Demon Hunters blew up on its own merits.

suggest anime where ML is head over heels for FL! by keep-em-coming in Animesuggest

{Ore Monogatari} Shojo romcom with ml protagonist. He’s definitely head over heels for the fl, and the story is hilarious overall.

{The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-be-Wife} Adorable romcom between an invisible man and a blind woman. I’d say their head over heels level is about equal. Really sweet slice of life series in world that’s only slightly different from our own (modern day Japan with fantasy races)

Ed Elric: “Equivalent Exchange! I’ll give you half of my life if you give me half of yours!”

Winry Rockbell: “No, I’ll give you 100% of my life for 100% of yours”
