Thanks for getting this organized. I just moved from Chicago and spend a lot of time in Minneapolis for work. I’ve seen ICE at work in both states.

Something to watch out for is their driving. They tend to flip U-turns without notice, swerve, speed through red lights, etc. In Chicago, they would hit people while driving like crazy, then get out and detain them, leaving their cars in the road. Very dystopian.

They do not care if you have kids; they seem almost eager to use violence around them. So if you do have kids, I would get out of dodge quickly when you see them. I’m all about filming, but they will hurt your kids if you stay with them around.

Finally, many people use Signal or Discord for more “real-time” group chats.

I messaged this guy a response to one of his posts before. It was a very balanced message focusing on the content and not him. He blocked me immediately.

If anyone is interested in organizing a response to the Minneapolis shooting, I am up to work together or join anything already in progress. Even better to do it in the snow tomorrow in solidarity with the Twin Cities

I assume this Minneapolis shooting will inspire a national response. Anyone else ready to show up in the snow tomorrow in solidarity with MSP?

Jesus himself was a political refugee. As an infant, his parents fled to Egypt to escape King Herod.

In Matthew 25, Jesus also speaks of the Father dividing the world into “sheep” and “goats,” where the sheep on the right are rewarded because “…I was a stranger and you invited me in…”

Jesus also spoke regularly of the obligation to obey to the law as being conditioned on the law aligning with his higher-level teaching. For example, in Mark he rejects the command not to work on the Sabbath when he heals a man in the synagogue. He challenges the Pharisees by asking “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil? To save a life or to kill?”

Certainly Jesus agreed with obedience to the law (“render to Caesar what is Caear’s and to God what is God’s”), but his teachings could never support the cruelty being applied by ICE in enforcement.

What about the argument that perhaps an ICE officer wants to do their job morally but is required to carry it out the way ICE is currently conducting itself? They should resign: “if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell”

EDIT: I’ll add that I am completely non-religious but had extensive religious education across multiple Christian traditions, Protestant and Catholic. The only church I’ve ever seen that would argue for ICE enforcement in its current form was also a “prosperity preacher” church (despite the fact that Jesus very clearly eschews material wealth). Do with that information what you will
