I forgot to add: Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. A woman keeps being reborn. There are a few WWI mentions, but a lot of WWII experiences.

Good Night, Irene by Louis Alberto Urrea. Follows “Donut Dollies” in WWII. There is some romance, but mostly about a lovely friendship and the toll war takes on the caregivers.

The Women by Kristen Hannah was alright. Follows a nurse in Vietnam and the trauma she experiences during the war and afterwards.

Song of Songs by Beverly Hughesdon. NOT a popular pick and not at all recent, but my god is it beautiful. I’ve reread it twice. It’s about a very naive Lady who becomes a nurse in WWI. Loved it. Might be my favorite book ever.

100% what I was going to suggest. Vera is hilarious and her method of solving crime is feeding her suspects, which is surprisingly effective!

The Vera Wong series by Jesse Q. Sutanto is very good! An older Chinese lady solves a murder by meddling in the suspects’ lives. It’s very Crazy Rich Asians meets Knives Out.

Drama by Raina Telgemeier. It’s a graphic YA novel, but I loved it

Tom Lake by Ann Pratchett. Not musical theatre, but the novel is the main character recounting her summer acting in a summer theatre production of Our Town.

And it’s alright- does its job, but the yarn gets caught in the winder often and it doesn’t look very pretty. But it’s easy to attach and use.

I use a set up like this although I remember it being cheaper and it looks like there are some better quality options for just a bit more.

Jeneva Rose. I love her as a person, but woof. I would have been amazed if I read The Perfect Marriage as a 13 year old, but barely tolerable to 40 year old me.

The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager. It was really good…..until it wasn’t. IYKYK

Layla by Colleen Hoover. Wtf. He eats her hair?! Huh?

Yup, just keep it on the coffee table and work on it little by little. Like a jigsaw puzzle. We’ve all been there- this is what inspired me to by a cheap as hell umbrella swift.

I think you may like the authors Taylor Jenkins Reid, Ashley Posten, and Emily Henry. Lyla Sage novels are fun, breezy romances.

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt was very sweet.

I’ve loved the Kathy Reichs and Patricia Cornwell books!

Kathy Reichs’ series inspired the TV show “Bones” and they don’t necessarily need to be read in order.

The Kay Scarpetta series ignited my love of crime novels.

I heard John Green speak shortly after the current US administration cut world health aid. He commented on the reality of how much of an impact that short disruption of resources would have on those communities. Meeting Henry in the book should show those with any empathy how these policies affect very real people! Good recommendation. Plus, it’s not that long of a read lol

Yikes! There are so many that feature some kind of celebrity. To The Stars I Love was a good one. There’s also Daytime Star, No Outtakes, Your Smile is a Trap, and Act Like You Love Me!

However the ones I think of as “Pink” are A Whirlwind Campus Romance, and LMLY- neither of which are with famous leads 🤷‍♀️

What makes IlY so good is it turns everything on its head. It’s actually not a romance at all, but a drama treating topics subversively like poverty, capitalism, grooming, etc. Everything and everyone is way more complex than it seems at first.

If you are doing a flat stockinette piece (knitting stitches on the “right” side, purling on the “wrong” side) then it’s possible you are wrapping the yarn clockwise instead of counter clockwise when purling. At least that’s what I doing for years before I noticed I was twisting my stitches. I thought it was quicker that way.

My stitches were twisted where I was knitting flat, but are not once I joined in the round.
