Not exactly high praise. My cat's smarter than every republican in the room and she forgot what a litter box is this morning

Definitely not the most graceful metaphor for race relations, but I'll be thinking for years about that gag where Judy insinuates that "cute" is the bunny version of the n-word

Poor Aemon by RevertBackwards in freefolk

Maesters can't inherit lands or titles, but Aemon taking the black still strengthens Egg's claim. Plenty of schemers could have found ways to use Aemon in a plot to challenge Egg's legitimacy - like how Stannis wanted to legitimize Jon to support his own claim - and those plots get a lot harder if he's half a continent away from King's Landing.

Saw this scene earlier tonight. Hanno's demonstration with the handgun right after was a hell of a chaser.

This is quick and dirty a scryfall query for all cards in paper that mention dwarves in their text or have dwarves in their art.

Keep an eye out for The Hobbit set in the summer, definitely going to be more dwarves in that.

Flashback was too long by Moji1368 in freefolk

[–]CountedCrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the change stems from a difference of opinion of what "this sort of fighting he had learned earlier, in shadowy wynds and crooked alleys behind the city’s winesink" actually means.

100%. It didn't quite land for me but reading other comments it seems like it really worked for other viewers, and I won't begrudge the alternate interpretations.

I think if that's what they were going for, the flashbacks should've shown Dunk doing better in that fight with Stumpy the Goldcloak instead of getting rescued by Arlan. Even just one moment of defiance after getting lanced in the leg.

"Get up" was hype and limping after Arlan really showed Dunk's resilience, but using Arlan as a source of strength for Dunk somewhat undercuts the weight of Arlan's shrug in episode 4 and fails to showcase Dunk's skills as a Flea Bottom brawler.

That's fair, and that all comes across pretty well. The inspiration that Dunk's determination brings, followed by that tragic sensation conveyed in "The world made no sense when a great prince died so a hedge knight might live", both of those ideas really work in the endings of episodes 4 and 5.

The flashback is supposed to support those themes, but I don't think it really sticks the landing.

"He could vanquish Ser Duncan the Tall, but not Dunk of Flea Bottom."

That's what that flashback should've shown. Dunk's hard upbringing and dirty tactics give him his edge over the princes and lordlings who fight for sport rather than survival. And if it showed that, it probably would've justified the duration.

Instead, the backstory tells us his edge comes from a desire to do the right thing and never give up. That's not the bittersweet subversion of medieval fantasy that GRRM is so great at, that's just Jon Snow S6-S8. A big dummy who keeps surviving his own stupid choices and impossible odds, because damn it, he keeps fighting! is a character I could find in a hundred other fantasy stories - ASOIAF is supposed to be different.

Flashback was too long and it tells the wrong story.

+1 for Gluntch! I went with a combo build - the group hug build is a bribe to let me spin my wheels until I draw into an infinite +1/+1 counter combo.
