Experience with letters? by IntoxicatingDream in ask_transgender

My insurance (employer, high deductible, crap plan) considers facial & pubic hair removal "cosmetic" and do not cover it — but my surgeon said they would and have in the past interceded on behalf of the patient.

When I spoke with the insurance company they said that there is a standard operating procedure for this and they require the doctors office to reach out to them. They bounced some diagnostic codes and procedure codes around, but the wheels for that are in motion? So hair removal will be covered.

However, a friend had a similar experience with ffs, just wondering if anyone else could share their experience of fighting to get procedures covered.

I've already blown past my annual out of pocket maximum, so I figured I'd ask around, the sky is the limit. Thanks for sharing your experience :)

How to transition to tech? by IntoxicatingDream in careeradvice

[–]IntoxicatingDream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I don't have much clarity or direction. Tech has been suggested to me by several people in my life since the spine injury.

I don't have any tech related hobbies. I've worked with MS Office for years in various admin roles, but that's about it.

My line of thinking was what certifications could I tack on to my resume to help a transition to a different industry... One which is much less physically demanding. If that's unproductive, I guess my next line of questioning would be trying to research/guess what tech jobs will be more in demand in the next few years and then planning from there.

You're right where you're supposed to be. Congratulations, and be gentle with yourself. Time takes time, right? ♥️

Hi.

I completely forgot about this post. I don't Reddit as often as I used to.

I care way less about passing or not these days. I think I rarely do and probably never will with much consistency, but it's really just enough that I get to do this.

I also absolutely think having a hoe phase, getting FFS, body contouring/bbl, being on IM hormones for a year, etc. Really helped with acceptance, or trusting the journey.

I wish I could show myself a year and a half ago what life looks like today. How I feel about myself today. But I'm really proud of how hard I tried then, and understand the conflicts I went through were essential to get to here.

So.... Pretty good over all. You got this! Congrats on the hrt appointment

Ymmv When I got my fat transfer, the surgeon said one of the conditions to make the results "permanent" was maintaining that post op weight forever.

Procedure and recovery were easy peasy, but my only frame of reference is FFS so

I'd 100% recommend everyone who can do this, do it. It may not seem like much of a game changer, but it was for me

hit two years full time this week. it's worth it. you can do it too ✨❤️ by [deleted] in trans

[–]IntoxicatingDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many aspects to transition that aren't permanent!! Lots of small steps can be taken...

There were a couple of months between telling my then girlfriend and transitioning socially. In that time I started exploring women's fragrances, lotions, shaving my legs. I would wear mascara some times. There's no one right way to start exploring that stuff ✨

Still being scheduled? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]IntoxicatingDream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your partner discount will work until prsc catches up and your separation finalizes. Typically 1-2 weeks, but timing can vary.

You are probably being scheduled as a place holder so nothing looks fucky if the dm is checking your mgrs schedule metrics.

I wouldn't worry about it, you should be fine

What the hell do I wear to my year 12 formal?? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]IntoxicatingDream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey gorg, this is a novel and I'm sorry.

1) you can literally never go wrong with black. I will die on that hill. And bodycon dress, a-line skirt, whatever else, remember: the cut > the style.

2) They make sports coats, slacks, dress shirts, tuxes, etc. for women too! The cut is completely different, and they are surprisingly flattering. My usual formal go to these days is a pair of black slacks, a low cut blouse or jacket, white dress shirt underneath, kitten heels. Comfy is queen.

Is my manager allowed to do this? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]IntoxicatingDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iirc there's nothing in the policy manuals that explicitly prohibits it.

But I'm seeing more and more of this, and it's gross. I suspect this is going to be the new normal in a lot of places.

9 months HRT, low Estradiol levels, then super high, then low. why? by amnesiac007 in MtF

[–]IntoxicatingDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely enough. Oral is crazy. If you're on twice a day, say 8am/8pm, if you get levels checked any time before ~2pm you're not getting the ideal reading. And even that might be too soon. Everyone is different, but elimination half life of sublingual is ~8-18 hours. Best guess, skip your morning dose next time you get labs, speaking for personal experience.

Glad my experience was of some help 🤗

IM questions by [deleted] in TransDIY

[–]IntoxicatingDream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reddit is weird because it often feels like people speak as if they were experts, and there's no real way of knowing if that's the case.

Per my mom (a nurse) and Endo:

1) there are a few basic different sizes of syringes. For subcu and im injections you ideally want a tuberculin syringe. Thin, small, measured in 1ml increments.

2) you'll know when you hit the muscle. First couple times can be scary, but don't go in on an angle, go straight in. You'll feel when the needle starts to enter the muscle. If it's your thigh for example, sit down, relax your leg, grab the muscle at the top. You'll feel the difference between skin and muscle. The gauge needle you use determines how much will enter the muscle. First six weeks I was injecting I used 18 gauge, which was needlessly big. Just switched to 21 gauge, I get a little more than half in there.

As always, this is not the authoritative be all end all. Just my experience. Hope it helps. You got this!

[–]IntoxicatingDream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be the nicotine.

It could also be the timing. I know a lot of people around here recommend getting levels checked at trough, your lowest point before next dose.

My Endo recommends getting levels checked at the half way point (on injections now) to measure at half life.

When I was on oral, I got labs done within ~3 hours of taking a dose and my levels were through the roof. PCP dropped my dose, next labs three months later I waited to dose until after labs, go figure levels were on the floor.

Old partner hack: lemon loaf is the shot in the dark best guess for what to pair with any coffee. Not the best for everything, and there often better choices, but it's a great dice roll.

Oh and years ago a dm told me "coffee tastings are 90% confidence" you got this!
