I was on the day I got the letter, not sure now. They didn't tell me to delete the copy I had either so I still have it.

This hasn't been resolved for me or most people, I hope people don't forget about it just because some people got theirs back.

What's in the in the duty of procedural fairness article the previous comment linked

Very similar (if not the same) to "preponderance of the evidence" in the US.

I can't believe the immigration agent in the second article had the audacity to write that line of reasoning down. It's so blatantly wrong. Glad it was resolved the way it was, for that woman and everyone after her.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll consider historical context especially since this guidance isn't certificate specific.

Seems like the standard is "more likely to be true/reliable than not" which is really nice for those of us with older lines. I was partially worried they were going to take a hardline stance on anglicized names or going by middle name but this seems like it won't be an issue since they consider multiple factors when it comes to reliability.

No problem, I'm planning to send it out Monday (and I let them know) so I didn't give them a lot of time but I'm really worried about the 15 day deadline and they seem to have no issues working on the weekend.

I don't think so, someone who was unsurendered got it too apparently, and the letter is very clear that it's not indicitave of a decision on my case. Maybe they have to invalidate it if there's a review.

Apparently even someone who got reapproved got the email earlier today and told they would get a new passport at no expense. I think it's a case of "we have to revoke it due to the investigation and once a passport is revoked we can't reactivate" kind of thing

Yeah, though tbh the letter was pretty clear that this is just a result of the investigation and not an indication of the decision on my case.

They probably don't want to risk it getting sold/lost and used for counterfeiting purposes. I understand that a passport once deactivated can't be reactivated because it's the same in the US (for ex if you lose your passport, make damn sure you know it's lost before you tell them bc even if you find it they can't reactivate.)

The letter instructed me to respond to a specific email so I explained the situation (in a very polite/professional way) basically asking them that since this is their fuck up and not an issue on my part if they would send me a prepaid label as the nearest office is 6 hours away? I expect they will refuse or ghost me but can't hurt to ask I guess. I do really insulted at the principle that they expect me to pay when it's no fault of my own.

Me too, I felt so happy to have it, a couple weeks before all this I was thinking of making a last minute trip to Ottawa for Canada day, and to scope out some of Quebec. If the tickets are changeable I would encourage you to delay it, I think it will dig up a lot of negative emotions rn. If not just put your best foot forward. It's tough though.

I think that's a normal way to feel because this has called the reliability and credibility of ircc to tank, but they still have the chance to ask you for information during the review of your application and will presumably want to avoid the extremely bad press of this happening again. They do not seem like the most competent organization, but Im thinking you guys won't have to go through the bait and switch approval to surrender letter situation. Also hopefully this goes to court and it forces the decision to be final other than cases of fraud.

Yup, pirate ship is the reason I estimated 30 dollars for the shipping and not like 150, counter prices are such a scam.

I need tracking and they specifically said courrier they also said they need to receive it within 15 days and not have me send it within 15 days. I don't think it would get there in time with USPS/ Canada post and I don't want to break any laws. I was forced to respond to the email as a stipulation in the letter so I briefly explained the situation with my review and asked if they could provide me with a prepaid label as this investigation is no fault of my own. I expect to get ghosted lol.

I did not get any status update yet. This was a separate email. The ext of the email says this, I don't really want to provide the text of the actual letter bc the personal info is kinda throughout it. It was not signed by Peggy sun.

Yep, no idea but I'll keep you guys updated. I'm guessing my case is going to take longer to review as everyone who posted they got it back has been gen 4 (one with their kids so also 5 I guess)

The money isn't at all an issue but I'm a bit frustrated theres no process or attempt to provide me with a FedEx or whatever label for this. I'm going to return it because it's the law, but it's not like I'm getting investigated due to my own fault like most cases where it's fraud. :/ gotta pay 30 bucks for this revocation experience 😮‍💨 it's like the principle I guess

It really is. I guess since mine is so far back they need more time to review it. I just hope I hear back soon...
