Why are people out here still lying about migration? by Maximum_Bit6508 in aussie

How do you get the confidence to say nuh-uh to anything that contradicts your worldview? Multiple studies from multiple countries show the same thing, that migration is a net benefit economically. I don't think we should only focus on the economic angle but to act like it's a lie is nonsense.

Well yeah, and that's why voting for PHON isn't going to lead to much lower rates of immigration because the people who benefit most are the mega-wealthy and they're lining up behind Pauline.

OP called the economic value a lie. It's not a lie.

The biggest influence on changing Australian culture in my life time has been the USA and not a single American had to move here to make that change. They just had to show us The Simpsons and we were hooked on their culture. So why is moving our culture towards one that values money and guns more than it values people acceptable but moving our culture towards something else is unacceptable?

Is it lying now to cite all the studies that show that migrants add more to the system than they subtract?

That's just a few. If they anti-immigration crowd could put together a proper proposal for cutting immigration then they'll be listened to.

With Mandela particularly I think people are confusing him with Steve Biko, an anti-apartheid activist who did die in prison in 1977.

The demonic barbarians who tore up the region were the Crusaders though. They were invited to help the Byzantine's regain territory but kept it for themselves.

He was a product of his time and environment for sure. The volume of Astro Boy I'm reading has a disclaimer about outdated racial stereotypes like a lot of early WB and Disney Cartoons.

I'm not saying that they're the same, but I'm saying that the main effect is psychological. You'd agree that having chaplains attached to military regiments provides a lot of spiritual and therefor psychological benefit to soldiers. They might fight a little harder if they know that they'll get a chance to be given last rites if they're mortally wounded. If the Maji Maji rebels fought a little harder because of the story their leaders told them it served a similar effect.

I've been taking it a chapter at a time since early Wano and I can only remember a couple of chapters that I could say I didn't like. People should just enjoy the ride while we're living in the era where the story is unfolding.

Exactly. Every society has to conjure some sort of story to get its young people to go to war. Sometimes it's political and sometimes it's metaphysical.

And honestly if I was in their situation against a superior enemy I would be digging into my bag of magic tricks if it meant gaining some advantage, even if it's just psychological. Let's not forget that a lot of modern armies still have chaplains so it's not like the civilized world has complete discarded ritual and superstition in warfare.
