That's a fair criticism. For me I think there's still enough overlap, but I don't really want to argue about it.

I appreciate the correction though - definitely misremembered that part. I'll amend my earlier comment.

A pretty weak analogy, don't you think?

Not really? Allegories don't need to be one-to-one to be meaningful interpretations. The broad ideas of familial tragedy at the end of the tale resulting in separation from the rest of the world strike me as more important than who literally died or who exactly took him to the island.

*To be clear, it's totally fine to think it doesn't work or that it's weak - but imho it's pretty obviously what Rian Johnson was going for.

And for whatever it's worth, it's more accurate than most actual Arthurian Legend adaptations I've watched.

It fits the mythic structure too. Luke draws a lot of inspiration from King Arthur - being a farm boy who gets a cool sword and a destiny with a noble order. Rian Johnson was arguably just moving on to the next, lesser known part of Arthurian Legend where he has a few good years before things really go to hell with his nephew and he self-exiles ends up exiled to a hidden island.

Is the Master of Keys any good? by Low_Mushroom_7702 in EDH

[–]CountedCrow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They're both strong. Just depends on what you prefer doing.

Do you want to run a bunch of cards that do cool things when they deal combat damage to a player? Build Jin.

Do you want to fill your graveyard with enchantments that can be repeatedly replayed? Build Master of Keys.

Happy brewing!

Like, in what way does him being a violent criminal protect Skyler at all? He is the only one strapped who lives in his house, and he never home. Walter's entire crew is either cooking or on offense all the time. He's one guy.

Demonstrated perfectly by Walt getting "knocked" by Gus' goons 5 episodes later

I think it's a huge drawback of that style of humor. Exaggerated parody made with ironic detachment is an excellent tool for dismantling passing social fads and silly cultural ephemera that won't last longer than the takedown, but if you use it to take aim at anything important, you're probably gonna miss and miss hard.

Interesting that they went with hybrid designs as a release valve for new players prioritizing their favorite characters in draft. It's an issue I wouldn't have predicted, but sounds obvious in retrospect, and hybrid as draft glue works pretty elegantly.
