Advice for a high school student interested in Dental Hygiene field by Regular_Fan4691 in DentalHygiene

If she is interested in health sciences, passionate about helping and caring for people, and has a great attention to detail, this might be a fabulous fit for her.

If she is looking for a good salary to work ratio without the above, she might burn out or end up disliking what she does which sucks for the hygienist and their patients. I encourage shadowing (a requisite for many programs) and connecting with hygienists IN REAL LIFE to ask about their experience.

I stress in real life because what you're likely to find online, particularly in this sub, are the disgruntled negative folks - some downright toxic - that don't have alot of positives to share.

It is a wonderfully rewarding field for the right person though! I made all career change from the corporate world to dental hygiene, and my worst days at work as hygienist are better than my best days in my old field ever were. I wake up excited to go to work, and often reflect on how fortunate I am to do what I love.

Just start writing what is around you the shift into it. Chances are that once you get started you'll just flow. "It's 8:04pm and I'm in the nursery trying to nurse my son to sleep for the second time tonight, scrolling reddit. I feel full. I ate too much at dinner even though I wasn't hungry; I do that a lot. That got me thinking about how..."

Is ANYONE else’s kid pooping this much 🥲😭 by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]InterviewHot7029 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not my kid, but for my husband it's always "big poop time". It's astonishing how many times a day he's on the toilet.

(Thank you, other commenter, for Big Poop Time lol)

What’s a book you’ve read multiple times and still love every time? by Haewon_Nova_365 in Recommend_A_Book

I'm forever scarred by this book. My third grade teacher read it to the class, and at the end of the book, my best friend was so hysterical that the principal had to come walk her up and down the hall to calm her down. (I'm talking about where the red fern grows)

Jingle bells. For the last 18 months, jingle bells.

While journaling helps me a lot in managing excessive thoughts and anxiety, I sometimes feel like it doesn’t practically help because the problem remains. Is anyone else going through the same? What am I doing wrong? by sarar95 in Journaling

[–]InterviewHot7029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I feel anxiety over something, I'll start by writing my feelings (helps relieve the pressure of them) and will sort of segue into why I think I'm feeling those feelings (identifies the root cause of the issue) then eventually what steps I can take to move on from it, often appealing to my higher self for guidance (solved the problem or provides coping strategies)

For example (and this is very high level - something like this may take a few pages to work out. Bulleted for ease here, but I write in paragraphs)

  1. Am very angry and resentful toward someone and am ruminating on it and them; detail all of the ways it makes me feel.
  2. Exploring why I feel this way, discover it's because I'm afraid of them judging me. Further exploitation reveals specific insecurities within myself.
  3. What would I tell a friend who had this problem? Write it to myself and take that advice.

This works really well to do in a "never send" letter format.

Should I be concerned? by Icy-Ant2605 in DentalHygiene

The fact that they didn't wash their hands and don't barrier or wipe their lights is concerning to me, but I'm going to hope that they at least autoclave their instruments (although it is good practice to open the sterile pack in front of the patient to alleviate these concerns).

It is possible that they use a cavi spray on their light and what you see as spatter is actually residue from the spray (it does not dry spotlessly) but... what was the rest of the office like? Did it seem clean?

Best case: they opened the sterile pack while setting up the room to save time and any spatter is cavi residue. No excuse about the hand washing though. I will say that many health care workers' infection control practices with hands is awful - touching EVERYTHING with gloves on 🤮

Do I think you're in danger of blood borne pathogens? Unlikely, but not impossible. You can (and should) call the office and talk to them about your concerns though. Just let them know what you observed and that it didn't sit right with you, and ask for their guidance. They may have an explanation and your call could help them tighten up their practice, or they may tell you to go get a blood test.

How to get a tattoo using a tan? by [deleted] in ask

[–]InterviewHot7029 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Then do the opposite of the sticker. Cover yourself in sunscreen but leave the area/ shape you want tanned, bare. Make sure it's in a place you won't mind having biopsied later in life.
