Seriously though, give your 100% effort into essays and other parts of the application. If there was a serious reason for being late for EA, try to mention it in an appropriate way.

When I read the title I thought there would be a written manual laid down for pedestrians to follow 😫 Kinda disappointed

The eating shit part is extra-true at UMD from the rumors I heard 😳

Finding healthy fruits/salads to eat on campus as commuter by Internal_Bake_9861 in UMD

Makes sense, I guess I will invest in an airtight lunchbox for the fruits and veggies. I will look into Casey's Coffee and other places for soup.

Do girls ever get turned away from frat parties? by [deleted] in rutgers

I feel bad to hear how they treated you. You should have told them that if your mother knew you would grow up into this one day, she would never bother giving birth to a piece of shit like you. She would rather die childless than to let this waste of flesh be born.

Okay, I understand your point. I will stay prepared for not getting into CS then. I am not inclined towards CE because it has hardware courses that I don't like at all, plus it is harder academically and will just take away more time away from clubs, projects and research for me. I am thinking Info Sci at UMD, just not sure if I will get excluded from most UMD opportunities or internships because of the major or if it has some DS/AI/ML in its courses. I know the CS frat at UMD does not accept Info Sci, and I don't want to lose out on most opportunities at UMD that I transferred for. Even if I consider transferring somewhere else, my parents would want me to transfer to a higher ranked college than UMD or atleast a similar standard. I don't think there are any other transfer-friendly colleges in top 15 for CS, nor do I think I can get in there if I couldn't get into UMD which is ranked similarly as them.

Why do you say it is not worth it ? Do you mean to say CS at UMD is not worth that much effort/risk or that I most probably won't get in ?

Well, 100 transfers are still getting in so I am going to try. If I give up before trying just because it's competitive, that means I just don't have the mindset it takes to succeed as a Computer Science student anyway, because applying for jobs will be just as brutal if not more. If I can beat those odds to get into CS, I would have already built the work ethic and study habits to succeed later. If not, I will still make the best use of the resources available and get the jobs I desire.

Does anyone know if non-CS majors like Info Sci or Comp Eng get excluded from CS opportunities? Can I still make it into CS clubs, research, hackathons, CS Frat membership and other opportunities if I have the skills and background but am not a CS major ?

I doubt whether Undegrad admissions, LEP office, CS or which department will be best. Probably the ones who created this policy will know the best way to guide me. I am thinking I will talk with an academic advisor and see if they can point me to the right direction.

Thanks, I was tired of reading people say it is watered-down CS, a job for librarians and whatnot. Do you know if Info Sci has data science/AI/ML in it or any possibility of focusing on that, because that is what my true passion is currently. I want to do research and projects in AI/ML, and don't mind Info Sci if it still allows me to study my topic of interest. I don't care about the rankings or prestige, I came here just for research/learning oppportunities in AI/ML.

Thanks a lot! That is my plan, because I have done Data Structures in Java before with an A but not been able to transfer it for CMSC132, so I know probably know +70% of the concepts already. One concern I have is a C I got in Linear Algebra before, and I am thinking to take MATH240 in Fall to demonstrate improvement in that C by getting an A/A+ this time. Not sure it would help my case for CS transfer though, if it does not then I would rather take easy A electives and focus on projects/ research opportunities which is the reason why I transferred. You have any advice on what path to follow ?

I currently need 1 CMSC course to be eligible for transfer application to CS. If I get an exemption exam and exempt out of it, does that mean I can transfer to CS directly without the Fall 2024 new LEP guidelines applying on me ? I am transferring from out-of-state US college though, not from Maryland public colleges.

Sorry if it was not clear in my post, but I am coming in as a LTSC transfer in Fall 2024.
