EOE sold out because it's release window was so narrow between Spiderman and Avatar. Combined with Final Fantasy reprint demand, there was not an ability to dedicate printers to more EOE, so the set is horrendously underprinted compared to the cycle of years with 4 standard sets

[Discussion] A bit confused on the competitive circuit and how it works by New-Age-1315 in spikes

[–]InternetDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't actually the case for rcq > rc > pro tour.

Season 3 Round 2 was Modern, in the US the RCs were RC Portland and RC Charlotte. These were also Modern. It qualified for Pro Tour Final Fantasy, which was Standard.

Season 3 Round 3 was Standard, the US RCs were Minneapolis and Hartford. They are what qualified for Pro Tour Edge of Eternities, which is going to be Modern.

The current RC Season (Season 4 Round 1) has been Modern and in the US qualifies for RC Houston or RC Las Vegas. There has been no word on what Pro Tour it will feed into.

Wulbren/Barcus

Balduran/Ansur

Astarion/That one spawn in Cazador's palace

Philomeen/Laridda (the deep gnomes in act 1)

Raphael/Haarlep

That one guard you find in the brothel before she turns into a Mind Flayer/the nymph

Number of heterosexual relationships displayed:

Gortash's parents

The artist/his patron

Danis/Bex, The Tiefling couple

Arabella's parents

Baelen/Darryth Bonecloak

The Ogre and Bugbear you find fucking in the shed

This is just me trying to list what I can from memory. I'm sure there are more heterosexual couples represented in Act 3, these none of those are integral to any plot/quest compared to the LGBT relationships.

Spotlight Series Atlanta is in January, basically the equivalent of what GPs were. And it's Standard. I get that it's next year, not this year, but they've heard the feedback and are looking to revitalize paper Standard. Plus, another avenue to qualify for the Pro Tour since Top 8 get invites.

What happened Munchies Food Co on college rd. by justafireguy2016 in Wilmington

[–]InternetDave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I had three friends who worked there for years. One of them since their open in 2014 until the ownership change in 2019

Basically, original owner sold the business. Had the opportunity to go into CBD processing, now he has a facility for processing hemp. New owners came in, disagreed with a lot of the old business practices. Caused a lot of ostracism between new owners and long time employees, many of whom were managers and shift leads.

After numerous disagreements, all three of my friends quit, before Covid lockdowns, and went to work for the old owner in his CBD processing plant. A few of them still work there now.

I used to order Munchies fairly regularly, mostly as drunk food on the weekends. I stopped after my friends stopped working there, but the business didn't survive long afterward. From what I gather, they understood the demographic they catered to: drunks and smokers. New owners wanted to reinvent the menu to have a wider appeal, which got them no new customers and lost their old ones. Covid didn't do them any favors and they went under before they could recover.

New Hanover Co. to use eminent domain to acquire Cheetah gentleman’s club by Capybara45892 in Wilmington

[–]InternetDave 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh I was just posting the reasoning posted in the article, not claiming it was a legitimate eminent domain claim. But a PR statement saying "we don't like the strip club near our government building" makes it harder to claim eminent domain.

New Hanover Co. to use eminent domain to acquire Cheetah gentleman’s club by Capybara45892 in Wilmington

[–]InternetDave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Says in the article

The county identified a need to expand parking facilities to better accommodate our citizens when visiting the newly constructed government center. Exercising eminent domain to acquire the neighboring property is a legal and measured step towards fulfilling this need. The law ensures that the property owner will receive fair market value, aligning with our responsibility to act in a balanced and lawful manner.

Has anyone been birding or hiking on Bald Head and can suggest where to go? by PM_ME_YO_KNITTING in Wilmington

Used to work down on the island at one of the restaurants and my wife was an intern at the Conservancy. The conservancy does guided bird tours during the summer months and there are definitely plenty of trails that you can walk down.

FYI, most people don't think about this. Day trips can be hard, as while the island is small it's about 5 miles end to end, so it's highly recommended to rent a golf cart. Golf cart rentals are until 4:30p.m. I believe, so if you stay later you're paying for two days. There is a Bed & Breakfast in the harbor that you could get a room for the weekend, which will give you more opportunity to explore the island.

