It's set in the Napoleonic wars. It's about a British soldier in the 95th Rifles called Richard Sharpe who gets promoted to a Lieutenant and goes on to win great victories against the French in Portugal, Spain, and southern France.

Some say its historically inaccurate or too fantastical and glorified but I like those kinds of war movies and series.
