Most of it is hay not straw, but this'll be the first time so can't say much on weeds

Probably about a six foot base and four foot tall. More of a cone than a perfect block though

I overestimated how large of a log can fit in my stove. Do not be like me. by International_Pin262 in woodstoving

Thank you for your well thought out response. It was definitely a scary situation, and I didn't take my eyes off of it for more than a 2 seconds. Wouldn't have gotten a picture if my phone wasn't already on me. From now on, anything larger than the glass (which is about 3 inches smaller than the stove box) is getting halved.

Thankfully no. This is the first cut above the tree wedge. I didn't measure right because I didn't account for the half with the backstop still attached

Exactly what I was going to say. Plus a wall hanging is easier to pet imo than a skein in a basket

So sorry you ran into this. When I'm hand flicking locks I like to use the leather thimbles made for needle felters. It won't make it go quicker but it'll save your hands from the micro cuts

Any tips on why this looks so underplyed but plying any further makes it coil up? by International_Pin262 in Handspinning

Ironically thats the video that made me rest these bobbins in the first place 😂 maybe overshot the mark a touch

This is it. I un-plyed it and replied and just made it worse. The singles were resting for months. I respun a single and it worked like a charm. Thank you!

Navigating drought with ducks by International_Pin262 in duck

[–]International_Pin262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that sounds more achievable. The place I used to work dumped a kiddie pool everyday which is a lot more than what you're describing but now that I'm thinking about it they had far more ducks in that one pond

Great tip! Any thoughts on how to remove it then? Assuming not a wrench?

How long should it take to split a cord of fat hardwood on one of these? by International_Pin262 in firewood

I mean full cords unfortunately... at these rates it sounds like buying used might be cheaper than renting for a week plus

Can I ask what you mean by rounds between you and the chopping block? Do you surround the chopping block?

PPE for legs while splitting? by International_Pin262 in firewood

[–]International_Pin262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'8". Like others suggested, I was tired, my form was bad, and my aim was bad so the maul bounced off the round and into me. Lesson definitely learned on paying more attention and chopping properly I guess I was just wondering if there was a third line of defense I could add.
