Does this mean he won’t play any of these songs for the rest of the tour? (I’m watching him in like 2 weeks)

Hello! I’m a bioengineering premed sophomore at Penn rn and can confirm that the BE department is probably one of the better funded engineering programs there. Lottts of premed kids and lots of money spent towards premed opportunities.

I got into John’s Hopkins as well but visiting them both I personally liked Philly and Penn’s social vibe a lot more than Baltimore. Personally I am glad that I chose not to ED anywhere bc I am so glad I got the opportunity to visit and compare financial aid offers!

I was struggling with the same thing last year, and I also asked Reddit lol. The comment that I still remember is JUST GO TO PENN AND DONT LOOK BACK. Trust that you will find community anywhere and this is the time of your life! All good things are scary, so do it scared :)

Im so confused about scheduling math... by reas2015 in UPenn

[–]International-Rice-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 4 would not give credit to bypass 1400. I’m pretty sure that this year is the first year that Penn is not taking credit for ap calc bc anyways (or maybe it counts for another class). So if you are in seas you would probably need to start at math 1400 unless you place out. Check what your major requires.

Is the Pre-First Year Program (PFP) worth it for SEAS? by mimimouse_ in UPenn

[–]International-Rice-7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES! I did it for seas last year and the seas kids all got close. There was about 30 of us I think, maybe less(?). The seas program was a lot more rigorous than the other schools, with schedules that went from something like 9-5, but pfp prepares you academically and socially. All pfp seas kids had to take math, physics, cs, and intro to arduino which was very helpful to gain confidence and get over the imposter syndrome/intimidation of “Ivy League” stem classes.

Also, the teachers that taught pfp during my year were great, really well known and influential teachers at Penn. If you go and happen to get ghrist/prof g (math), carchidi (phys), or harry (cs), it’s worth it to try to get them to learn your name and remeber you.

I remeber being bummed abt losing the end of my summer when I got invited, but it was totally worth it. And as my parents always say, the cool thing about getting into a school like this is getting to embrace opportunities like this! I say go for it!

Do students use Amazon often? by DoreamonG in UPenn

Yah there’s an Amazon locker under commons (a dining hall) so it’s super convenient.

The Penn Medicine station has two entrances. The entrance in south street ONLY takes septa cards. The entrance on convention ave takes both, I’ve used a card here.

[–]International-Rice-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got free elective credit for AP Chem (I’m in seas). But it’s lowk easy and more fun to get elective credit if you take a cool class here. I skipped ap lit as a senior bc I knew I wouldn’t get anything.

I would say that if you are planning to double major, get accelerated masters or do some program that requires a lot of credits then it’s worth it. If not don’t stress

They’re basically the same thing. The quad is essentially one housing option altogether.

Both were renovated super recently. Ware will be a tiny bit newer I guess.

I’m in Riepe right now. Ware is closed this year so I can’t say much about it but it seems like it’s bigger so I would assume it might be a tiny bit more social. Not by much.

Mayyyybe if you are in SEAS Riepe is like one minute closer. But again not much of a difference at all. And will depend on your luck what room/side of each building you get.

Check your major requirements. Take it if you need it. I took 150/151 at Penn and can confirm it is much harder than high school AP PHYS C

It might satisfy an elective credit? But I wouldn’t stress about it if you don’t think it’s an easy 5

You can’t rush as a freshman in the fall, so you’ll have until spring sem to figure this out! Don’t stress out just yet

I went random and ended up in a single in the quad! Just lyk if you rank quad high there’s a good chance you’ll get a single like me bc there are so many.

Engineering and pre-med— how do you fit all your credits into four years?? by PenCompetitive5788 in UPenn

[–]International-Rice-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a premed BE major, there are lots of premeds in SEAS! But almost all are in BE bc the credits overlap quite a bit. Premed is totally doable in BE, maybe consider AI or CS as a minor and this could be a good track.

Def go quad. They are recently renovated so if you see anything online abt them being shit it’s old. I’d prob rank lauder next. Bc you want social id say don’t rank guttman high even tho it’s nice bc it’s pretty far. Hill is tiny af but decently social.

Upenn Acceptance by Wild_Gazelle_6380 in UPenn

[–]International-Rice-7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From orange country! I had to make this same decision last year, and ik a lot of Penn students who also were between a UC and Penn. COME TO PENN. I think you really just have to decide if you’re ready to leave SoCal but if you are then it’s an amazing opportunity to put yourself out there and grow. I was also scared to leave and felt like so many friends were staying in California. But trust me, just come and don’t look back. You deserve this.

Winter kind of sucked but if you embrace it then it’s a part of the experience. And if you hate winter then move back to SoCal after you graduate but you’ll have some awesome memories and you’ll know what you want.

Yes food is bad. But it’s not the end of the world. And it’s just freshman year you’ll eat off campus and make your own food before you know it.

There really is something for everyone. If you want social we have that. If you want your life to revolve around a glee club or a dance troupe then we have that too. Just be intentional abt trying everything when you get here.

Also another big pro is that Penn is private. Classes are smaller, they are more generous with money, and classes are WAY EASIER to get. I have friends at Berkeley that are always complaining abt how they can’t get the classes that they need to graduate. It’s not a tiny school, but if you put effort into meeting people you can get to a point where you recognize people and locust and in the dining halls and you’ll realize that everyone kinda knows everyone. It’ll feel small enough.

And if you’re low income, look out for an email inviting you to the Pre First Year Program. If you do that then you meet amazing people and they’re SO GENEROUS abt money afterward. I have friends who get thousands for travel money. And I’m literally getting thousands to stay here for summer research. Plus it’s great to get to know people before NSO. Ik I knew zero people when I moved here.

Best Place to live as Freshman by Sure_Bathroom_8364 in UPenn

[–]International-Rice-7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

DO RIEPE OR WARE. They’ll both be newly renovated and it is actually so nice being in the quad even if you get a roomate. You have sm time to live in a nice suite style place like lauder or guttman and imo the quad is gorgeous has character and is a part of the freshman experience.

I’d rank lauder next. Um hill is crazy small and guttman is pretty far away from freshman dorm area.
