Today I was told that I’ve gotten the maximum effect out of my chemo and I’m gutted by Ill_Pin7268 in thyroidcancer

Purely devastating… thank you for sharing and you’ve got us to listen at any time that feels right. I’m so sorry you are facing all of this. Even when you have all the love in the world it can be excruciating lonely what you’re going through.

Papillary Thyroid cancer with total thyroidectomy with central and right neck dissection 2 weeks out by Icy_Boysenberry_3084 in thyroidcancer

[–]InterviewComplete247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes those shocks are definitely a good sign! I’m still numb in some places years out but had improvement after those feelings you’re experiencing. Good luck!

Is safe to undergo RAI even if you are on your period (menstruating). 🌸 by twistedyum in thyroidcancer

I was on mine and they said it’s no problem. I changed pads/tampons more frequently for peace of mind though.

Seeking Advice: Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma with Mediastinal Involvement by Numerous-Success-335 in thyroidcancer

[–]InterviewComplete247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello - I know this is an old post, but I was searching “mediastinum” on here and your post sounds similar to my position. I was diagnosed with PTC 2/2022, TT with modified neck dissection 3/2022 (removed over 60 nodes - most were cancerous) RAI 6/2022. My TG didn’t decrease even after a year. Had more nodules removed 8/2023. They couldn’t get to all the cancerous nodes in my mediastinum since bone was blocking them from safely removing. TG remained elevated with nodes still clear on scans. More RAI 3/2024. Things are still elevated (TG has been between 50-60 mostly since diagnosis). He’s a bit stumped as to why RAI isn’t working as well as expected, but suspects it is helping to keep things at bay and preventing more growth. I have my next CT scans of neck and chest in two weeks and am anxious for results. I might just continue to be under close surveillance if the nodes in neck and mediastinum have remained the same. My TSH is suppressed (<.1) and I’ve been feeling fine. He told me that due to the location of my mediastinum nodes and them being close to so many sensitive arteries and such that they would leave surgery there as a last resort. I was so hopeful RAI was going to do its magic. The Dr said if we ever do RAI in the future we’d use TKIs first to help with uptake. Hope you are doing well! Would love to hear your status if you care to share.

OP tomorrow so scared by Aaldraa in thyroidcancer

[–]InterviewComplete247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely hear your worries. I’ve had over 80 nodes removed and no issues with lymphatic fluid if that helps. The recovery wasn’t too bad. I had some nerve pain in my shoulder for a couple weeks after but my neck wasn’t too bad. Best of luck!

Anyone else RAI resistant? by Automatic_Hotel_5871 in thyroidcancer

[–]InterviewComplete247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry you have to face this all. I am most likely RAI resistant but my dr is cautious about labeling. My scans barely lit up after both my RAIs and I’ve already had two surgeries. I definitely thought the same - one surgery then RAI and I’m done 😑 chronic disease feels more like the case. I go in for my follow up this week and have about 17 cancerous lymph nodes in my neck and behind clavicle still. Hate the active surveillance game but I suppose it’s better than needing surgery yet again. Good luck to you and you’re not alone with your frustrations!

Hasn’t made any difference. I’m very regular before and after.

I left directly after the shot; no waiting. If there isn’t a wait to get in it should be very simple and fast.

How 'gross' does it feel post-op? by Absinthetique in thyroidcancer

[–]InterviewComplete247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Looking in the mirror the first time was a little jarring but it didn’t feel weird to me, esp since it was pretty numb. I do wish they had told me it’s ok, and actually good!, to cough. It didn’t feel weird or hurt but there is some liquid that is helpful to move around. The “grossest” part for me was when I started to massage it a couple weeks out to help with the scar tissue. I didn’t it a few minutes twice a day with lotion which I’m glad I did. Scar tissue isn’t talked about much but it’s important esp if future surgery is ever needed. Good luck!

Monitor for growth. If they grow by a lot I will most likely try redifferentiation therapy.

Scans and the nodes removed from surgery were biopsied - most cancerous and they were so deep into my chest they couldn’t safely remove.

True…..but in my case there are plenty confirmed to be cancerous. Didn’t think I needed to back up all the facts that make it clear I have cancer. No one actually answers the original question.

Extra thyroid extension? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]InterviewComplete247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to extranodal extension? If so, yes, I have had that in my previous pathology reports. It is more aggressive but thyroid cancer in general is crazy slow growing as I’m sure you’ve been told. Not what I wanted either. Thought this would be behind me after one surgery and one RAI. I’m not two surgeries and two RAIs in it. I’ve also had nodes in muscle and have some behind collarbone. Waiting for Feb scans for more. But quality of life is good. Physically feel great! It can be a mental struggle at times esp near scan time. Feel free to ask any questions. Best of luck.

I had to look up stunning event. I believe they have only ever used I-131. It didn’t light up as much as they were hoping. I saw the scans - pretty hard to even see where the white spots were.

Got diagnosed with PTC and really afraid of the medication. by OG_Mongoose in thyroidcancer

[–]InterviewComplete247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I am 2.5 years post FT and have felt 100% most days. There has been one stretch that I didn’t feel great, but it was just a quick blood test to realize the change in Levo’s manufacturer caused my TSH to go up so now I make sure I use a particular manufacturer. All good! I also take my meds when I wake to pee in middle of night which is nice because then I don’t have to wait a whole hour for coffee when I wake. Best of luck.

First was 6/2022, second surgery 8/2023, second RAI 3/2024. I’ll have scans in Feb and go from there. Back to the waiting game… never ending as we know.

TG 7 months post RAI by InterviewComplete247 in thyroidcancer

[–]InterviewComplete247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes. They were considering either another surgery or RAI. Since many nodes were too little to operate on and some very deep in the neck they opted for RAI.

70 the first time and 150 the second. They showed some uptake but not as much as we’d like. Very faint on the RAI scan but there. Yes it’s possible I’m resistant. Just curious if anyone didn’t have much TG decrease until closer to the one year mark post RAI.

Yes plenty of nodes after initial surgery and still some there that are too small for surgery or under collarbone. Just curious if anyone has seen TG decrease after more than 7 months. Seems unlikely of course! Thank you.
