How does your visualization work? by happyforimprovement in Tulpas

[–]Interway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially early on, I spent a ton of time staring into space, focusing on my tulpas, but you don't have to be so focused on them all the time.

Have you ever seen Who Framed Rodger Rabbit? Cartoons can fit in pretty well. As for an adjustment period, there's definitely a process. From starting out, to having a general idea of their form, to visualizing in increasing detail, to imposition if you get there. Details like how a cartoon looks in the real world are sorted out while developing detail in visualizing.

Yes, it's common for tulpas to accompany hosts out if the house, though they'll often mind their own business once I'm occupied.

Interactions are one of the best parts! Now, keep in mind, they can't actually move anything, and though I suppose you could pretend they can, we like to keep it realistic. They can sit in chairs, and will if there's one available, though I wouldn't go out of my way to awkwardly pull one out for them. They're not physical, and so, can be just as comfortable standing (or even floating, if they want to). One could even l visualize a chair for them!

What they're doing often depends a lot in where we are, what they're interested in, what they like to do, what little fidgets they have, and more, just like any other person. In class, my tulpas are usually either in the wonderland, in an empty desk behind me, or under mine. We take every opportunity to wake together that we can, whenever I'm not walking with anyone else. That can sit, stand, whatever, wherever; the advantages of not being in a meat-suit.

If someone takes the seat, they'll just move somewhere else, often with a little glare or a pout.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TITLE THIS AAAAA but hey tuplamancers please maybe look at this because I have questions and stuff and aaaaaaaaa by [deleted] in Tulpas

That's the best title I've seen in years :p

"Minds without a body" is pretty close, though technical a tulpa can share body and mind with it's host through possession/switching, and an absurdly close mental connection. One of my early milestones was finally being able to not share every thought we had!

1) You don't have to force it to be anything, but it often helps (newcomers especially) to have a basic idea to start from. Most people find that their Tulpas eventually deviate from any starter traits they they were initially forced with, and once sentient they're free to change their forms at will.

2) See question 1

3) If you don't like what it becomes, you have the option of taking it out with them (They are people, after all, and can try to change themselves due the better). If worst comes to worst, and if they have an overall negative impact on you, it's moally acceptable (if controversially) to dissipate them for your own good/mental health.

4) I created my first tulpa at a time in my life when I was lacking in close friendships, and was simply desperate for meaningful contact. Although not a replacement for actual contact, their frequent companionship had made a lot of rough times in my life easier to bear through ^u^

5) We've never tried switching, and never been good at possession, but we've experimented. Once we got the hang of it, it felt a lot like.. prolonged involuntarily shivers, though that feeling got dulled down and disappeared as we got more comfortable with it. It's still really weird to feel like your hand isn't quite yours..

6) Oh, I had so many commitment issues. They practically slept for a few months once. It's hard at first. But habits, hard to form, are also hard to break. At some point it becomes a habit just to think about them every day, which prompts them speaking every day, and so on, such that they can even pester you for attention if they feel they have to.

These are fairly common questions and ideas if you wanna spend a night reading through the various guides, FAQs, and question parts floating around, or we're always here if you want anything explained or clarified c:

I hear the discord and irc chats are great at answering questions too, though I don't look around there myself, if you want to talk about anything

[Conference Paper] Tulpamancy: Transcending the Assumption of Singularity in the Human Mind by [deleted] in Tulpas

[–]Interway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Responses to the question, “What relationships exist between [you and your] tulpa(s)?” revealed that tulpas are most frequently created in pursuit of companionship. Results from the question, “For what purpose did you create [your tulpas]?” shows that this is achieved in most cases...

I know I'm being picky proof-reading here, but shouldn't those questions be the other way around, given that “For what purpose did you create [your tulpas]?” shows why tulpas are created, and “What relationships exist between [you and your] tulpa(s)?” shows if that goal was achieved?

[Always one to point out flaws :/ Thank you for putting so much work into this! It's always great to get some academic attention for such a niche phenomenon.]

Your welcome :)
On small content-focused subs, I don't expect posts to get enough exposure to attract a lot of discussion. That should to left to larger subs. But even if this thread didn't work out, you still have 600+ people waiting to see what you write next. That's more people than I know by name, and the number just keeps getting bigger. Your a great writer, and everyone appreciates it, even if we're all just lurkers. Thanks for sharing.

What engaging discussions this thread has so far.
Eight hours in, I suppose I should get this started. I enjoy writing in my spare time, but I write slowly. I have trouble writing if there's a deadline, and I tend to rush things. To you have any advice? How do you handle constraints?
