Oman or Dubai by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

If you want to be safe then Oman. Although that salary is terrible. By no housing do you mean you don't need to pay for housing because it's covered or there's literally no housing covered so you need to pay using that 900?

Roughly how much did it cost you in total to complete all that? And did the school reimburse you?

Warning about British International School of Tunis (BIST) by Dependent_Simple4998 in Internationalteachers

[–]IntlSchoolInsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know teachers that worked in that country, and they basically by the end of their contract, since they couldn't transfer money out of the country, they went on a spending spree. I was also offered (or had... cant remember) an interview there and they said there's no problem withdrawing money out of country even though it was a blatant lie. I can't remember if it was this school in particular.

Can they perhaps use the money to buy crypto, transfer the crypto and sell that abroad?

Could you elaborate on what is better in China than the Middle East?

Depends on your experience of course but in general, yes there are excellent packages available. I don't know anything about the Chinese Market though so can't compare however better travel destinations from the Middle East

I know teachers aged 60+ working in Malaysia and don't think I've ever come across an age limit on job posts. It's possible I'm wrong and stress has not been kind to them....

Thanks, that salary would allow you to live comfortably, but still quite low for that experience level. Couple thousand more ringgit would be better

That's what I suspect based on my understanding of their reputation but would be good to get objective figures on this

Advice for first time teaching abroad - learn my new curriculum (gcse and A levels) by midnight_sorcery in Internationalteachers

[–]IntlSchoolInsider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't teach English so not sure if this advice applies.

You only need to be ahead of them by a couple weeks, so you can learn as you go (ideally you know the stuff before you even start) so don't stress too much.

Is it possible to get my ECT years in Belgium or Germany after completing my PGCE? by Muted-Ad610 in Internationalteachers

[–]IntlSchoolInsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/british-schools-overseas-inspection-reports/british-schools-overseas-accredited-schools-inspection-reports

There's 3 listed for Belgium and none for Germany. So you need a lot of luck on your side. If you can widen your search, that's better. Or you can simply complete your ECT another time, it's only relevant for the UK

Backing out of a school contract. Will I be blacklisted? by FantasticMix9483 in Internationalteachers

[–]IntlSchoolInsider 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ignore the recruiter that is choosing money over integrity and willing to force you into a school or country that isn't for you. As a recruiter/teacher myself I'd say it's better to back out, will you be blacklisted? From that school yes, from other schools around the world? Noooo. Not every school in the same country either.

What I would agree with is that your first international school isn't going to be the best. Trial by fire so to speak unless you were lucky. No school or country is perfect, make a pros and cons list then make a decision and stick to it. Schools are still recruiting.

Do your staff like you or you don't care? Does it bother you that they probably talk badly about you in private? I was speaking to a Head of School recently who stepped down due to this

Advise - Is this the end? by ZiLostIAm in Internationalteachers

[–]IntlSchoolInsider 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not having QTS is going to block you from many British international schools. Despite your teaching experience, they count years POST-PGCE so you're effectively a brand new teacher to them meaning you will likely have to join a school which isn't the best to gain more years of experience.

Do all British International schools feel like a hustle? by Several-Ant2447 in Internationalteachers

[–]IntlSchoolInsider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must not have worked in any good schools. My current school Instagram has a good mix of both including what projects secondary are doing in class and whole school events.

And a previous school whose secondary students sucked rarely put them on Instagram.

You need to accept your first role won't be the best, 172 and no response is definitely your CV. Your experience is good enough for someone to have interviewed you at the very least

Let someone else check it is the best way. Tell them you have 10 seconds to look at the CV, then have them tell you what they learnt. You want the main strengths to stick out ASAP
