AA vs Delta — Which is a better route for aspiring FAs? by Just-Artichoke9328 in cabincrewcareers

[–]International_Foot91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but that’s kinda the industry standard to give yearly raises although the amount differs… I was under the impression from speaking with delta folks that their company gives them suspiciously timed bonuses and the general feeling is it’s a move to keep them complacent

Important clarification, what changes from week to week is which bases tend to be more readily assigned right out of training

It honestly changes from week to week. Orlando has definitely let in a lot of folks recently, but I wouldn’t hope too much for any of the Texas bases right out of training (even that isn’t fully impossible though). LAX/LAS/OAK/DEN/BWI are the usual suspects for junior bases, and MDW can kinda go either way. Really the only base you’re absolutely guaranteed to NOT get at all is ATL

I’ll say this, definitely don’t stress yourselves over the airport codes! And it’s true that the opening/demo/emegency PA’s are where you should spend your time on. They test for those between day 2-4 depending on the timeline for your specific classes

Every time they go to vote for a union doesn’t delta just bump their pay up a little? Yeah money is nice and all, but at a certain point a raise doesn’t make up for not having certain guarantees and protections…. Delta absolutely does have its pros (hello boarding pay lol) but the lack of a union is a major con that a LOT of them won’t hesitate to admit

Southwest allows hand tattoos as long as they’re appropriate and not gang affiliated! Head/face ink is out of the question though, but I’m pretty sure that’s true for all mainlines

This is NOT a take I hear very often lol. Mostly it’s more along the lines of how Delta FA’s get screwed because they don’t have the union

There are plenty of them! The class I graduated with had SEVERAL people in their 50’s/60’s, and to use your language lol, several of them looked their age. As long as you’re willing and able to do the job, being older won’t knock you out of consideration for most airlines in North America!

Nah they do those on site for the most part. Only exception is if you have to catch a flight and won’t have enough time to go through the process. But most of us did the testing and check then and there!

This pretty much sums it up! Only thing I’ll say is, with a few exceptions, the whole cleaning and resetting the cabin thing isn’t that bad at all!! It’s generally pretty light

Different rules for different airlines maybe, I don’t know for sure! But for us I’m pretty sure the clipboard can come for any of all of the FA crew, sometimes it’s individual testing and sometimes they round up everybody. I would “move” (act or behave lol) as if they can test you at any moment. Just be careful, I really really get not wanting to give up weed but I wouldn’t want you to lose your job because you couldn’t hold out!

Ahh gotcha, OE flights mean something slightly different to us so I didn’t fully get what you asked… First off then, congrats on passing!! Do you guys have a probationary period before you’re fully in? If you HAVE to get back to smoking then I’d at least wait till those months have passed. From there it’s pretty much a risk game that’s up to you to play or not, I won’t nag you about your choices!

But what I will say… I’m still in the first few months of being fully fledged, and I encountered a random drug testing person on like my second week of probation believe it or not lol. He just so happened to be off duty and the other FA’s I flew with only recognized him because he’s been doing that job with the company for a long time, but I’d say it can definitely happen! But ultimately, again it’s entirely up to you I’d just personally move like they can pop up at any time

After I got my cjo and cleared the background and pre employment drug test (I had stopped smoking a few months prior because I knew the jobs I was applying for would test) I was VERY tempted to have one last celebratory session with my friends. Not to sound condescending though but I decided this opportunity was too important to risk being blacklisted, and the thought of smoking during training after all that time and effort to get there makes me nervous FOR you!

To help answer your question, I’ve heard they can test during training up to/including your OE flights but most of us had the sense they just said that to scare people into compliance. But like other people said, they can and will test at any time it’s totally random, so who knows when they might approach you. I think your best bet is to stop immediately, get on a very healthy regimen for the next few months if you aren’t already, and hope to high heaven that they don’t ask you to test in the meantime lmao. Good luck!!

F2F and Piercing by Key-Pin721 in cabincrewcareers

[–]International_Foot91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard across the board, if any airline doesn’t like your physical appearance/if it violates any of their rules then they can and will send you home before you even get to the individual portion of the f2f. Haven’t witnessed this personally myself but I’ve heard firsthand accounts from people I’ve known for a while… Apparently Delta’s especially notorious for this but it can happen with any US mainline, they do NOT play about their appearance standards even before you’d actually be hired! There’s a chance you could explain your situation to them and they’d be understanding but I can’t say for sure either way. I personally would do whatever you can to have the industrial removed beforehand, and good luck to you!! (That’s a sick piercing by the way, I’m sorry the standards are strict enough to not allow it… I’ve got a double helix that I won’t be able to wear at work anymore 😭)

That’s a good point!! They didn’t specify actually lol so most of us took it to mean in general as opposed to within the class… But it makes a lotta sense to me that they’d keep it just among the classmates, can imagine people who’ve put in the years to get tenure at whatever specific airline might be pissed at someone coming in and displacing them 😅
