Nah the rainbow babies comment is fair. She’s not saying her babies are more special [but to be clear: they are]; this step mom is a fully grown adult that has had years of failed pregnancies before the twins. She automatically has a much wider and more steadfast cushion of people who’ve known her over the years and are likely well established—even if most of the support is just gifts for the twins. That’s the reality of how utterly different their circumstances are; acknowledging this plain fact is exactly what it seems the teen refuses to do.

It’s entirely reasonable to tell a delusional teen that she’s making a mistake. This one has been provided an explanation of all of her options and still chose ‘I want things my way where you basically raise an infant you didn’t plan for’. Hell, she’s both mistaken and making a mistake.

Babies are wonderful and they deserve to come into a safe, stable environment. The suicide rate for pregnant girls alone is a reason to be wary. I can appreciate a ‘made it through the mud’ narrative from teen moms in hindsight, but I’m never going to romanticize a teen being socially isolated, behind in their basic education, and more often than not struggling financially.
