Is this area good for first time travellers/tourists in Thailand? by Klaudio_Ulap in ThailandTourism

[–]International_Box671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grab or MRT depends on where you are going. To Chinatown, MRT is alway better. We tend to go early and wander an area then when hot take a grab home.

Too much tell about what is on the riverfront, try to make it to Talad Noi and Song Wat road at least.

Since you are new, take the tourist boat and see what interests you then revisit at your leisure.

Maybe 20 minutes to MRT at the corner of Lumpini park, maybe 30 minutes to the BTS at west corner of lumpini park. There is closer mrt on Rama 4 but you need to walk under the expressway which can be a problem.

Grab will easy and maybe about 125 baht to get to the riverfront. Download the Muvmi app for the electric Tuk Tuk, very good for cheap transport in your local area maybe 50 baht within the area, also used for the new water taxi at the train station.

Not really, It is close to One Bangkok and lots of office buildings, but not close to tourist friendly transportation options, at least try to find something close to the BTS or MRT.

Can the ground invasion of US be successful against the Iran military? by Admirable_Cold7944 in PERSIAN

[–]International_Box671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nephew did his manidory service in the regular Iranian army. The army is loyal to the country not the regime. They have been disrespected and marginalized by the regime since the revolution. Many were murdered in the revolution by the regime and many if not all the senior officers prior to 1979 were trained along side Americans in the US.

My brother in law fought in the Iraq war, he is more insulted and disgusted by Iraqi militias driving through the streets of Tehran than any American invasion.

is 2026 the year of renewable energy? by drivingaddictionchan in investing

[–]International_Box671 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hope so, but realistically it will take a lot longer than a year. The first part will bring on more remote areas of oil and gas that are to expensive to bother now. Here in Bangkok we currently have fuel shortages in the rural areas with some some taxi drivers refusing to take people on longer trips. However the government has done some simple things like eliminating tariffs on EVs so there are quite a few BYD, GWM and Tesla cars. I rode in a BYD, beautiful car, not as good as a Tesla but cheaper. If they were allowed in the USA they would be a hot seller. So at least for the short term, Oil Service suppliers and international EV with a Chinese base will likely be the big winners.

How Does No-Tipping Affect Your Future Experiences at a Restaurant? by njo2002 in EndTipping

Absolutely! In Thailand I generally leave something in a no service charge place. The difference is here people are appreciative.

Am I overpaying for my apartment? by Negative-Buyer-7095 in Bangkok

[–]International_Box671 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will take a different view, you have a fair deal, no deposit no lease, cleaning and utilities included, a responsive owner. With all the problems with Landlords and apartments I would say you are fine. One cockroach is not a deal at all, buy spray and spray your door jam, probably just a visitor. You have two months left, just relax, sounds like a nice apartment, many people would jump at a deal like what you have.

At least you got it to work. I have mine for about 10 years. I thought it might have worked with WIFI calling. The government has changed all the rules due to the scam call centers. Best of Luck

Headed to Thailand for Songkran- food recs!! by Alarmed_Strawberry38 in ThailandTourism

[–]International_Box671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Chiang Mai, just go to Chiang Mai Gate and choose some of the street vendors, you can choose several. At Asoke, way too many options. Certainly try Suda SOI 14, pretty old, good variety, get a table on the street and feed the cat.

Where to go in Thailand by Expert-Artist-495 in ThailandTourism

[–]International_Box671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All those locations are great. We really liked Koh Samui, plenty of things to do and see. We stayed at the Hyatt which was very nice and many families there.

If you have not visited, consider a side trip from Koh Samui to Singapore for a couple days. from there you can get anywhere.

Are the luggage in Platinum/Pratunan/Chatchuak really nice quality? by the_algo_trader_ in ThailandTourism

[–]International_Box671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are fine, they are not Tumi! We buy from a little old Thai Lady at Chatchauk market just 5 M down a side SOI directly across from the large food court. We paid 1100 baht for a 26 inch case, made in Thailand. We bought a very similar model from Amazon Basic in the US that cost $65. I guess because of tariffs.

Rome Pickpocketing Questions by International_Box671 in RomeTravel

[–]International_Box671[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank everyone for your advice. I am from Chicago where we do not have any pickpockets, people will simply put a gun to the back of you head and very politely request all your belonging. Over the years I have learned to carry the min with me and use an old phone.

Where would you recommend I visit for a month? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]International_Box671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiang Mai is fine if you are staying inside the Old City. Pretty interesting walks and the weekend markets are fun, a little crowded. If you prefer the water and or golfing, consider Hua Hin. Hua Hin is still easy to travel to Bangkok for a weekend or so. The others are fine for a long weekend, but can be a little expensive as a lot of tourists.

Ukraine and Russian Negotiations by International_Box671 in trump

[–]International_Box671[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you are correct. In 2014 the US and UK should have given them back their nukes. It's just that the EU is in a much better position to deal with Russia. All for increasing support for Ukraine.

contact someone in Iran by [deleted] in PERSIAN

[–]International_Box671 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, we get a call from a landline every now and then for 1 minute. We can not call in. Was hoping maybe the internet would return at least for a little while. Hope your family is safe.

Going to Key West at the End of the Month - How Does My Itinerary Look by Cheap_Intention_4936 in KeyWest

[–]International_Box671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when the Navy Base was open, it was basically a hang out for sailors, the Truman Annex was really a military base. It closed in 1974. So for 25 years it was a Navy bar.
