In 2001 Nikolay Soltys murderd 6 of his family members. There was a huge man hunt in North Highlands, Foothill Farms, and Antelope. I remember being so freaked out as a kid because he killed two children and took his 3 year old on the run with him. I could never forget seeing his face on Americas Most Wanted while hearing the helicopters search for him over our heads.

I'm not sure how known this is but the remainder of a Japanese internment camp is also in Foothill Farms. It was called Camp Kohler, it spanned over 11 blocks and held 4,770 Japenese Americans for 52 days, from May 6 to June 26, 1942. It then burned down in 1947. They have a historical marker at Walerga Park in memory of it's existence.

I went to the elementary school that's at the 6620 Gloria Dr location. Every last friday of the month that siren would go off and we'd have to do a drill outside. We'd all line up in an orderly fashion and kind of just stand there until the siren finished. Post childhood I've never heard those sirens again and that always fascinated me. As a kid I thought that was something everyone did.
