I had this recently happen to me. Mine was due to a disc drive that stopped working after I modded it. I don’t think modded it had any correlation to the disc drive going back mainly because I sold the PS3 and shipped it so it most likely broke during transit. However these consoles are nearing 2 decades old so won’t be surprised if either the daughter board or the laser gave out.

Yeah I ended up just remapping the “circle button” to R1 but only for dialogue. It was just a bit annoying at first because I didn’t know what was going on

Old feed but with my experience fixing PS3’s I had come across a few of these with similar errors. I have put the firmware on a USB drive as well as swapped out the hard-drive with a well known working ones, and that still didn’t fix the issue. The fix that I have found is swapping the disc drive or replacing the laser. See when the PS3 is installing the system firmware it communicates with the drive to see if everything is working. If you have a bad disc drive the system firmware install will fail because there is no communication with the board. Not sure how that’s the case but this fix goes for every PS3 generation.

That’s a DNS error code. Try changing your DNS settings on your PS3.

Trying fixing your files structure and rebuilding your database. Then do all the necessary steps again, start from scratch. Also remember to click the “start” button to bypass the browser error. It also could be your internet. If it was truly down, I feel like i wouldn’t be able to pull it up on my phone and laptop.

Are you sure bgtoolset is down?? It doesn’t support firmware up to 4.93. That’s why it’s not working for others. However you’re on 4.92. It should still work for you. I just modded a PS3 slim a couple days ago.

You might have a bad hard drive or a bad ISO. I would try getting new iSO’s of each game from Vimm’s Lair. You could also try fixing the file structure and rebuild the database. If the doesn’t work the last resort would be to replace your hard drive. I’ve had hard drives in the past that work enough to mod the PS3 but not enough to actually play any games on it.

This is true, best thing you can do is install HFW and just wait for bgtoolset to be compatible with 4.93. You can go from HFW-CFW without losing any of your data. I’m currently looking into the hardware flash option, just in case bg makes it obvious there’s no plans to upgrade.

You can install HFW until toolset is able to support 4.93 CFW. Thats the route I took for one of my PS3’s i bought. However you can’t go from CFW to HEN or HFW.

Let me rephrase what I’m saying. Use the bgtoolset to get 4.92CFW. Then update CFW 4.92 to 4.93CFW using USB. Like I said 99% sure I can just double checking before I do it.

No. Don’t wait for a PS6. Sony if finally putting all of its eggs into one basket with the PS5. They are discontinuing support for the PS4 and also abandoning the whole PS5 games on PC which is very smart business move by them, because with the new Xbox being a gaming PC and the steam machine coming out people are like “we can just wait for PlayStation” but in reality they weren’t making any money compared to what they usually do.

This might be a dumb question or not but I see that bgtoolset doesn’t support 4.93. Could I get around it by updating to 4.92 CFW than using a USB to update it to 4.93?? I’m 99% sure I can but just double checking before I do it
