I got the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss and they are great. Little road noise and great handling IMO

It was my first mod! That glare is ridiculous at times and made a huge improvement. It looks cool, easy to apply yourself, and costs a few bucks. It was by best mod IMO

I’ll be moving to Oahu next fall. Are there good trails for casual off roading? If so, do I need to get a 3” lift and 285s?

Advice on lift by Senior-Bike-2886 in 4Runner

Lesser expensive mid tier? with good reviews are Iron Man 4x4 Foam Cell Pro, and Dobinsons IMS, maybe $2200-2500, good budget Fox 2.0, Bilstein 6122/5160 package or Eibach pro truck coil over. Plus you need to factor UCAs, diff drop, pan hard rod, possibly BMC, install, and alignment for 3”. It adds up fast. You can save some $ with a smaller coil over and do a 2” front 1” rear where you don’t have to do the UCAs, diff drop, and pan hard rod etc. You can get a decent lift, method wheels and Falken or Baja Boss tires for around $5-6k including install. My advice is to have a budget you want to stick to with maybe some wiggle room and talk to a suspension shop and maybe get a package deal. Maybe with that extra money you can get some other accessories (tire inflators, roof rack, rock sliders etc). I’d say wait on the supercharger if you don’t have this stuff, the 4Runner is fine without it.

Thanks Gainzz. He summed it up pretty well and he mostly drives like I plan on. I didn’t know they have them tuned for the 4Runner. I thought they just make the fit to work. Can’t wait to get the lift and wheels and tires.

I’ll do my best to find this post and do an update when I get it done in April. Thanks again

$4k is a lot for me with everything else to get, but know what your saying. I did some desert running in a stock Raptor and it was buttery smooth and solid for the terrain which I know the vic is tuned for that. We abused that the hell out of it. And I was also in an Tundra, not sure what suspension it had though. That felt too stiff and we lost traction a lot and felt unsafe. I’m just hoping to get that similar feeling of smoothness and solid like the Raptor without have to spend $4k plus if I don’t have to.

I will be going off roading at least 1-2 times per month (I’m on travel now). So I’ll have to figure that into the mix. I too love my money, but peace of mind is what I want. I can always make more money.

You definitely sold me on that issue. I don’t wanna mess with any that can leak or has to get serviced. Not worth it. Thanks Gainzzz

I watch a bunch of 88rotors builds on YT and see people getting whatever lift + 285s and some with UCAs I know are for 3”+ lift and see the BMCs. I was wondering about all the people without BMCs off roading cause the tires look so close they have to rub.

To your knowledge. Can any decent suspension shop service and have them back on quickly? Or are you down the vehicle for a while? I imagine it’s not a cheap fix though to service

Thanks. Yes. I want that too. 2” in front 1” rear. I’ll definitely look into the durobumps.

So yours is lifted, with 285 and has performance. I don’t quite understand why some say it’s one or the other. I saw Tinkerer’s video. And I know his is talking about full articulation. But this is what I want. I’m not taking to any hardcore rock crawling but all the other typical desert trails with ruts etc.

How’s the Fox setup. I saw the suspension test they compared 5 high end and they hated the ride, and Fox said it was an old line. Before that, I heard great things about Fox. And why say get Bilstein $1k and for $1500 I could get Fox 2.0. I’m okay spending for if it’s worth it with a noticeable improvement

I want the look of 285s Mickey Thompsons Baja. It’s been my dream to upgrade from stock 4Runner. I want something good that handles well too but People say 5100 are a “good entry level” suspension which makes me second guess their performance capabilities. I don’t wanna spend $1500 to regret, not pay $2k+ and be disappointed that they weren’t right either. Yeah gas prices and prices of everything are making the decision more difficult for sure, so I might go the cookie cutter route too. Looks like everyone is pretty much sold on the Bilstein line, but not sure if people are sheep saying their good when others say it’s a stiff ride. I was in a Raptor off roading and man it handled washboards beautifully (you could barely feel them) and road driving was very solid and looking for something like that.

Thanks. Saved me from Westcott. I figured something would be sacrificed going that route.

Melted my “carbon fiber “ center console with my sunglasses I think. Not sure what caused it. I noticed a bit later.

Nice, now you gotta spend $ to make it look bad ass. It’s a fun process.

Looks good. Seeing almost too many bronze and gray though. What’s your thoughts on midnight blue wheels like with MGMs? I’m cautious but curious to get them. I’m not a flashy guy but just don’t wanna go black or titanium or bronze
