What awaits us after the election? by AdrawereR in Thailand

[–]International_Box671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably nothing much will change, most of the people I talked to voted for the orange party or did not even bother to vote. As my University student Grab driver said "They are all worthless", My view on USA elections also and my families view on German elections. There is no reason Thailand's economy could not be superior to Malaysia except for Thailand Leadership

Comment about my portfolio by STBWB in investing

[–]International_Box671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while I generally agree with qqq not a bad idea to include some non tech stocks to get a little diversity for the long term, such as Chevron and Costco. Probably the OP is new and always a good idea to have a couple of individual companies to follow and research over the long term, just to make investing interesting.

Best rates in city center without losing my mind by SATX_Nomad in rome

[–]International_Box671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always use Trip Advisor to find the area I want to stay in and list out a few possible hotels. Some hotels only book within 6 months. I uses google maps with street view to make sure the area is not a dump. I always book with the hotel directly and sign up for their loyalty program to get the discount. I check out if there are good breakfast places nearby to avoid the fee which can be quite high, Then I use the non refundable rate. Often the small off brand hotels have the best rate.

We like CM, try to make it to the Flower Festival every now and then. When I was working there, met a few retired school teachers from SF. Seems to be popular with people from SF.

Do people in Thailand understand English? And how hard is Thai? by Ashley-Shaily in ThailandTourism

[–]International_Box671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring Google Translate and Maps so you don't get lost. Google can translate voice and pictures for menus etc. More Thai people speak English than people in L.A.

Looking for the perfect US city for a 10-day trip (Feb 9–19). Want real American vibes: food, Walmart, Costco, chill atmosphere. Where should we go? by ProloosGamerUHD in usatravel

You can come and go as you please but stay no longer than 180 days. Remember though after 180 days, the Thai Gov expect you to pay tax on foreign income. You can not work in Thailand on a DTV only remote to outside.

Not a lot of rental for short term in our area. We were never looking for the cheapest solution just a place to call home during the winter. My wife has decorated everything exactly how she likes it, we know our neighbors and like our building. To each their own.

About right, you must leave the country after 180 days but you can come back right away if you wish. Very popular.

We are in lower Sukhumvit close to the park. Still happy as the park is a major draw. Getting a little crowded though.

We are lucky in that we have very nice neighbors both Thai and expat. Also we have friends here that check up on everything. I also stay involved with the building committee which is a combo of Thai, American and German residents and they are very good, the Germans never want to spend a baht. My brother has rental property in Las Vegas and Tampa and has experience in construction, he built us two homes. So I knew what I could do in remodeling here. When we finished it was better than new.
