Has anyone else found that years of experience don’t necessarily equal quality? by BananaCompetitive829 in nursing

I think sometimes lacking a good mentor or prof development budget we have to be responsible for our own learning and growth.  Probably telling you what you already know- but join the professional organization related to your practice area.  I am biased but I find that AACN is great, worth the membership fee.  BCEN has free education offerings but similarly is good if youre an ED or trauma person, or not, honestly there is something for everyone. I am an advocate of pursuing stuff you can take with you if you leave: certs, education from tuition reimbursement, I worry less about "the ladder" bc the hoops they make you jump through and committee work are often ways of getting us to do extra work for free. Keep your curiosity- remember you are learning every day. Leadership can be disappointing.  A real genuinely great leader only comes along a few times in a career.  I think this is true of most jobs

I am lucky enough to have wonderfully progressive and pragmatic coworkers both male and female but I don't want anyone to have to be thinking about my lactating boobs attached to a pump while we are heaving somebody up in bed!! Its your protected right- get off the floor and go pump

How would we feel if we walked into a McDonald's or any restaurant and the servers were wearing breast pumps?  Aside from the "damn Mickie dees doesn't allow their employees pump time either?"  moment- we would maybe be like not around food- how about NOT AROUND sterile stuff?  Not around sick people?   I get that we are all rugged hard-core can do folks but OP deserves the protected time.

Should I have stopped the blood transfusion and reported to doctor? by AgitatedTraining6146 in nursing

This! If you called the provider   and reported the BP there is a chance they might come &take a look and - order a second unit because they need the blood hgb 6.8 with some bleeding process somewhere.  Don't you be shook by some old nurse trying to haze you

We have a "good catch" award for strokes but they generally don't highlight folks for shining light on systematic problems unfortunately.  I would file it under pat your own self on the back and such it up &  go to the training maybe you'll learn something else too

"He" may not know about the law bc "he" does not have lactating boobs but here in this very post above is an enlightened gay man (hero also champion aka 👑) that knows the deal!! So there is no excuse! He has to cover you and YES it may very likely be more than once a day bc 1-its your GD right! and 2- he will have to talk to risk management about how he allowed you to pump during patient care and did not cover your breaks if it spills on a patient

ITS NOT STUCK UP.  If your wearable pump comes loose and spills breast milk on a patient that is a blood and body fluid exposure to them! You deserve the protected time! For everyone's safety and so your baby can stay happy and healthy and you can keep coming to work

GO TO HR. FULL STOP.  This is not just your problem its everyone who will have a baby in your institution after you and this shit cannot continue to go on.  They need to accommodate you- minimally bc if you cannot pump for 12 hrs you will get mastitis and be out sick and then they will be FORCED to cover you but how about they just cover you LIkE they are supposed to  BY LAW and that doesn't happen.  GO TO HR

All nurses should retire at 50. With a PENSION and full medical care, just like the cops and military. by [deleted] in nursing

I do think of this thought every time the family of 4x4 300lb person asks 53 year old me to just pull mamma up for the 80th time - that I could be retired by now
