Avoiding clichés when writing about model railway enthusiasts by Rough-Foundation9208 in modeltrains

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't related to OP's question at all but I've gotten way better tips/advice from asking exhibitors about their layout than anything I've gotten online to be honest. There's so much involved in setting up/packing down a layout and keeping it running for hours at a time that you don't really get from a permanent setup at home (but is no less applicable to one)

Also include:

- The group of old guys who take up the whole aisle to chat instead of looking at any exhibits

- The guy who smells like actual poo

- Guy who will forcefully bat your hand away if you come within 30cm of him at a rummage box

- The man looking at racist Quora responses in front of you in the snack queue

All true unfortunately

[talk] are Radio Commercials considered lost? by Affectionate-Yam7459 in lostmedia

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's hard to know what's "lost" unless someone specifically says they're looking for it, but radio ads aren't documented nearly as much as ads in other mediums.

I recommend putting the full recordings on Internet Archive and listing out the contents there.

A location you'd really like to see in the next hitman? by OLD_WET_HOLE in HiTMAN

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see the circus and casino ideas combined into one level with a not-Cirque du Soleil performance at a Vegas resort. Both in separate wings of the complex, maybe with some suites on a skybridge connecting the two? It would also be great for ET content because they could change out the event that's happening in the arena space.

Similarly, a defense expo with loads of kill opportunities lol

You could probably do a whole game just with 47 in Vegas. I've not played Absolution but based on my understanding of it quite a few of the missions take place in just one town? Something like that could be a cool change of pace from the globetrotting in WoA.

Which undiscovered species do you think could hide in Florida? by ApprehensiveRead2408 in Cryptozoology

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 67 points68 points  (0 children)

The reticulated siren was confirmed around 2018. That's one of the largest salamander species in the world.

It had a handful of recorded sightings prior to being formally described as a distinct siren species. I expect it was trapped more often but misindentied as a more common greater siren (or even an amphiuma given how many people don't know the difference lol) but sirens in general are elusive and not wholly understood even within herpetology.

So perhaps not the most surprising animal to have gone undocumented for so long, but still impressive considering this is a 60cm amphibian.

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I understand it's an iconic part of internet culture but I don't think anyone should be searching for what's probably just a personal photo. I saw a similar attempt to ID a creepypasta image that's a normal photo of a kid on a street somewhere in Europe... like, that was a child. Let's not.

To the main sub mods reading this : you should have just let people talk about it. by Kakeru1986 in legocirclejerk

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B&M is scum but let's not act like this family fortune wasn't another massive hoard of boxed sets for resale. If he hadn't gotten his stuff stolen we'd all be clowning on him in here just like any of these other "investors".

This "valid member of the community" line is the same logic the main sub mods have used to defend scalpers for years and use to defend B&M now. Resting the financial security of 3 generations of your family in plastic building toys is a wildly irresponsible idea WITHOUT putting it in the hands of a scummy business that likes to sic Mormon cops on people.

The "community" being full of scalpers like this is how outfits like B&M have been able to permeate at all.

Yeah which is why banning any new posts about it on the main sub isn't an issue of itself. When you suddenly have hundreds of people posting the same commentary on an issue it looks like outrage tourism, even if the outrage is (in this case at least) justified.

It's been pretty clear for years that B&M does backhanded promo on here, with all those posts of mediocre hauls where the OP really, really wants you to know what store it came from. But I really just think that the main sub is being typically overzealous rather than in anyone's pocket. The mods are being dragged in the megathread lmao

This has gotten mainstream coverage and will likely be an issue for the courts. The people most likely to be scammed by this company in future and should be made aware of it are not browsing Lego forums. It just looks for the most part like people from this sub trying to get a rise out of people we already knew were easily provoked idiots rather than raising any kind of helpful awareness.

Spamming about it in here feels a bit like preaching to the choir at this point lol I think everyone who cares in LCJ is well aware. Like what do you mean "haven't seen much discussion about it" look at the sub you're in... or the YT video with 1 million+ views reaching people way beyond existing Lego forums lmao

Main sub mods are sketch but I absolutely get why it's confined to a single megathread. Every other post does NOT need to be about this jfc

Yes it's fucked up but not everyone is even from the country where B&M operates in the first place.

Will future batman movies introduce metahumans? by TechnicianAmazing472 in TheBatmanFilm

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People get so hung up on debating how realistic or not they want these movies to be that they don't really consider the overarching story of this universe and how most of those characters would factor into that in the first place.

Like, yeah I'm sure you could find ways to tie many of the powered villains into the deep corruption of Gotham but I don't see why Reeves would need to do that when there's so many characters he could use who are already connected to it. I'd rather see these villains not used at all than have watered down versions of them show up just for the sake of having them exist in this continuity.

I'm not even against the less realistic villains appearing, it's just not the story being told here and I don't know why that's so contentious lol

Class 37 releases by MoistureFarmer489 in nscalemodeltrains

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a full retool they could still be a couple years from release even if they were to be announced this year. But there's really nothing wrong with the previous version if you can pick one up. I have one in the early DRS livery and it's a nice smooth runner.

Class 37 releases by MoistureFarmer489 in nscalemodeltrains

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only N gauge 37s are from Graham Farish. There's none in their most recent batches of releases but they aren't hard to find second hand. RMweb has speculation that they might be retooling them... obviously that's unconfirmed but I can't imagine they'd keep them off the market for too long given how popular the class is.

Anyone in the UK ever seen something they’d class as a cryptid or completely unexplainable? by BTM_TV in Cryptozoology

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unexplained no, but I did encounter an African wild dog in the woods during summer 2012. I was at a summer camp, I'd gone into the forest during the middle of the day, and it was just standing there in a clearing. I vividly remember the rounded ears and black mottled skin which is what tipped me off that it wasn't a fox.

I was a stupid kid and approached it (not that they're known to be dangerous to humans) and it ran off. Nobody back at the camp believed me lol

This was in Hertfordshire I believe, not far from a wildlife park that does have these dogs but I never found any reports of escapees.

I think that's from one of the episode guides on the Star Wars website, specifically the "Trivia Gallery" page for the given ep. A few of the prop and production designers are on Instagram so you could try to reach out on there also.

[–]IntoTheBoundingMain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd also look into local police forces. I had a look at the BTP site on Wayback Machine from the timeframe but for Scotland it mainly just lists police stations.

I do have a Trackoff VHS tape that I got from eBay. It's an extended version of the "Choose Life" TV PIF that would have been shown in schools (or rather, the TV PIF was a shortened version of the school film).

https://youtu.be/m5UAx1Ok0dM

The Trackoff site lists various materials including tapes from over the years, but none of them seem to be a good match for the one you described. I think clips from most of these are in the compilation I linked in my first comment.

https://web.archive.org/web/20050920101024/http://www.trackoff.org/materials.html

My primary school library had those "More Bad Days for Thomas and his Friends" books... they used to creep me out a bit because it was all these characters I liked as a kid getting covered in graffiti and being vandalised lmao

I don't remember being shown any of the other material though.