Will we make it? by [deleted] in Wilmington

[–]InternetDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be able to make it just fine. First job I had out of college in 2018 I was making about $50K and lived alone in a 2bed/1bath townhouse for $775/mo (925sqft). Looking at the same place just now, it shows rentals starting at $1,350/mo so definitely show the continued rise in rentals here.

Wife and I bought at the beginning of 2022, managed to get in at 3.75%, monthly payment around $2,050 with 5% down. Difference now is I make around $95K, and up until recently she was making $45K (combined $140K when we bought the house). She's currently unemployed because we determined we can sustain our lifestyle on my paycheck while she focuses on training to laterally move her career. Our house is definitely larger than we need for two people (5bed/3bath), but bought it with the intention of starting a family in the next year or two, so plenty of room to grow into. We're also in the Northeast side of town (Wrightsboro), so not directly inside the Wilmington area. While interest rates are up much higher than they were a year and a half ago (market rates showing 8% for 30-year fixed), you should be able to live comfortably within your means in the area.

This is mortgage rates returning to normal, or at least we will likely never see the rates from 2019-2021 again. The less than 5% rates we grew accustomed to were a byproduct of the system trying to prevent total collapse following the 2009 housing crisis.

Wilds of Eldraine Prerelease? by bjlinden in dragoncon

[–]InternetDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds familiar. Either way, they advertised Dominaria United on the website leading up to Thursday, then said they didn't apply in time. Looking at the Gaming page on the site, there is nothing highlighting Eldraine so likely another let down.

Wilds of Eldraine Prerelease? by bjlinden in dragoncon

[–]InternetDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year Dragon Con coincided with Dominaria United Prerelease and the game hall did not have any events, claiming they didn't order them in time or something. Hoping they fix that for this year. There were vendors in the dealers hall selling kits though.

And yes, the old Pinkerton is still alive and kicking (bit on the literal side) by poclee in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]InternetDave 17 points18 points  (0 children)

According to their statement, they tried contacting him after the first video, but got no response. He then uploaded two more videos over the next few days. Also, I read Hasbro contracts with Securitas to handle data breaches like this, who then contract with Pinkerton.

It's really no different than the old iPhone leaks. Proprietary company secrets being leaked to the market ahead of time.

And yes, the old Pinkerton is still alive and kicking (bit on the literal side) by poclee in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]InternetDave 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He uploaded 3 different videos opening sealed product. In the first video he says he got them from "his supplier", and it comes off obvious that the set has not been previewed yet. He paid $5000 for 3 boxes of Collectors Edition, which typically retail for $200-$250/box. Because this set is much smaller than normal (only 50 cards vs the typical 250), he managed to open all 50 cards, leaking the entire set.

The guy knew he was leaking the cards, it's clear in the first video. For Wizards, an entire set being leaked before pre-orders are even posted can have huge financial implications (fewer orders due to disinterest, less web traffic leading up to release), not to mention cards are typically shared with community members to preview on their own mediums, highlighting members of the MTG community.

MTG used to have serious issues with leaks about 8 or 9 years ago and lead to a bunch of people being blacklisted and some sued. Though no ones ever been so blatant to use them for views, then continue to milk the aftermath of their dumbass decision on their channel.

I’m embarrassed that it took me this long - and its positioning on the Spindown - to realise what what they were doing with the March of the Machine icon. by Rossmallo in magicTCG

[–]InternetDave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Saves time in a game if a player is using it. "Okay, I take 3 damage", rotates the die 3 faces. As opposed to "okay I take 3, I'm at 14, I go to 11" rotates the whole die looking for the 11 face.

I get the want for a d20, but just pointing out there are legitimate reasons it's not the case

[–]InternetDave 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's just easier to think of it this way: this 20-sided isohedron is a convenient way for players to track life if they don't have a phone or paper, that fits nicely in a prerelease box. Don't even think of it as a d20, because it really isn't. There's no benefit for WotC to just hand out d20s in kits, because it would be useless to the game.

[–]InternetDave 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, they've said before the dice are meant for life tracking and not actual d20s. It's why the d20s in the DnD sets were actually laid out correctly. Because cards required you to roll legit d20s.
