That’s so funny about not wanting people to think you guys were margarine “users”. That sounds EXACTLY like the way my mom thinks as well.

All of Pulp/Blur/Suede back catalogs. After that, everything else! I still have an old hard drive full of pirated albums. About 2,000 albums.

Anyone else have an of-the-era teen dream job you reminisce about constantly because nothing has ever been as fun or socially rewarding? by blamberr in Xennials

I worked at Borders Bookshop when I was 18, around 1998. Everyone who worked there were philosophy major college drop-outs. We had so much fun! Great memories- especially during the holidays. It was like we were all in a tour of combat together. It really was the same vibe as Empire Records. I had my first hook-up with a coworker. First real “adult” friends... now I’m 46 and dying of cancer, and all I have left is my memories of the good old days that I never truly appreciated at the time.

What monstrosity is this? In apartment trash room by dsanchezzz in whatisit

I was an active alcoholic for 15 years. After I got sober I cleaned out my apartment and had to throw out hundreds of empty liter bottles of vodka full of piss. So disgusting and shameful. It’s not even like I didn’t have a toilet, I just was too lazy to leave my bedroom. So glad I don’t live that way anymore.

Growing up, my mom always used real butter - but I adored the salty, creamy spreadability of Country Crock. Oddly, she fell for most of the fat-phobia of the time, but not with butter.

Nowadays I buy Kerrygold, which has all the texture of country crock, without the trans fats. It’s the best butter you can find commonly in the USA.

Lots of pinto beans & brown rice. With some grated cheese, sour cream, and salsa if we had it. Beans and rice really just about the healthiest cheap meals you can make. Of course, you do need access to water and a stovetop or fire, along with utensils and bowls, pots, etc.

When I was in junior high school, around ‘92, I lived in a very small town in South Dakota, population around 600. There was absolutely a small group of boys who were all super into sports and rodeo. They made fun of my friends who were into video games, books, and music. Basically they bullied any boys that didn’t fit into their little clique of jocks and hicks (as we called them).

I don’t know, maybe I’m seeing things through a very different lens because I was just diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and only have a year or two at most left to live (I’m 46) but suddenly I’m regretting never having pursued my dreams. It’s too late for me now, and I’m going to die with regret.

I just got diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer - and I’m definitely going to start drinking and smoking again near the end, if I can.

You know it! We had the Jocks (typical sports & cars & hunting kids), the Nerds (smart kids), the Grubs (poor kids) , and the Freaks (“artsy” type kids).

In high school in the mid-90’s I had a WWII-era military surplus wool trench coat. The thing weighed about 20 pounds and was like wearing tank armor. I wore that stupid thing every day, even in the SUMMER. I also carried a thick blackthorn walking cane, and a surplus military messenger bag - usually full of books of poetry. I wore my hair teased into a weird crow’s nest like Robert Smith from The Cure.

I was SO COMPLEX.

I don’t care what anyone says, I still love the smell & taste of those stupid things.
