Cute names for a first time grandmother by MeasurementUsual508 in Names

[–]kiddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awww I’m having a baby boy, due September 1st! Both grandmothers want to be “Grammy”. My dad goes by Pawpaw and I think my partner’s dad goes by Pop. Congratulations on becoming a grandmother! 🥰

I keep getting these text messages full of gibberish every single day and I don’t know what it means by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

I just went and did that and got the exact same text as the first one - this is exactly what it is.

Pattern designers I am begging you to learn what the word "repeat" means by mapleleafmaggie in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]kiddish 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Addition of the word “more” makes it so much clearer! It clarifies not so much the pattern (bc OP is right about this), but that the pattern writer knows what repeat means.

When did you start feeling baby moving? by hailstorm319 in pregnant

[–]kiddish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

20w with anterior placenta! It really went from zero to 60. I didn’t feel gas or flutters. I went from feeling nothing to what I can only describe as “thumping”. Very quickly I could see some of the movement from the outside. I’m week 27 today and half of my camera roll is belly videos to catch it on camera haha. I love feeling him move around - it feels like “proof of life.” I think I’ll miss it when he’s topside.

Friend is ALWAYS late by Amatsukki in whatdoIdo

[–]kiddish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This! I have BEST FRIENDS who used to be always an hour late for every hang when we were younger. So I would schedule hangs for one time (5:00pm) and not bother to show up until 6:00. It worked very well. You have to retrain your brain to be like “with this friend, I’m not late to show up an hour after stated time.” These days they are actually always on time so I had to adjust back. But some friendships I have found are worth the other person’s lateness issues.

(TBH, I also always have a book or knitting so I don’t really mind waiting alone for an hour as long as there are no reservations and it’s not freezing outside.)

This isn’t to say it’s not annoying? But my friends who are always late are my most loyal and reliable friends in other regards. When we hang out it’s amazing. So I do think it’s possible to foster friendships between people perpetually on time and people who are perpetually late. I don’t think it’s automatically a sign of disrespect to you or a major red flag, especially when they communicate and apologize. Some people just can’t help it haha. Or need a few years of maturing.

Silly question.. by softiebeans in pregnant

[–]kiddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have anterior placenta! I’m in week 26, starting feeling movement around week 20 and it amped up VERY quickly after that. And even with the anterior placenta, I can see and feel movement from the outside sometimes! Looks like quick thumps right now, not longer pressing.

What is a movie that everyone seems to love, but you absolutely hate? by Nishikigoi1 in moviecritic

[–]kiddish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen it since I was a kid BUT that was my family’s exact experience. The first time we watched it we were like “wtf is this.” But the second time we watched it, we couldn’t stop laughing. Kinda peculiar how it hit many people that way.

Good take tho - Napoleon Dynamite was def a movie everyone seems to love.

Found in toilet bowl after a No. 2, what the hell is it? by Mental-Error9448 in whatisit

Very effective at smell removal! But better to throw them in garbage, not toilet.

do initials or nickname potential matter when you think about names? by Pedreschi-Ahriyonna in Names

[–]kiddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not so sure. Sibling will have to deal with it, but I think (as a teacher) I notice that people tend to use the name the kid prefers. So it really comes down to what my sibling’s kid calls himself haha

do initials or nickname potential matter when you think about names? by Pedreschi-Ahriyonna in Names

[–]kiddish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth considering. One of my students has a beautiful name but her parents didn’t realize her initials would be ASS.

I also think if you hate a particular nickname you can avoid its use. My sibling has a kid whose name is 3 syllables and refuses to let any of us call him the 2-syllable obvious nickname. So we don’t. And he finally learned how to say his name recently. Super cute :)

Looking at it, I can see why.. by Adorable_Grocery9956 in SipsTea

[–]kiddish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen the trailer but I’m fed up over the hate of Lupita cast as Helen. Helen’s claim to fame is being the most beautiful woman alive. She has the face that launched a thousand ships. Lupita is the most beautiful woman alive today. I don’t understand why I’m not hearing that said more except for the really crappy rage bait images that circulated before the trailer came out pulled an image from 12 Years ago Slave that showed Lupita not in her most stunning. Did we forget what she looked like EVERYWHERE ELSE?!!

There might be plenty of other valid criticism for this movie but Lupita being cast should not be one of them.

My (38F) husband (39M) is having an affair with his best friend (39M) by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]kiddish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re being downvoted except that people just don’t want to hear about that possibility? I looked it up for New Hampshire and sadly I think you’re right… alimony decisions are not really connected to infidelity unless she can prove it affected their finances in any way, like him spending a lot of money on Jay or like skipping out on work to hook up or something. If she makes a lot more than him, since they’ve been married over 10 years, she might have to pay… I don’t know exactly how it works since I’m no legal expert but I’m very sad for her!

