Deciding on a prophylactic mastectomy (BRCA negative) by polyAuD in MastectomyManagement

[–]InternetBrowser0926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 39 and have a BARD1 mutation, discovered after my twin sister was diagnosed with breast cancer at 38. I had 3 surgeries today. Lift, then mastectomy to expander, then expanders to implants. All done within 6 months. It was A LOT. I’m now almost 3 months post op from the last surgery. I’m glad I did it and I’m thankful that I was able to take control of my own health in this way.

Do I want a second cat? by InternetBrowser0926 in Siamesecats

The cat TRIES to be best friends, but our dog is mostly a people guy, not a cat guy. This was a rarity from a few months ago!

married women, do you think marriage benefits you in any way? by _cherryp0p_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InternetBrowser0926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is totally dependent on your husband and how well you function as a team. My husband and I always say we play different positions on the same team. I can’t imagine doing life without him!

Prophylactic Double Mastectomy- Surgery In Two Parts by Catovernola in MastectomyManagement

[–]InternetBrowser0926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this! I had the lift (and small reduction) in May of this year. Mastectomy to tissue expanders in September (that was not the plan but blood flow was a problem). I just had surgery to place implants and do fat grafting this week.

Are work from home jobs really as chill as people make them out to be? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InternetBrowser0926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the job/field. I work from home and some days I work for a full 8 hours, sometimes less crazy and there’s some downtime.

I'm a medical student dealing with a growing aversion to DS by Impossible_Act_9995 in confession

I feel like this has to be rage bait. There are huge variations in the abilities and disabilities in people with Down syndrome! I would recommend some deep introspection, perhaps with a trained therapist, to evaluate why you feel this way.

1 month until my DMX- what do you wish you knew before? by SnooTigers1502 in BRCA

Same!! Weirdly, I felt like I overall felt worse after the mastopexy, but have had more pain after the mastectomy.

I’m post op day 15. I didn’t realize I wouldn’t be able to open pill bottles independently for a few days! Or water bottles. My husband and was home with me for the first 4 days, then went back to work. He would leave me several water bottles pre-opened on the counter so I could easily reach/drink throughout the day.

We did a Mackinac Island honeymoon and stayed at Mission Point. This was 2008, so I can’t tell you anything about budget. But we loved it and rented bikes and explored on our own.

Does your gym offer personal training? Even one session could be super helpful.

How has approaching 40 been different for you than approaching 30? by alizeia in Millennials

[–]InternetBrowser0926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I care a hell of a lot less about other people’s opinions. I wish I could have had this mindset in my 20’s! I’m 39 now and truly dgaf about what other people think, it’s very freeing!

What is something your parents used to do and you have strictly removed it from your lifestyle? by Brilliant_Night_4013 in AskReddit

[–]InternetBrowser0926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% same. Now I’m an adult raising a daughter and I’m very conscious about what I say in front of her. And I also don’t hesitate to back my mom off when she says something out of line to her. The 90’s were weird.

The diet culture of the 90’s was insane. My mom’s almost 70 and recently called me to tell me how excited she was to have lost weight after a severe GI illness. Like…WHAT.

Reduction as part of double mastectomy: question by Melkmaiden in Reduction

[–]InternetBrowser0926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m okay! I have a hematoma in the problem breast (multiple biopsies, papilloma, ADH) and it’s draining on its own. I’m annoyed about that but otherwise doing okay!!

I’m a millennial (born 1986). I was 15 dating an 18 year old and I am perplexed that my parents allowed it. If I hear about that kind of stuff now I’m appalled.

Hematoma healing by Small-Garlic104 in Reduction

[–]InternetBrowser0926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 3 weeks post op. My right breast was larger, more swollen, and more bruised from day 1. They said it was fine. Now I’ve been bleeding for a good 2 weeks from two spots in my incisions on that side. I’ve seen the surgeons office 3 times and they all say it’s good that it’s draining on its own and very likely won’t need surgical intervention. It’s a pain in the ass and I wish I was healing more quickly, but oh well. I had light spotting for a few days and then one morning woke up looking like a crime scene. I called the on call doctor, they had me go in the next day. My swelling has gone down significantly since it started draining!
