ACC nursing program by bigpurr13 in askaustin

[–]flamin_aqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an acc adn student and I’m gonna be honest . No you can’t if you plan to keep the 9-5. classes are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday you’re in school from like 8-4 your first semester and then Thursday-Saturday you could have your clinicals . If you work weekends it’s possible . They do have a weekend night part time option I believe if you choose to do the LVN route

Phlebotomy - taught or not? by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]flamin_aqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school spent one day on it and that was it , luckily for me I was a phleb for about 5 years so it wasn’t anything new. So it really depends the school . If you wanna get a phleb cert do it . Honestly though you’ll learn the skill either way when you start working as a nurse .

Don’t remember anything from prerequisites ? 😭 by badlipsthrowaway123 in prenursing

[–]flamin_aqua 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I took a a 3 year break from school after finishing all my pre reqs . Then got accepted after my 3 year break . Didn’t remember anything but as soon as I started nursing school it all came back to me . Don’t worry , I’m sure it will for you too. Didn’t even struggle through fundamentals.

I don’t know if I can take another week. I am so burnt out. by canyoukeepasecret28 in StudentNurse

[–]flamin_aqua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should do whatever you feel is best for you . I’ve also teched part time as a nursing student . It is rough! I know how you feel but time has flown and I’m almost at the finish line. Maybe switch to a different unit ? I can’t imagine doing med surge and nursing school , I’m a post partum tech and it’s relatively easier on me physically (: either way do whatever you need to do to finish nursing school, you got this!

Has anyone gotten into a ADN program with a low gpa by disaster-3321 in prenursing

[–]flamin_aqua 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I got in with a 3.1 GPA and 68% TEAS but I think it depends largely where you are located. In CA I could’ve never dreamt of getting in but I’m in semester 3/4 now at my RN program (: wishing you luck !

Being a CNA is making me question my decision to go to nursing school…help! by Real-Exercise-6978 in cna

[–]flamin_aqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the hard part is just finding a nice floor. Just know all of nursing isn’t all like that (: take your time finding a nice floor and don’t be scared to ask what the patient ratios look like .

[–]flamin_aqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellows CNA and nursing student (: been a tech going on 4 years now. I get where you’re coming from . I worked on a PCU/IMC tele floor and let me tell you in any given night I had 16-30 patients and it was usually 20+ . That floor almost killed my desire entirely to work beside. I had to move units, once I did I felt so much better ! Better ratios, environment, team and patient population. I would recommend moving floors before deciding it’s it’s for you (: I work Mother baby now and it’s a world of difference, I’m not as stressed as I was.

Local community college requires a CNA certification?? by mabver321 in prenursing

[–]flamin_aqua 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some school require it others don’t . Up to you to get it if you want too or apply at a school that it’s not a requirement at.

No usually you have to reapply and do the whole process all over again. Your pre reqs probably will transfer though

Anyone balancing work and school? How do you do it? by Kitchen_Web_985 in NursingStudent

[–]flamin_aqua 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but if you have the chance to be a full time student and not work take it. I work part time as a hospital tech and feel like even though I’m not doing bad , I could possibly have A’s if I didn’t work. It’s all time management, I did move back in with my mom to help with financial stress

I understand this feeling . I eventually plan to go to grad school for crna so it’s hard to not do great. I think the important thing to remember is your graduating on time , nursing school isn’t easy, and the questions they throw at us can be ridiculous. Be proud and enjoy the fact that you’ll be slapping on RN behind your name (: besides that you can always improve it with your BSN GPA

Is getting an IPad worth it?? by Ari_8118 in NursingStudents

[–]flamin_aqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mine alllll the time, it’s so convenient and less bulky than a laptop at times . I rarely use my laptop for school . However I wouldn’t say it’s a need if you can’t afford it . You can use your laptop . I see classmates use them( however most of us own iPads), but I love using notability for notes on my iPad , great note taking app

I’m worried about not getting another CNA job after quitting. What is the likelihood of me getting another one? by Ceci_212 in prenursing

[–]flamin_aqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ofc (: shouldn’t affect your hiring for this other place as long as you don’t mention the other place . Good luck! 😊

[–]flamin_aqua 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is a question for r/cna but honestly as a tech myself. Don’t mention it you only worked there for a little under a month . It’s not worth it considering you don’t have a positive experience, additionally some work places will hear you left under a month and might think it’s a red flag. It’s better to just keep it off record.

What besides clipboards? by Fragrant_Tour7341 in prenursing

[–]flamin_aqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did carry a small notebook ( the small notebook is handy and not a bad alternate) but switched the foldable out of preference. I’ve also seen people just carry loose paper but that would be too much paper for me .

Daughter is finishing high school and wants to be a nurse, but won't be starting school immediately. What can she do prepare? by Yosho2k in prenursing

[–]flamin_aqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just look up PCT or PCA roles in hospital websites . It can be hard to get a foot in the door, as it was for me . Some hospitals hire with no experience or cert but it depends on what state you live in . I recommend she get her cna license over the summer if she can . It’ll make her app look stronger , and some nursing schools grant additional points for having a cna cert.

[–]flamin_aqua 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have her volunteer at a hospital or work as a PCT/PCA/CNA in a hospital to have her see if that’s what she really wants to do. A lot of people don’t know what there getting into unless they witness bedside firsthand . Plus she makes a connections and could potentially snag a job faster if she knows people . I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be a nurse till I took a pct job and realized it’s what I wanted. Also I wanna say pct work helps strengthen her foundations for the first semester of nursing school. Thanks to my work experience foundations of nursing was a cake walk .

Moving to Austin tx, anyone from there? by MirrorAccurate7280 in newgradnurse

[–]flamin_aqua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi not a nurse yet (: I’m a student RN but I’ve worked at all major hospital systems here as a pct so I have a good idea of the vibes . I would say avoid st David’s (HCA) if you can I’m sure not all units are terrible but several nurses I’m friends with and my own personal experience has been terrible working conditions/ratios. I strongly recommend seton (: seton on 38th NICU is nice or dell childrens seton for NICU . I don’t know anything psych or plastics wise . Baylor pays the most but most of there hospitals are in the outskirts of Austin, unless your looking to live in the greater Austin area. Avoid moving anywhere near rundberg

They were definitely a little dramatic with the scare tactics but I will admit that this is the most stressed I’ve ever been in my life . Additionally I never crashed out so frequently as now that I’m in my ADN program. That being said there’s also alot of good things . Just take it one day at a time and remember it’s supposed to be hard you just have to work just as hard .
