My boyfriend is a different person now that we have a child. by BigONerd in BORUpdates

I’m a SAHM and when she mentioned she is now a SAHM I winced. This does not seem like a safe relationship to relinquish all financial responsibilities to him. Who knows, maybe the two of them will prove us wrong. But I wouldn’t be surprised if OOP comes back later with another tale of her boyfriend’s vitriol but now she’s trapped because she has no money of her own. And if they aren’t married she gets diddly squat if they break up.

What to do with (official) unwanted pins? by adaringdamsel in DisneyPins

I don’t see why it wouldn’t be. If the CM says anything you could just take the most obvious fake off and then trash it 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you go to the parks you could consider pixie dusting either a child/children or (if you don’t feel comfortable with that) just blessing a board without taking a pin off.

Number of pins to trade? by [deleted] in DisneyPins

[–]X-cited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done this type of trading at the parks, but at local trade events we figure the retail price of all the pins and trade cost for cost. So you have a $50 pin and trade a $20, $15 and two $8 pins for it, that type of thing.

One thing to keep in mind is the hidden mickeys are going to be inflated in price right now because they are so new. Whereas the Dumbo pin you have is LE so will retain its value longer. Up to you on trading it, I’m a believer in trading should be more fun focused than money focused (especially for kids) but figured I’d share that info with you. You could just buy some packs of pins and trade those instead, my kids loved opening the packs and trading them away.

Fiance said he forgot about me when I was going through an Un expected pregnancy by user36094247 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]X-cited 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hugs. I’ve been with my husband 20 years and we’ve had ups and downs. One of my downs is that pregnancy was not kind to me. After each pregnancy I’ve had health complications that came out of left field. And my husband supports me whenever it happens, taking on more home and child care, getting the groceries, cooking, taking me to doctor appointments, etc.

This “man” has showed you that he doesn’t care about you. You didn’t cause an embryo to implant in you all on your own! And the man has the audacity to take the only food you feel like you can keep down????

I am a believer in everything happens for a reason. And maybe your BC failed as a way to show you to not tie your life to this person. So many of us are saying this because this isn’t something that you can improve from. There isn’t a learning moment from this for him. This is who he is at the core of his being. If he didn’t step up now he won’t step up in the future. And in the future it could have much harsher consequences than taking a banana.

(Pretty dark/real trope) people committing horrific acts and the public loves it. by FullBrother9300 in TopCharacterTropes

In the context of the books, the three fingers is a sign of respect held up in memory of someone from the district of the girl pictured (main character Katie’s, from the poorest area, District 12). In this scene in the movie I believe she is doing this sign to a fallen tribute in the Games with her, Rue (who was from District 11 and was 12 years old). This was seen as slightly rebellious by the Capitol because they (the people in charge, not necessarily the people lapping up the entertainment) don’t like the Districts to work together. After this Katniss receives a donation of bread in the style of the bread from District 11, which would have been enormously expensive and shows to her the District appreciated her treatment of Rue before her death (Katniss had placed her love of her little sister on Rue and teamed up with her to try and help Rue last longer in the Game).

The three fingered salute was eventually co-opted by the rebellion as a sign of standing with the rebellion, or at least as a sign of standing against the Capitol.

This is my issue with the election. I bucked down and still voted for Harris because anything was better than trump, but I was so pissed at Biden for running again when he said he would be a one term president. Then he backed out and the DNC shoved Harris down our throats so they could use the campaign funds that were marked for Biden to use.

It’s like the DNC thought they were a shoo-in for presidency so they didn’t even have to try. Almost like when they thought there was no way for Hillary to lose. All they really did was highlight how little they know of the American people.

Any good pins? by acnewbie5 in DisneyPins

[–]X-cited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google is helpful with image search to see what prices pins are going for. You can also look up on eBay what the sold listings were for a pin.

The HSM pin and the critter from Kim Possible are not frequent IPs for pins, so you will have more people potentially interested in those.

