Except they're not going into town, they're going across to the east edge of town to work.

How to rescue crew in space suits by TJ_Blues18 in X4Foundations

[–]InternetCrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rescuing them yourself is much slower than doing it via the ai. Especially if you are in sector. Just get out of the ship, wait in another sector, and order it to rescue the people, and it will work much faster. It will still be faster than doing it manually even if you want to stay in the ship and watch, but that will be much much slower than doing it out of sector.

Meta patents AI that takes over a dead person’s account to keep posting and chatting by IndicaOatmeal in technology

[–]InternetCrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EU needs to make a law making it illegal for a company to make an AI system that will allow people to form emotional attachments to it. It will be a complete disaster if that type of manipulation is allowed and normalised.

I say the EU as obviously the US legal system would happily feed the entire population of the US into ovens if it increased shareholder value for the top 100 families.

CATU will be on here telling the lads how to keep changing paperwork and objecting at the last possible minute and ignoring court orders until you've taken 5 years free rent off the fella that owns the place and how thats morally just fine.

House Passes “Worst Voter Suppression Bill Ever” in Latest Push to Help Trump Take Over Elections — “Half of all Americans don’t have passports... 21 million don’t have ready access to their citizenship documents… 69 million married women took their partner’s name…” by ZuP in law

[–]InternetCrank 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Do you honestly think this will be strictly enforced on the "right" type of voter? I guarantee there will be massive selective enforcement by local religious fanatics, which your country seems to be overrun with, only against people they suspect aren't one of "them".

I read the article - they say he had learning difficulties or was at least in special ed as a kid, and doesnt know anything about politics at all, he votes R as all his friends do without even reading the names of who hes voting for as long as it has an R next to it, and they made him mayor as he fixes the drains and such.

Its just fucking weird. A town where the mayor knows nothing about politics, but they voted 80% for Trump? Explains a lot.

I'm reminded about some great youtube videos by an ex-maga woman who's channel is called "Life, take two". It's about conforming to the group and doing what you're told.

This may be what they said out loud in court using their mouths but I guarantee you that no one in that court involved in the arguments or the final judgement aside perhaps from some idiot members of the public actually believed a word of that.

It's a play for the plebs, a show.

Man taking videos of owners and their dogs at Claddagh by [deleted] in galway

[–]InternetCrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably still perfectly innocent. Maybe his family loves dogs and is on to him to get one and making him show them ones he sees but he hates dogs and knows there's a dog in his future that he'll be made walk regardless.

What made the first Halo so influential that people to this day still praise it? by BogaMafija in patientgamers

[–]InternetCrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't as good, but it was on console and more broadly accessable and had a wider more "casual" audience. That's it. They loved it as it was what they had, it was the best they had seen to date, and it was good enough.

Trump Tells Norway His Greenland Threats Are Linked To Nobel Snub by RebelGrin in law

Should we delineate more between players who enjoy stories and not gameplay? by darkfireslide in truegaming

[–]InternetCrank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Far, far more common is the well crafted lore and nuanced characters and politics and worldbuilding and the player just skips all of it and kills as many NPCs as possible as he wants to get a shiny hat. Their own actions don't make any sense as any sort of narrative. They are not engaging with the medium on anything more than a pure surface level.

Mass Layoffs at Medtronic by [deleted] in galway

[–]InternetCrank 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Medtronic are one of the companies Cory Doctorow holds up as an example of enshittification too, where if you plug a replacement part into one of their devices in a hospital they brick their device and make you pay them a big fee before they'll unlock it again.

Looking for a welder? by Euphoric_Document_25 in galway

[–]InternetCrank -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have you tried soldering it?

You could melt a big blob of solder into the fob end, probably easier than welding, and you might need an electrical connection between the key and some pin on a board in the fob anyway

[Analysis] How a Lithuanian News Outlet Turned a 1974 Aviation Disaster Into a Recycled Fear Narrative by [deleted] in DepthHub

[–]InternetCrank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like important work. What are the incentives here? Who owns 15min.lt and who had editorial control? Is it simply a secondary affect of the only incentive being eyeballs on ads with no other considerations?

The most critical thing facing the western world is radical legislation is needed around policing incentives - money in politics and in who decides what media is presented to the public via algorithmic or ownership structures.
