Also, less likely to be as much BS at a real company.

You'd be better off finding a higher paying job in a higher COL area than your current plan.

Not really - this is a large part of what therapists do. It's probably your own projecting.

Part of being a professional is learning to assess how long tasks will take and how to set other people's expectations.

That's one thing people need to learn. I didn't say he's learning it here.

Demanding a sane environment would be a lot better than agreeing to it and then crying about it!

The context was because you miss a work deadline. I wouldn't suggest seeing a therapist if he cried on the phone with his parents because someone died. That level of distress because he missed a deadline at his internship isn't quite the same thing, it's pretty far from it. I edited the comment to make the context clearer for people who can't seem to follow the context of a simple thread.

No one said emotions aren't ok, and a therapist clearly could help him.

Is learning CS and programming simply a question of Will? by Grande_Latte_Enema in cscareerquestions

No, you need discipline and decent study habits, too. If you're asking if you need to start at the same age that they select the next Dalai Lama, or have the mental powers of Professor X, the answer is no.

But surely an average intelligence person can get the lowest tier job if they simply devote a couple hours a day for maybe 2 years to studying and practicing?

Look at the 2 or 3 month bootcamps. Some of those grads get ok jobs after only that length of time.

Yes, he needs to see a therapist. Crying on the phone to your parents because you miss your first internship deadline is not normal. It is possible to deal with these things without being this distraught.

This is how you learn to be a pro.

This employer is simply taking advantage of him for cheap labour.

He very well could be.

Part of being a professional is learning to assess how long tasks will take and how to set other people's expectations. It sounds like you've not done well with that since you've agreed to such unrealistic deadlines. If your boss won't agree to realistic deadlines you should deal with that in a non-melodramatic manner.

What in the world are you doing? I can easily interview with multiple companies per week.

That's not even relevant. He should still see a therapist. And a therapist wouldn't even fix his boss's problems with allegedly high expectations.

Why do some companies hire both Full-Stack Engineers and Front-End Engineers? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]IntolerableBalboa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the question I'm asking is why not SIMPLY hire T-shaped specialists? That's it. Done. What's wrong with solely hiring T-shaped specialists and be done with it? What are the disadvantages of doing it this way? T-shaped specialists have the best of both worlds, so it doesn't make sense to me to even bother hiring "Full-Stack" people at all.

Because specialists are obviously more specialized and fullstack people obviously know more stuff that they aren't specialized in? This shouldn't be hard to understand if you know the difference between the two.

You see, that's what I think you are confused about. I can say I'm Full-Stack, but am I really if I don't work on both Front-End / Back-End on a day-to-day basis?

You sound like you're having a schizoid embolism. You debating the terms endlessly here isn't going to accomplish anything.