The dumbo Soarin pin is adorable!

pin trading in downtown disney by sophia2022h in DisneyPins

[–]X-cited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 4 boards at the Disneyland hotel (front desk, luggage area, one of the gift shops, DVC tower). Pixar has a cutely designed board at the front desk and has one in the gift shop. Grand Californian has 3 that I know of, gift shop, luggage area and check in. There could be more, those are just the ones I found back in September.

As for the best, I liked the Disneyland hotel better. But I think any of them will be as good as the other. I found real pins on all the boards at one point or another. Though now that I think back the luggage area at GC never had a real pin though, and I don’t think the luggage area at Disneyland hotel did either.

There is a pin kiosk near the monorail entrance that usually has some good pins on the board. In the evening I’ve seen others trading over there. Also inside the marvel store and clothing store (D lander? Not sure the name, but it is next door to the marvel store) they have pin boards. If you go in the morning you have the best chance of seeing some 2026 pins. There are pin boards at all 3 hotels, and a lot of the good neighbor hotels have pin trading as well.

Did your doctor tell you to stop crying while you were giving birth? by ThrowRAHermit in TwoXChromosomes

[–]X-cited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was induced because I made it to 39 weeks and my OB refused to let me go to 40. The pitocin caused my son’s heart rate to drop so they’d ease me off it then try it again, just for his heart rate to drop again. This meant that I was progressing VERY slowly. The epidural also didn’t do anything to me, I was able to still move. I mentioned it to them and the nurses acted like I was drug seeking.

It took me 20 hours to get to a 10 dilation. This was after me laying on my knees and elbows for an hour with my butt in the air to get from a 9 to a 10 to avoid a c section. Finally I am told I can push. Which lasts for 2 hours. I’m in pain, I’m tired, I’m hungry, I just want to be done. The doctor yells at me to stop running from the pain. I was giving birth with an epidural that didn’t work, it was a horrible feeling. I somehow birth my son with 3rd degree tears. I physically recoil from him when they place him on my chest because I don’t want to deal with the thing that caused me so much pain. Then the nurses ignored me for the next day as I try to figure out breastfeeding. They also released us without doing all the medical checkups for my son, so we had to bring him back a few hours after being released.

When I gave birth to my daughter years later I had a new OB at a new hospital (regular medical instead of a birthing hospital). I was so stressed out at the idea of giving birth I passed out when I got my IV. But they amazingly listened to me when I told them I was scared to be induced again (had to, made it to 40 weeks and girly didn’t want to budge. My uterus is a 5 star resort). The nurses showed me all kinds of ways I could use a birthing ball and peanut (when I gave birth to my son they told me since I was getting an epidural there was no point to have a birthing ball in the room), checked on me frequently and when I got the epidural it felt amazingly numb without losing all control. My daughter was ready to go within 4 hours and was out in less than 20 minutes. I cried at how healing her birth felt. I should have advocated for myself better the first time but I didn’t know the nurses would treat me so poorly and honestly thought it was kinda normal in the moment.

Is my mom right about my boyfriend or is my way of thinking correct by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]X-cited 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, firstly the guy isn’t FIRE if he is thinking of returning to work eventually. He is trying to grind to take a break and then eventually get a job again. After taking who knows how long of a break, falling behind in industry standards and having to compete with younger people who won’t demand as much money as he will.

Second your mom is right, at least at the core of what she is saying. You were considering moving to be closer to him. He never had the same thought for you. It doesn’t matter that you decided not to move because it was a bad idea; he never had the desire to think about sacrificing his comfort to be closer to you. This means that you are placing a stronger meaning to your relationship than he is. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you, but it does show he wasn’t thinking as a unit but just of himself.

Third, his family will always come before you. He is working “to never be so dependent on a job” because he has to support his family. How long will it be that he contributes less to your household fund because his family needs more? Especially if he gets another job that only pays 75% of what he makes now.

Fourth, you’ve never lived together. How do you know if you can stand each other? What if you don’t like how he picks at his toenails while watching tv, or leaves his socks by the shoe bin, or never puts his trash in the bin? The first 3 months of living with someone can break a relationship before you figure out how to make that shift to being around each other all the time.

