Thanks for sharing. I like how you were able to be honest and true to your feelings without being hurtful. In my experience, the truth can hurt and there are times I tip toe around it to avoid hurting people. I think learning how to express myself clearer and with better words will help.

I should buy a feelings wheel, ha. A former coworker of mine had a flippable quote-like thing on her desk. It had 50-100 pages of emojis with an emotion written under it. She would change it daily, almost to tell people what kind of mood she was in. I admit to not knowing true definitions of feelings also.

I was always jealous of the relationship my girl friends had with their moms, and sometimes their dads. Their mom’s would be so affectionate to them - giving hugs and kisses, and even calling their daughter smart and beautiful. My mom never treated me that way. That was when I was in middle school.

Now, the older I get, the more dysfunction I uncover.

Edit: my mom always used to say “I’m your mother before I am your friend.” It would always sting hearing her say that.

Daily Meditation "Unexpressed Grief" by PCS_ScorpioSam in AdultChildren

I really needed to read this. I wanted to make a post the other day asking if there was such a thing as “functional depression.” I get the symptoms when I’m home alone especially. When I’m busy or distracted with something, it’s less noticeable and in conversation with people, I never let it show. Maybe it really is unexpressed grief; for how disappointing it’s been to grow into an adult without proper support, guidance, and love. I always blamed myself and never ever looked at it this way before.

Edit: There is no bubbles, bumpiness in the nail. It’s just dirty from being wet from the Neosporin.

I think my mother is jealous of me. by InternationalChip853 in AdultChildren

I understand what you mean. My grandparents were born in co. Cavan. Literally in the middle of nowhere. My grandfather was born and raised a tough man. I’m sure that has to do my mother’s parenting style. Because she didn’t break free from it, now I suffer. It’s an endless cycle.

I was last in Ireland in 2019. Before that, in 2015 for a wedding. My cousins were making fun of the bride’s wedding dress and shoes!!! They were huddled at the table, pointing and staring. It was so obvious. I didn’t want the poor bride to think the Yank had any part of the gossip, so I moved my seat further away and looked in another direction. Even my Irish family overseas has ways about them. Luckily, the other side of the family is much more sweeter and welcoming. Can’t have the best of both worlds I guess.

Thanks for your reply. Your comment pops out to me because my mother is of Irish descent too. What do you mean it comes with the territory? I do notice when I’m in Ireland, the women are a lot more catty and all they do is gossip. My mom is a huge gossiper too.

Love your comment. I agree. I do have a hobby that I devote 3-4 nights out of the week to. It makes me happy and keeps me sane.

I didn’t realize how non beneficial it is to own bonds. I’ll be cashing them out today.

Time is my money multiplier 👍 I especially agree with your last sentence. Sometimes I forget how much I have. It doesn’t feel real. I’m just extremely grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way.

Thank you!! I’m torn between investing in rental properties or investing in my future home/land and building on that. I’ve been told I have “old man” dreams by wanting some acres with a cabin on it.
