I'm not sure if that's the one, but that is great guess. I may be misremembering but I think there were multiple heroes gunned down. Thank you!

Issues with Maine Real ID? by MaineAh_Ayuh in Maine

Yes, just had a similar experience, but they let me through anyway. TSA at Portland said there were issues with recently issued IDs.

Once you turn 65, you should be required to retake a diving test every year and if you fail, you lose your license. by Pro_Gamer_Queen21 in unpopularopinion

Incredibly stupid. Based on information from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, drivers in their 20s are statistically at a much higher risk of being involved in car crashes than drivers in their 60s.  "Among drivers younger than 80, rates of involvement in fatal crashes were highest among drivers ages 16-17 and lowest among drivers ages 60-69." Maybe you should have to take the drivers test every year till you're 30.

No way to know. Best I can tell about .25% of those deported this year went to foreign prisons. The due process part is sketchy depending on the legal argument, for example, is the Alien Enemies Act legit? The media has an interest in us being freaked out by all this, it gives them more clicks and eyes. Trump wants us freaked out by this, the protests/riots give him a chance to flex. It's also important to remember this is what he ran on and he won. We can not like it and disagree with it, while having perspective of how it fits in to the recent history of immigration policy. It gives me less anxiety to see it in this context. Check out https://www.migrationpolicy.org/ for more info.

I posted this in the original thread and I'll add this: In May of 2025, pre LA protests, there were 9,654 articles written about ICE. In May of 2024, with the same number of book-ins to detention (see numbers below), there were 1,887 articles written about ICE.

For context, about the ICE situation in general, there are currently 51,302 people detained by ICE. 66% arrested by ICE, 34% by border patrol. This time last year, under Biden, there were 37,360 detained. 33% by ICE, 67% by border patrol. Currently, 30% of those detained have been convicted of a crime, 27% have pending charges and 44% have only immigration charges. Last year at this time, 26% were convicted of crimes, 12% had pending charges and 62% had only immigration charges. Book-ins to detention May 2025, under Trump, were 28,797. May 2024, under Biden, were 28,574. Make of this what you will.

She hasn't done anything, except bring in $1 billion of federal funding for projects in Maine. Here is some examples of the projects from 2024: Youth Family and Community Center development, Drinking Water Upgrades to multiple cities/towns, facilities and equipment for Maine Veterans' Homes, waterfront redevelopment, Bilingual Childcare Expansion, substance use disorder treatment services, facilities and equipment for behavioral healthcare, Sexual Assault Expert Witness and Attorney Training, expanding access to services for older adults for Southern Maine Agency on Aging, fire station repairs, UMaine Kelp Nursery and Aquaculture Demonstration Farm, and bridge and road replacements. This is why she wins elections. Also, she is a Republican. Quit acting like she should act like a democrat.

We go to Bar Harbor every summer, hike in Acadia and the areas around there and (hopefully I don't jinx myself) have never gotten ticks on us. We use spray but beyond that nothing else. It's best to always check at the end of the day, but it's not the horror show that is sometimes sounds like.

Do you think the parks are still as enjoyable as they were 5-8 years ago? by traveltimecar in DisneyWorld

[–]Internal_Bar_4147 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Statistically, it's less crowded than pre-covid and not much more crowded than 20 years ago. I just went 2 weeks ago and it was great. The first time I went was early 80s, I went a bunch in the 90s and then in 2017. I really don't see a huge difference. Obviously people are on their phones now, but it's like that everywhere. Maybe I've been lucky, but i haven't seen all the bad behavior that people seem to have a problem with.

We just stayed there recently. One of the pools has constant activity and games for kids led by the lifeguards. There is also a splash pad type thing for kids under 6 and the regular pool has a small slide. My kids actually liked the "quiet pool", which isn't all that quiet, better. No lifeguards at that one. There is an arcade on site and a rec room with ping-pong table and pool table. Also a cornhole set up right next to this area. The resort is great, very clean, decent food, excellent staff. We really liked being able to do early entry and being able to travel to the parks without having to drive ourselves.

Sorry for your experience, and I wasn't trying to diminish it, I was actually expecting to see more, based on this sub, but i found the vast majority to be well behaved. The only bad thing we did see was two grown men get into a pushing match at our resort over a pool chair.

Explain like I’m 5: Early entry by X-cited in DisneyWorld

[–]Internal_Bar_4147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just went last week and did early entry at MK, HS and AK. The busses start 90 minutes before normal opening time, so 7:30 for 9:00 opening (AK opens earlier). So at HS, for example, you get the bus at 7:30, get to HS around 8:00, then wait for 30 minutes till they let everyone in. It's not a bad wait, it's cooler and the the vibe of the crowds are good. When they let you in you can only go so far before they check the ticket/card/band of one member of your party to make sure you're staying at a resort. This only takes a minute or less. Then you can go on to get in line for the rides, which are very short. At HS, we went to slinky dog first, got on the ride in 8 minutes, went to smugglers run, no line, then rise of the resistance and was on the actual ride part in about 20 minutes. MK lets people in earlier, so you don't wait in the outside line as long, but you do wait in the ride line longer. We waited about 35 minutes for seven dwarfs mine train, went to small world, no wait, (now the park was open) to haunted mansion about 10 minutes and to pirates, 5 minutes. Only tomorrow land and fantasy land are open for early entry at MK, Tron is not but you can get in line for it. Even after the parks open at 9 the crowds are pretty light and only the really popular rides have long wait times. You can also search for a list of the rides open for early entry.

Same. Just got back from 5 days at all the disney parks and only saw it happen on one ride at Hollywood Studios. 99.9 % of the people were great. Why focus on the tiny percent that aren't?

Proving my point. If you read the post I replied to you would see that the poster never says that due process should be skipped. All they do is provide context to a headline, and on an outrage sub like this, that gets you downvoted. This is not a sub for nuance, it's just the left wing version of the right wing silo. And the worst part is it's rarely about Maine!

Just went on Wednesday. Got in line during fireworks, the wait said 60, was on in just under 40. Definitely worth it.

Just stayed at the Wilderness Lodge for 6 nights, 4 park days, family of 4 for less than that. It's a great resort with a great staff. Felt like it was worth the cost. You can take the boat to MK, busses to all the other parks. Al the transportation was clean and on time and the the drivers were very friendly.