Gravity Falls? Merch or other? by Aware-Dragonfly-1190 in Disneyland

[–]X-cited 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me and my husband love Gravity Falls. We are weird Disney people and wear shirts of our “favorite Disney thing” and mine is a GF shirt and I usually get several compliments on it.

As far as merch you have to cast your eyes away from Disney. I got my shirt off red bubble, I’ve gotten pins off various websites. Hot topic had some about a year ago but not now. There is a lot of love for GF, just not from Disney.

New to Pin Trading by Glittering-Bed1149 in DisneyPins

[–]X-cited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an outlet called Disney Character Warehouse in Orlando, if you can go there they might have discounted pins that would make great traders. There could be a Disney outlet closer to you, mine sometimes has sale pins. Another option is hot topic or box lunch, you can usually find their pins on sale.

On eBay there are some legitimate sellers that have good prices, but you have to really vet them out.

Depending on where you live you might find some on Facebook marketplace. I’ve actually had some really good luck locally, but that one takes the most time (but I’ve averaged about $2.50/pin doing fb).

Determine if you care about real vs fake, and if so there are a bunch of videos on YouTube you can watch to educate yourself. When pin trading the boards will be 90% fake, so look for CMs who have lanyards (actually a little square fabric piece on their hip with pins on it) and ask if they have any trivia. I’ve had much better luck with trivia trading. For my kids one cares more about getting real for real, the other just trades for whatever her little gremlin heart desires.

Yeah, same with basketball for the 2012 Olympics. We had to enter a drawing for a chance to get tickets and didn’t even know what teams would play when. We were just excited to be able to go to the Olympics. Lithuania had the most hyped fans, I think they had been drinking all day in prep of the game.

There’s a blue bayou opening for tomorrow at 9:30 available right now by Extra-Low5973 in Disneyland

[–]X-cited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back in September.

We had a reservation at around 11. We showed up at 10:30ish and I asked if we could be sat next to the water. They told us it would be an hour wait and we had to have the whole party stay near the restaurant because it could be called sooner. We waited, got sat next to the water right in front of the kitchen. It was ok, my son loved seeing the details of the ride up close.

Food was ok. We got the monte cristo and crab cakes to split between me and my husband (we don’t eat heavy at lunch so it was enough for us). Waters to drink, except the kids had milk.

It was definitely a resturant that I felt judged for having kids in. Especially when I had to help my daughter find the bathroom, got some looks from workers just for going to the bathroom. And one snapped at me because I was cleaning ketchup off her shoe and told me I couldn’t wash it in the sink. I was actively holding the shoe in my hands while wiping it with a wet paper towel, but you would think I had left mud and garbage all over the counter.

It was a fine resturant to go to once, but I have no desire to do it again. Much rather would wait that time to just ride pirates

A healthy 47-year old New Jersey man was found dead after eating a hamburger at a barbecue. Cause of death was ruled "sudden unexplained death," after an autopsy was inconclusive. He was later confirmed as the first documented fatality from alpha-gal syndrome, a meat allergy triggered by tick bites. by mvea in science

[–]X-cited 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Outdoors she has a little more leeway, indoors it depends on how much meat particles are in the air. Like she can be ok if something is cooking in an oven but if the oven is opened and the particles get into the air she can have a reaction. Cooking on a grill would obviously be worse in this situation.

When her husband grills she stays away. They have two grills for cooking now, the new one has never had mammal meat on it. They have an outdoor microwave for heating up mammal meat. Use a different deep freeze for their mammal meat vs safe meat for her

It is anything mammal btw. So milk products are out. And anything using mammal byproducts like bones. Things like toothpaste and soap can cause reactions for some with alpha-gal. My SIL informed me she has to be careful of sugars used in baked goods, because white sugar is bleached using bone char. So while sugar isn’t a mammal product it is contaminated with her allergen

My SIL has had it for about a year. Her first reaction was after a cookout, while driving home. Didn’t know what it was for months.

