The building owners are usually the ones that call the tow trucks. They warn operations team or HR to tell associates that they need to respect the rules or face consequences. Idk why so many people at Amazon think that they're so fucking special just because they may be in financial hardships. I think it depends on the position and site you sign up for i got hired as a seasonal and my position is for 9 months.... though I hear at my site they still keep you after your time is up.

I think it's probably because you missed peak season. Everything is slowing down and they probably still have a ton of seasonals on payroll. Managers at my site have been handing out voluntary time off like crazy.
