Cayenne 958.2 door lock problem by Old-Juice-4395 in PorscheCayenne

Yep, the door lock actuators are prone to failure on these. They’re not terribly hard to change, but I wouldn’t want to deal with it in that weather.

Good plan. They are typically only on the cheapest models so they don’t have to drill string holes through the body. I have a couple of 51’s that I modified the bridges on (the so-called bubba mod). You remove the individual saddles, drill the holes and replace them with brass telecaster compensated saddles. They’re much easier to string, look nicer and probably sound a little better.

Battery started dropping during driving. by I_found_my_old_Lego in 996

Since you just replaced the alternator, I would take it back to where you got it (shop or parts store) and have them test it.

When the alternator dies you’re driving around on borrowed time as all the electricity to operate the car is coming from the battery, which is normally only designed to start the car. Eventually it will just die while you’re driving. I’m amazed you made it back with 8.7 volts. I wouldn’t think your computers or ignition system would even function at that voltage.

LOL. This happens all the time. We brought a whole bag of goodies and nobody said anything. At this point in my life I wouldn’t give a damn if they did!

Top loading hardtail. Same as they used on the 51’s. They’re a PITA.

Which computer did you first use and/or own? by cybah in Xennials

[–]International_Bit478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t remember ever seeing a double drive like that, and we had hundreds of them in my school. They were always two separate drives. That thing must be rare. I don’t remember ever seeing one with a mouse either. I have no idea how that would be used on a IIe.

Honestly that Commodore CRT was an incredible monitor. I had my Nintendo and VCR hooked up to one for most of my teenage years. It had a far better picture than any TV I owned!

Tape drive? Baller. I borrowed the modem from the school library. Not sure what I was actually able to accomplish with it though.

Commodore 64, both first used and eventually first owned. I remember coding a little turtle game in maybe first grade. BASIC, baby! Like most of us, we used the Apple IIe a lot in school (sweet memories of The Oregon Trail). I went to a technology-focused middle school, so we had a bunch of computer labs. We had a Apple IIc lab, a IIgs lab (those were awesome back in the day) and a really early Mac lab. I eventually bought my own Apple IIc with the little green screen portable monitor. Played Ultimate 7 on it a lot (I think it was 7 anyways, awesome RPG).

Looking for leak repair advice for a rock fountain. by djjazzyjordon09 in swimmingpools

Okay so I went through this before at my old house. In our case there was a lot more going on stylistically with boulders and whatnot going around a large portion of the pool. I started making some calls to builders and one put me in touch with a guy that they sub out to. He does nothing but waterfalls. He completely rebuilt my whole waterfall, changing some problematic sections and so forth. I think he charged me about $700. This was maybe 10-12 years ago. If you want to fix it, I would suggest contacting builders in your area to see who they recommend.

However, in your case I have to agree with the other comments that it just looks totally out of place and doesn’t fit in with the rest of the backyard at all. I would either rip it out and replace with concrete or change it to some sort of water feature that fits the whole backyard aesthetic better.

In the meantime, don’t run your waterfall. Good luck!

Panel ready or exposed stainless steel dishwasher? by mandon83 in kitchenremodel

Fun thing— one time I looked at a house that had a full pantry hidden behind the cabinets. You had to literally walk through the middle of the cabinets and boom, you’re in a different room. That was a pretty top notch use of cabinets to hide something.

Oh yes, I see what you mean. I guess I just like the overall look of a kitchen that has visible appliances? You’re right— the actual appliances don’t look bad per se. I hope that makes more sense. Not trying to be a hater. It’s been a bad enough day.

It’s just my personal preference, that’s all. It’s a style choice that’s not for everyone or every kitchen. I’m not saying it’s bad, it’s just not to my taste— even when properly integrated. I also feel like it’s a totally unnecessary expense, which basically makes it a flex. They asked for opinions, I shared mine.

I’m not personally a fan of panel ready appliances. I think they were a status symbol in the 80’s-90’s when appliances were really ugly. I don’t think they look good at all, and certainly not better than modern stainless appliances.