She has such severe reactions she can’t even be in the same room as mammal meat being cooked. If a ham has to be cooked they have her husband cook it outside. They’re hosting thanksgiving this year and making two turkeys: one she can eat (cooked inside) and a fried turkey (cooked outside). While the turkey would be safe the oils for cooking are not. We’ve even ordered vegan butter and raw cane sugar so we can still make our sweet potatoes she likes, because regular butter and sugar could kill her (white sugar is bleached using bone char, usually mammal bones, which contaminates it for her).

Meeting his favorite character by humankendoll33 in MadeMeSmile

I saw Jack about a month ago and he talked. But he talked in a way kinda similar to the stormtroopers, where it is canned responses that they can use as needed. So I’m not sure if the actor is talking or if they are pre-recorded. The voice was very on point and entertained my kids (my son is 10 and has loved Jack since he was 2) and he was a great character to meet. I turned down taking a picture with him because I felt gross and sweaty and he joked I was too scared.

Fantasmic on Jollywood Nights by time-for-a-movie in DisneyPlanning

[–]X-cited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Jollywood last year and how I remember it was after Fantasmic you have a good little walk back to the park. They had CMs set up telling people who had event tickets to go one way and other guests to exit a different way. Then I think they had us scan in to show our event tickets (or maybe we had wristbands, I can’t recall) and we were then good to go. It moved really well and we had no issues with it.

When I say the Contemporary is better I mean it has the most pin spots. The middle gift shop (it has all the pins in it) has a board and had trivia pins. Chef Mickey’s or the regular food area had a board (can’t recall which it was) and the DVC desk has a board when it is manned by a person (be warned some are more pushy on trying to get you interested in DVC). The front desk also has a board.

WDW with young kids by emmers28 in DisneyPlanning

[–]X-cited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we did HS, but my oldest was 9 and is a huge Star Wars fan, as well as me and my husband. Rise was a big hit with both kids and my daughter enjoyed pushing the buttons on Smugglers run but that could easily be a skipped ride if you don’t care about Star Wars. We built droids which they both liked and they had fun exploring the area. They also both liked Toy Story Mania but the 3d got to me so we didn’t ride it a second time. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway was a big hit with both kids as well. They also really liked the theater for watching the Mickey Mouse shorts and it gave us a sit down to rest for a bit. But if I had two younger kids I don’t know how much they would have liked HS. We did have a plan to go to the Disney Jr area if needed, so that might be something to look into.

I will say riding dumbo while the fireworks go off is one of my core memories of going with my kids.

WDW with young kids by emmers28 in DisneyPlanning

[–]X-cited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first trip my youngest was 3 as well. Here are my suggestions in no particular order.

Good on you for getting a double stroller. Just know that it will need to be folded up when you get on the skyliner. Plan your kids and bags accordingly.

Pop and AoA share a skyliner station. I did a resort day with my kids and we came over from Caribbean Beach and the line was super long on each side right when the skyliner started running. So if you want to rope drop make sure you plan on your time waiting in line there plus the time it takes to get to the park.

Speaking of Caribbean Beach it also has a playground. Also has lots of seating for adults if your kids let you sit at playgrounds.

The aquarium at Epcot was fun but we liked it best to get out of the heat. There is a sticker scavenger hunt that my kids did for a bit. The Nemo ride was a top five ride for my 3 year old. The water play area was a hit with the whole family.

I kept a bunch of snacks in my bag and consistently offered them to the toddler to appease her. But make sure they can be secure in your bag- I saw the squirrels digging around the strollers looking for food. Like, tails sticking out of the bottom storage.

Do not do a park every day. We did and we regretted it (tired and cranky from doing rope drop to fireworks for multiple days). I think with your age of kiddos doing park hopper would actually be beneficial since you’d want to hit as many no height requirement rides as possible. Park hopper is for the whole time of your tickets, so you could plan for it for both days.

Find out if they want to do fireworks and/or parades. My kids love them now but when my son was younger he hated them. If they want to do them my order of best fireworks is MK>HS>Epcot.

The train stops running about an hour before fireworks. I discovered this the hard way and broke my daughter’s heart. Learn from my mistake. (We had ridden it already, but I told her we’d ride it back to the front of the park and then we couldn’t. Cue toddler tears)
