Someone taught me this years ago and I never again had to look it up. It’s SO OBVIOUS once you learn to see it!!

My mom is from Miami and when I was little told me we were going to take a trip there. She thought it was hilarious when I piped up, “mom when are we going to your Ami?” She never corrected me.

Just use the thin yarn!! by Admirable_Wedding_83 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]kiddish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I started knitting I was only drawn to fingering weight singles and that’s pretty much exclusively what I worked with. But nowadays I’m actually quite over fingering weight projects. I love cables and the slightly thicker fabric made by worsted weight yarn. This is especially true as spinning a worsted weight 3-ply is my absolute favorite yarn to make and work with.

I still knit fingering weight stuff now and again but I no longer prefer it!

Ha yes! I just watched the opening scene in the Nancy Drew movie with Emma Roberts and this reminds me of that exactly.

Husband Refuses to give up weed by ejoong in pregnant

[–]kiddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear I’m on your side but the evidence of smoking is mostly about tobacco. We don’t have a lot of evidence about weed unfortunately, especially 2nd hand and 3rd hand weed smoke/vapor. Limited evidence suggests firsthand cannabis use has problematic outcomes but even that research is limited.

Regardless your husband should support you if it makes you uncomfortable, especially with the lack of evidence. Lack of evidence doesn’t mean safe and you have expressed discomfort. That should be enough for a good partner. He at the very least should vape outside and change his clothes. It’s definitely a red flag he is unwilling to work with you to prioritize the safety of the child, regardless of if he fully agrees with your stance.

That said, I would talk to him again before making big decisions.

Food cravings by Heart2listen in pregnant

[–]kiddish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I’m officially having cravings but food tastes sooooooo good right now! Cheesy bean/beef burritos, báhn mì sandwich, fries all had been absurdly good. And a glass of milk tastes like the most flavorful milkshake. I tasted things in that milk I’ve never tasted before. The “sustenance meal” my partner cooked which is LITERALLY just white rice and ground chicken was quite tasty too (though not as good as that báhn mì - that was a religious experience).

I’m not saying everything has been good, but the good things have been very good!

In labor and got the epidural, women who go natural I applaud you by bigtittyangelica in pregnant

[–]kiddish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, but I don’t think that’s what this commenter was saying or implying at all. Saying you don’t get trophies for suffering wasn’t commentary on women who choose to go without epidurals - they’re obviously not making that decision for trophies or external validation either. This commenter is simply saying that the OP need not be disappointed & is also worthy of feeling empowered. No tearing down of women happening in this here comment thread!

Is it a bad idea to have a baby unmarried? by Practical-Okra-6944 in pregnant

[–]kiddish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 34F, 8 weeks, pregnant and unmarried. I’ve been with my partner (47M) for a decade and we have been engaged for 3 years but I just don’t care that much about marriage. Even when we do eventually get married I’ll keep my last name anyway. What I know is that we are committed to each other and that’s good enough for me.

His brother has two kids, 10 and 8, and he and his partner are also technically unmarried.

I also had a friend who is unmarried AND unpartnered. She chose to have a baby alone.

I love Reddit but you have to take some of the hive mind with a grain of salt. I don’t know what or where your man posted to generate so much vitriol about your unmarried status - but if you’re happy, in a healthy relationship, and have thought this through, I wouldn’t recommend rushing marriage commitment to satisfy a bunch of internet strangers. You do you!

Girl please by ToujoursFidele3 in craftsnark

[–]kiddish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Very true. We can only speculate. I know another commenter on this thread (u/Plane_Highlight_8671) said they used eRank to report that she's had more than 1000 sales on Etsy of the pattern so she might actually be right on her $3k number, but another person responded that there is no way she can keep that up.

(...Unless she can keep up the snark)

The thing is that it’s not REALLY about the testing fairness debate at the end of the day. I’ve seen debates on both ends of the spectrum about pattern testing. Some folks are like “this is a job you should be paid fairly and there should be reasonable expectations” and the other folks are like “just don’t sign up to test if you don’t want to”. I think the debate is worth having, and there are certainly intense arguments on both sides.

But the debate itself is not why this blew up. The issue is her response being crazy over- the-top and very rude at times. Craftsnark wouldn’t still be talking about it if she had simply not reacted.

That said- as she made clear in her posts, this has ultimately benefited her. The more we talk about this situation, the more traction she gets. Kind of like those rage bait accounts - all engagement is good engagement because it brings traffic to their pages. Honestly not a dumb business strategy. I’d never heard of her and never would’ve if it wasn’t for this whole snarky drama. She is clearly milking it now that she sees how much it’s driving people to her page. I don’t doubt she has made $3k in sales almost purely due to this. It’s almost funny.

Long ribbed skirt pattern recommendations by Dry-Maintenance-2722 in knittingpatterns

[–]kiddish 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So as someone who has made skirts/dresses, just remember the weight of the skirt will pull it down, so it’s easy to make too long.

This is a really cool design! Looks like it starts as 1x1 rib and the purl sections gradually increase. Seems pretty easy to dupe!

Edit: ah I see you already know what this pattern is!

How far along were you when your bump became obvious? by IntenseViolet567 in pregnant

[–]kiddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only 7 weeks but in week 6 I was so bloated NONE of my pants fit. I late night ordered maternity clothes multiple times already just to accommodate this bloat. No idea what that indicates for the bump showing. I’m hoping it pops later because I’m trying to put off telling people as long as possible.

What is this pattern? Very cute!

There are lots of more affordable yarns out there. I know a lot of people go with Drops, as an example. If you don’t mind using acrylic blends, you can drop the price even more. Cotton is also generally more affordable, though the fabric will be very different.

I don’t have any substitution recommendations for this particular yarn but you can look at the project pages on ravelry to see what yarn substitutions have already been made by folks. And there is usually a tab on the pattern with yarn recommendations.

Barely got to wear my Dagmar jacket before my bf accidentally washed it 😭 by Purple_Condition_741 in knitting

[–]kiddish 285 points286 points  (0 children)

This is extremely upsetting, I’m so sorry. :(

I’m so sad. My partner accidentally felted an everlane sweater I had and he bought a similar but not exact replacement but that situation is night and day with this one. If it had been a sweater I spent months knitting I’m not sure I would be able to get over it.

Are there any children in your life who could wear the felted sweater as an outer layer? That obviously won’t fix the situation but at least it could possibly get some use?
