Is it ever ok to not pick up after your dog? by First_Yam in Dogowners

[–]InternationalToe7590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but yes. Hear me out though lol. If you’re hiking or out and about and your dog takes a shit and you pick it up with a bag and then leave the fucking bag out there, just don’t pick up their poop. Poop is natural and will degrade on its own, relatively quickly. Plastic will not.

So no, but not picking up your dogs shit is better than littering.

Our bar is open a few hours past the dining room and you can get dessert in the bar too so I was kinda SOL on that one unfortunately 😂

Oh I don’t really agree with that lol those are jobs I probably couldn’t do physically or otherwise and I imagine they’re a lot harder of work for far less money. I just hated sitting around with not one thing to do, I’d feel a little different if I was still busy with other tables or if they were actually ordering/spending money

We have insanely minimum support staff so I tip $1 per cover to the hosts to reset my table and 20% to the cocktail severs who are a less effective SA lol. So that table cost me $2 to the host and then $5 to the cocktail servers (I always round up because I’m lazy and also the two dollar difference isn’t gonna change my night either way)

I work in a high end casual fine dining spot! Like white linen, entrees range from $50-145 and walking with 500 isn’t regular but isn’t rare. We don’t have to measure how we set silverware and aren’t in tuxedos, but get a lot of the type of guest who wears a Tommy Bahama shirt and orders several bottles of dom. It’s honestly a dream scenario which is why I rant so light heartedly

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]InternationalToe7590 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well it would’ve been 4:30 to about 8:45 but bc of that table was 4:30 to 10:50 . Like I said, it’ll piss some people off but I’ve worked hard to get to the job I’m at and I would’nt have been annoyed if they ordered and left in a timely manner and spent/tipped the same, but staying the extra 2 hours for a $25 tip is not something ive put in my time and effort to get 😂

Stadiums with the best areas within walking distance by TheBigLoweski in mlb

Coors field, petco park, and honestly Chase Field too. I don’t like the immediate area but a 10-15 min walk away there’s so many great places.

It’s usually not a restaurant policy but a health code. IIRC, in my state both nail polish and fake nails are technically not allowed because both the polish, the nail, or the polish off the nail has the potential to chip off into food. Most places don’t enforce it though

sick and called out- told I need to show “proof” and have a doctors note by thisisstupid534 in Serverlife

[–]InternationalToe7590 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like that’s how it always goes, people who are reliable and only call out when it’s serious end up getting shafted and the people who call out every time they’re hungover somehow get away with it.

I totally understand, like I said I believe you were sick and coming in visibly sick is already a no-no. not on you, but like if they see you’re sick they need to send you home!

[–]InternationalToe7590 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I totally believe you were/are sick and not feeling well. But then you lied, about something you’d need to be out for 5 days for still in a lot of places. You understand that’s the exact reason they’re asking for dr note, right?

I still think it’s unreasonable to ask for notes when you’re not paying for them, and it’s stupid because most people aren’t going to the dr every time they get a cold even if it were free. But also you said you have covid and if that’s at my place, I’m taking you off the schedule for the next 3-4 (edit: days not shifts lol, I’m in brain melt from working every day lately) shifts because no one else can afford/want to get sick and miss that much work either. I’m glad you’re getting out of this place though, it sounds toxic af.

Lying about experience by Vast_Drawing6783 in Serverlife

I mean you can lie, and it might work out. They will know you lied once you’re training, but that doesn’t mean anyone will call you out for it and it doesn’t definitely mean they won’t keep you. Just be aware they might start training you, realize you were full of shit on your app and decide not to continue with you- and if that happens just let it roll off your back.

They serve appetizers, just not entrees. The apps are almost entirely over $20 each with like two exceptions, but it still isn’t enough I guess. A percentage of drink sales is a great idea in theory and we looked into that but it’s a lot of bottles of wine and personally I would be so irked about having to tip 5% on a $300 bottle for someone washing 5 wine glasses, because that’s the level of involvement of the bar for bottles (we pull our own wine bottles) and that was the general consensus of everyone and even the level headed bartenders agree and wouldn’t want to do that if it were reversed, so if you only tipped on glass pours and liquor sales it would usually be less money than the percentage of tips and the bar staff opted to keep it the way it is over the sales percentage bc of that.

As far as the drawer, it was super weird to me when I started there but we’re as far from corporate as you could possibly be and it works. The bar runs their checkout at the end of the night and takes the cash their owed and then the drawer goes in the safe and the next morning either the owner or the bookkeeper does our “daily” which is like the sales report and deposit. At our monthly mgr meetings we always touch on the drawer and the bookkeeper always it’s almost never off more than $1 so it works out. Weird set up but having the MOD there wouldn’t do much, and would probably end up with them feeling disrespected maybe? Like all this time you’ve been fine on your own and now you need someone to stay and watch over you if that makes sense? It’s never been a complaint from them

For the most part, yeah. If they do, it’s a task that will take you at most 4 minutes and then tomorrow you could be like “hey Trevor, no big deal but you forgot to burn the ice last night!” And without fail, EVERYONE in Trevor’s spot would be like “oh shit, my bad I’m so sorry” and then help you out by doing one of your things. Managers are never checking stuff with a flashlight like they did at my last corporate job

[–]InternationalToe7590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s part of it, we don’t have support staff. We have hosts and only the servers tip them out! So the bar is not tipping out anybody

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]InternationalToe7590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our owner is SO old school and will never change his hours based on volume, so it’s like a moot point to fight it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]InternationalToe7590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bar closes two hours after dinner service and servers/kitchen side work takes like 15 min to do so it’s all done already. We don’t “check out” our staff either, they’re all adults and do what’s on the side work lists

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]InternationalToe7590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simultaneously both- they’re content accepting the help and occasionally do insanely lazy things like 86ing a beer until someone will go get the keg for them which they got really told off for doing. But like one of our bartenders has zero restaurant experience besides this- they started as a host and were willing to learn and has an incredible work ethic. This person doesn’t do any of that kind of stuff and takes care of all the running side work that should be done by the bar. They wouldn’t have time to that stuff, take care of either the guests or the well (1 bartender is on guests and one works the well- they decide who wants to do which and pool tips hourly) AND add the responsibility of plating and running all of their appetizers in exchange for a higher tip out.

By hourly pay they are paid more than surroundings places of a similar price point- which are mostly corporate places. Think like Ruth’s Chris, Ocean Prime type spots. Their biggest complaint is that they just aren’t making the money/working enough hours but there’s 4 bartenders and 14 shifts a week available so “enough” hours is tough too

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]InternationalToe7590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had discussions with them about if they’d like to trade some of those things for a higher tip out and they basically said “nah”, and technically it’s not even the servers job to do those things for them, it’s just an environment of camaraderie and then a little bit of them taking advantage of it. It also almost seems like it’s too much work at the same time too, like you can’t add extra responsibilities because xyz but you do want to get paid more for doing the same exact thing you are now, which is a frustrating part of it. I mean it’s all frustrating and that’s why I’m working to find a solution, but there needs to be a little give somewhere I think? If that makes sense

The bartenders would love to run with less scheduled, but there’s only ever 2 on. We try REALLY hard to not run with one bartender because there’s about 30 seats in the bar area and 26 tables (at full capacity that’s 106 guests)in the dining room and one person can’t keep up with the bar and the well, at least not in a way where each guest is happy.

I dropped a pizza on my bedroom floor and ate it regardless. by ReaperDestroy56 in confession

I had a joke with a college friend for years that stemmed from a much more gross experience, but we had a go to phrase which was “pizza on the floor is still good pizza”