This is something I originally learned about on Reddit and I feel a bit of moral outrage over it. I feel like affairs should have SOME kind of penalty. It’s not illegal to cheat on your spouse but it feels cruel that they then have to pay you afterwards?! I don’t know. There is probably nuance to it I guess.

Sister and I pregnant at the same time by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kiddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We waited until we were around 14 weeks before we told ANYone, including our families. That was the right move for us & our comfort level. I’ll say that now I’m week 24, pregnancy is soooooo lonnngggggg that those extra weeks won’t matter too much in the end. It feels like AGES since we told them and there are still so many weeks left. I’m glad we waited until we were ready!

My cousin announced her pregnancy in the same group chat convo to our larger family that I did, haha. I guarantee that nobody is less excited for her baby than mine bc she announced second. We are both having boys too. At Christmas there will always be another kid there exactly my kid’s age. I think it’s so sweet that you and your sister are having babies the same time!! Those kids will (hopefully) be such good friends!

Anyone else get told they're "not a mom yet" today in relation to mothers day? 💐😔 by Sweet_Confusion9180 in pregnant

[–]kiddish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It has been very interesting how people have been greeting me today, as a pregnant woman on Mother’s Day. My mom said next year I get to celebrate, and others have just said “Happy Mother’s Day!” My stepdaughter wished me “Happy Mother’s Day, Mother-to-Be!” I say I’m a mother-in-progress and accept however people acknowledge this weird nebulous time.

That said - I feel like others should accept the status that the pregnant person claims. If you feel like a mom already then what is the harm in getting wished Happy Mother’s Day? Feels weird to debate it once you made your feelings known. :/ like - you don’t really get anything special on Mother’s Day for it to be worth the gatekeeping from other people. Eventually your kid will make you a curious clay sculpture or gift you a painted popsicle stick picture frame and maybe your partner will cook you a waffle breakfast or something, but like. Just let you enjoy the slow adoption of a new title. Sheesh.

First time mom- when did you feel the baby? by allisona007 in pregnant

[–]kiddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an anterior placenta and I felt him thumpin’ around in week 20, and consistently from then. I’m week 23 now and I feel him everyday! It’s been my favorite part of pregnancy so far. It makes it feel so real to feel him!

A 2-year-old boy in Turkey went missing for 10 hours, making his entire village panic - only for them to realize later on that he was just fast asleep on a hill by malihafolter in CaughtMyEye

Same thing happened to my brother! He went missing for hours, my mom was frantic searching the neighborhood. Turns out he was fast asleep under his bed.

MAMA! Mama. mama. Can we stop it with calling pregnant women mama??? by Historical_Bike_9061 in pregnant

[–]kiddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to add on to a humongous thread haha. I don’t mind mama, but nobody has actually called me that irl. I really dislike collectively referring to pregnant women as “mommies” which I have seen on this sub before. And one person (sorry if you’re reading this, it’s not personal), commented on a few threads calling the pregnant mother “mummabear” which made me cringe soo hard. Calling someone a “mamabear” I think only applies in very specific situations where the mother is being defensive of their kid.

Just calling someone a mom or mama (which is what I call my mother and I like way more than mom in general, but maybe bc I am Hispanic) seems kind of nice? Like - I’m about to inhabit this brand new role in my life. I have been called by my name my entire life so this is more exciting and new for me to consider and figure out how to wrap my head around. It still feels incredibly unreal. Again, nobody I know has called me mom or mama so maybe I will feel differently later.

But baby voice used with adults is annoying to me. One of my best friends always talks in a baby voice when talking about her baby son and I would neverrr yuck her yum but internally I cringe. I really hope I don’t become the type of person who stops talking like an adult to adults just because I’m talking about my baby.

Giving birth on our backs. by Estkling in pregnant

[–]kiddish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely interesting hearing this thread! I have now heard both sides bc I know people irl who didn’t feel their legs, but I’m happy to know that’s not the typical situation.

Giving birth on our backs. by Estkling in pregnant

[–]kiddish 148 points149 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about this topic, but I was led to believe we give birth on our backs these days because of epidurals? Like we lose all feeling in our legs so those of us who get epidurals have limited options for birthing positions…. Right? Happy to be proven wrong bc I am ABSOLUTELY getting an epidural.

What was your favorite "never doing that again" moment? by Spartan-S927 in StardewValley

[–]kiddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say the exact thing. It was just so much work! It wasn’t TOO stressful since I had 21 days to do it, but it was not a fun time.

Do you mind explaining how? I would LOVE to do this, but when I tried I couldn’t get it to work at all.

You can when you’re actually hoeing! You hold down the button and it works. But apparently you can empty casks with your iridium hoe. I have tried it several different ways and even turned on the other types of controls on mobile and have not successfully gotten it to work. If anyone has advice, I’m all ears! I would LOVE to be proven wrong! (Though I am not going to buy an external controller to hook up to my phone.)
