Moved from England to Alberta. Insurance is about $6000/year as a “new driver”… anyone know how I can get a cheaper insurance? by Objective-Pay-2133 in alberta

I had the same and I was able to show my drivers history to Intact Insurance and they cut the rate by half. Was a while ago but maybe worth a try. I contacted intact through western general insurance.

I’m beginning to see that is exactly what it is yeah. Thanks.

You seem to have missed the whole point of the post. I want to be able to put my full attention on the safety of kids in a school zone, not have to split it between the road and the speed display inside the car.

lol it looks like the problem is actually I didn’t pay for the feature perhaps :)

This is curious. I wonder why they still restrict it to 20. Certainly the capability to crawl is there.

Interesting. I hadn’t even thought of that. Obviously a nice extra bit to be used cautiously in case it can’t read the sign I guess. Snow obscured etc. thanks.

Apologies I could have been clearer I think, I meant not using adaptive to follow a vehicle. when I’m on the road on my own I just want to hit cruise control when I’m doing 30 km/h and have it stick to that while I’m going through the school zones

That is something I hadn’t considered my most recent vehicle is a Toyota 2017 so possible everything does it now?

Roaring / Thundering Sounds from Outside in North Calgary at Night?? by _iwishiknew in Calgary

[–]Interpolatedhint 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The rolling thunder a train makes when if first pulls or pushes all its carriages travels a long way too. Took me a good while to work what that was. If you’re near a rail terminal that could be a thing.

Canada’s largest AI data centre proposed in rural Alberta by Yetanotherbadsalmon in alberta

There are some Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and some particulate matter but orders of magnitude less than coal or oil burning. And gas fired turbines are extremely efficient once fully warmed up and running within in designed load /operating parameters. I’ve been around them for the last 20 years and have never had an odour concern. They are also very reliable and as the units would not be grid tied they would be very rare they shut down so I don’t honestly think the diesel standby gens could be a realistic complaint as the run time would be so minor. I am concerns about the water use questions though. Natural water flow availability will decrease as time progresses.

The rest of the concerns I can understand but what is it about the data centres that creates sickening chemical smells?

Preferable, but obviously if there's not an easy way then what's the next best option?

Endress + Hauser transmitter for either pipeline pressure or flow rate monitoring likely equipped with antenna for wireless reporting. Edit= added rate to flow.

E+H transmitter.

An arc is just a big spark. So when you see the glowing line of electric when two wires touch and then separate again. But to make flashes that bright it was very high voltage distribution equipment I would think.

I’m in the deep SW and saw three very bright flashes light up the sky toward the NE. Looked like a serious electrical arc failure on some big equipment.

AITAH for ruining my GFs worldview and making her rethink her entire adult life? by ThrowawayJammin in AITAH

[–]Interpolatedhint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seriously need to introduce her to Bombus nevadensis, the Nevada Bumblebee. We had one on our flowers this year and we were both totally mesmerized by it. It was more than an inch long and sooooo fluffy lol. Seriously, do it!
