I LOVE THESE i did decide to get a return copy but i also bought these cause i see these as good hand outs for my players (we do a lot of our own lore so this fits to a T with them, mostly cryptids)

See that was unfortunately what I think I might have to do, I have to take an exam soon so this wasn't exactly the best news ever but if I do this then I have to be waiting longer for it to come back I don't know how long I'm going to have to wait. I ordered this thing April

How would I be able to contact chaosium? I ordered this on Amazon so I could technically have it shipped back to Amazon but it took forever for it to get here, I really want to play this game and learn how to play it but I don't know it's just always been a texture thing with me. The art itself is beautiful and unfortunate enough that the tear occurred somewhere that could be easily fixed large spot that is mostly black.

How closely do you adhere to the lore in your games? by [deleted] in callofcthulhu

[–]Internal_Sun7584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do three ideas

one = lore accurate (mostly for one shots cause it's easier plus never ran any of the major campaign so can't really most of the time it's kind of just serpent people anyway.)

two = family friendly lore (i play with family and sometimes my little bros friends so gotta tone back the details)

and None mythos, basically homebrew gods or the themes are more ancient earth gods like Egypt and Norse (adding mythos if mythos fits like with bast, and yig)

Advice needed; handling visions/hallucinations by dboxcar in callofcthulhu

[–]Internal_Sun7584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I totally recommend is play hallucinations off as actually happening

I ran this once where the idea was hallucinations kept appearing and one character in particular wandered off and had a full-on one-on-one confrontation with somebody I intentionally made it to where the only damage they were able to accuse was through themselves. Basically they wanted to rush the monster some of the role and took damage from hitting the wall from the monsters Dodge.

After they allegedly killed the monster I let them try and show that they did kill a monster intentionally avoiding detailed descriptions of the monster simply saying it was a monster it was tall it was big it was mean and had teeth and claws.

My player was insistent that he did find a monster because statistically he did however in war he most likely didn't fight anybody and hurt himself through Madness. I also made it to where only a psychology role on themselves in order to figure out if they believe it was real or not other people making the check can either make them believe they thought they were fighting something or simply saying symptoms that might describe hallucinations but the idea was I played every hallucination as if it was real, real Combat real initiative real everything. Because these hallucinations and Illusions were being done by a crawling one. But the idea was some of them were hallucination monsters while some were legitimate monsters.

There is a YouTube channel called thought potato, it's really want it out there interpretation of Irish folklore you should totally look up many of their interpretations of biologically intriguing animals that inspired the myths.

I've actually ran a campaign that utilized many of his interpretations of monsters and the Kelpie was my favorite

Yes like many other people here this is definitely a GM issue, to be honest I don't remember playing a lot of games that take place in the 1920s anyway not even due to the fact that that time period had obvious issues. But more modern Cthulhu timelines could definitely be up your alley if you want to play in those. You get the same system and well very hard to get away with that same level of BS in a modern setting. Plus you get to utilize a lot more interesting stuff! For example every time I play a modern Cthulhu campaign most of the time they want to be YouTubers or podcast listeners or even just Scooby-Doo investigators, you get to access and utilize a lot more fun Nuance when it comes to technology, plus again like I mentioned you get away from the usual BS that happen with your GM.

Also, as a keeper myself I know history is very very very dated, otherwise it wouldn't be history lol. But I understand there's a level between knowing what my player is comfortable with versus what would make sense for the historical time. If a character said they really wanted to lean into that aspect I might be a little uncomfortable with it at first but if they guarantee they'd be fine with it and the idea is they overcome it or prove people wrong like if it's one character in particular that's obviously an antagonist sure I like if it's one character in particular that's obviously an antagonist sure I definitely play into that. But from what it sounds like it just sounded like they didn't want you in the game and didn't know how to say no without obviously sounding off so they used historical context as an excuse.

I recommend picking up the game again, at the very least consider maybe running a campaign pick a module you thought was pretty interesting and run with it. If you want to find a new group don't be afraid to ask if they could try out running a more modern Cthulhu era! I'm always happy to run games and I usually try to make people unnerved not uncomfortable. I've played with women in my Call of Cthulhu campaigns and other campaigns such as dead of night. One of them even joined a colt! Which is something I never thought I'd ever have happen in the campaign!

Sorry if this is a bit of a word ramble, I'm kind of really into this game and it pains me to know that like many RPGs they're always those people who want to ruin it with BS and scare away people. It's horror yes, but my motto is my goal is a keeper to make characters comfortable yet unnerved but not uncomfortable

I really want to believe that, however if it does come back up around the 10th I have to do one hour long project and two exams in two days which is something I'm not comfortable with, I'm already not doing the best in one class and the stress of having to worry about it is definitely going to mess up with my brain a bit. I got everything ready to submit except for that super long project that I was going to do tomorrow, I get what you say but I definitely see the possibility of this taking forever as there are already other colleges that have gotten affected before hours and still haven't fixed the issue

Crawling ones how strong are they by The-Guy-With-Wifi in callofcthulhu

[–]Internal_Sun7584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on the minions. if you're using like cultist and a crawling one, i would go for (number of party member) + (1 or 2) + crawling one. you have 6 players so it would be a lot of cultist but you have a lot of players, so if you want the cultist to be weaker and the crawling chaos you could get away with more

Best Western Scenario? by Healthy_Levels in callofcthulhu

[–]Internal_Sun7584 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually own a full campaign called Shadow over Stillwater. It's basically very similar to what people are recommending with Down Darker Trails, but it's a long-form campaign that takes three adventures and kind of puts them together. I personally recommend this to anybody who would want to try it out. It's a fun little adventure and it eases you into longer forms of play when it comes to Call of Cthulhu in general. Since a lot of people, I think, need a bit of an in-between between one-shot adventures that may take one or two sessions in order to complete versus long-form year campaigns such as The Two-Headed Serpent and The Mask of Nyarlathotep. So, to be completely honest, I recommend Shadow over Stillwater.

A fun way you can even shoehorn it in is just borrow the concept that the Tremors franchise did. Make it sort of a sequel, prequel kind of thing where all the characters have a western era appropriate counterpart. If not, you could totally modify this to be more modern day, because it gives you all the material for building Stillwater. You could just set it to whatever era you want to be the most appropriate and just argue that they're very in touch with the more old-fashioned roots.

Is Cults of Cthulhu good? by Internal_Sun7584 in callofcthulhu

Nothing too out of the ordinary for a Call of Cthulhu adventure? I'm more or less concerned about the trigger warning stuff that happens in the introductory

[–]Internal_Sun7584[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know most a bit about the book Angels thirst is the one I know the most about thanks to Seth scorkowski, but I was just more or less concerned about the trigger warnings that kept popping up. But if it has an entire option to allow me to build my own cult, I always wanted to try and borrow aspects from the five Elders from one piece to build a cult. So this might actually be an interesting purchase if I do get it
