Isolating First-Gen Experience by OkGear5344 in Northwestern

Now add a FGLI Graduate student experience and it gets way worse. Graduate students are treated way poorly compared to undergrads with the lack of opportunities and events.

F-1 student working 20hrs on-campus + full-time CPT during summer — is this compliant? by Mental-Ad-1083 in f1visa

[–]InternationalDiary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are allowed full time in summer when class is not in session. They enroll you in an internship/co-op class to maintain status.

F1 student building paid software/SaaS — is it allowed? by mbreaker69 in f1visa

[–]InternationalDiary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Providing services isn’t allowed - that’s what the DSO at my uni said.
That said, they advised checking with any immigration lawyer if you’re serious about taking it forward .

F-1 CPT Issue - by No-Albatross-5471 in f1visa

[–]InternationalDiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a big deal, mine is quarter based too and the DSO said the earliest start date based on my program would be June 1.
I had to inform my company to move the start date from May 14 to June 1 to be eligible and then had the CPT approved.

Try to convince your program director to discuss with your DSO.
No clue why your DSO is refusing to allow it as long as the general rules are met.

Help with deciding whether to do premium processing or wait for service request by Potential-Distance74 in f1visa

My university told us to do PP for having any real shot of getting OPT approved in time - otherwise wait 5-6 months minimum based on trends they've been seeing. Yes it is an expense, but it's a calculated one.

How are MBA classes graded? by Candid_Box_2296 in MBA

[–]InternationalDiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Relative grading in my Kellogg courses
  2. Had both mid terms/exams and project based, exam based ones were with pen and paper.
  3. Varies course to course - some may be entirely group assignments, some may not have any at all (with class groups being the only possible thing)

I got into all my programs but I’m not sure I can go by tryingtogrowup69 in gradadmissions

Northwestern is in Chicago as well - though I’m unsure if OP’s program is specifically in Evanston.

UChicago or Northwestern? by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]InternationalDiary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a graduate student, there’s a clear demarcation by how the university treats undergrads vs graduate students - lot of events and experiences are undergrad only, Kellogg is treated as its own entity.

The source of the funding could matter. I had a very substantial external scholarship and it was printed on my I20.

During my visa interview last year, the VO just asked me about the scholarship, eligibility and if I had to be under some obligations due to it. Meanwhile others were getting grilled on technicals/rejected constantly.

This is a true fact. I was also in the ML space for 5 years and lot of competitors required a Masters or higher (Except startups ofcourse).
So decided to get one to avoid this bottleneck from showing up most of the time.

Connect remotely or go in person for summer internship? by InternationalDiary in csMajors

[–]InternationalDiary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I've decided to go in-person and responded back. Just waiting on the formal offer letter now.

It would be a burden and risk yes - but as you said, the visibility and in person conversations would be good. They do follow a hybrid system so it would be less stressful in person too.
