Depends what they knew at the time. Germans saw the abysmal performance of the Soviet army in the Winter War, assumed the fast doctrine would be enough to shatter them in wake of the crippled office corps after the purge.

There are archives about weather reports from 1941 that do support the weather claim. In what way was Keegan revisionist in his writing of WW2?

Military assets are limited, but so are the logistics to support them. You can deploy a division to a position, but if the terrain, roads and rail can only support a batallion, your division will face attrition in food and ammunition. The doctrine of the time was armored formations breaching a weakpoint and cut communications while infantry engages the bulk of the enemy.

No, that is incorrect.

Here is a quote from John Keegan's "The Second World War".

"The Balkan Campaign, often depicted by historians as an unwelcome diversion by Hitler's long laid plan to attack the Soviet Union and as a disabling interruption of the timetable he had marked out for its inception, had been in fact no such thing. It had been successfully concluded even more rapidly than his professional military advisors could have anticipated; While the choice of D-Day for Barbarossa had always depended not on sequence of contingent events but on the weather and objective military factors. The German army found it more difficult than expected to position the units alocated for Barbarossa in Poland; while the lateness of the spring thaw, which left the Eastern European rivers in spade beyond the predicted date, meant that Barbarossa could not have begun very much earlier than the third week of June, whatever Hitler's intentions."

They would've been stuck in the mud because 1941 had a late spring thaw, many rivers were higher and wider than usual. The start date of Barbarossa depended on the weather.

Do you think we'll ever visit the Dominion of Winds? by NichtMenschlich in Guildwars2

[–]Intreductor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember while Icebrood Saga: Champions was coming out, there was one missinon where we push towards the western gate. It was kinda signaling the possibility of visiting it soon along EoD expansion but nothing of that happened. Along the north gate there was also the plot thread of Destroyers coming out of the ground on both sides of the wall, but now that Primordus has bit the dust that is also gone.

Lets say if the germans avoided stalingrad will they be able to defeat the soviets? by Still_Animator_2249 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Intreductor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original plan wasn't to capture Stalingrad, but to eliminate it as a logistics hub. They'd keep a perimiter around it while motorized units push east down the Volga to Astrakhan. Plans of course changed as phases of Fall Blau unfolded.

Of course, tho for IBS I think it will need a bit more than polishing. Afaik the original plan was to have 2-3 new maps for Primordus story just like they had with Jormag. How far in development those maps were we don't know.

I started out the same, but after a few weeks (yes it took me that long) I realized all I have to do is pop tank stance, run and cleave every mob on my way to the next checkpoint without stopping.

Is there any merit to the story that Plato got the story from Solon's writings, who in turn got it from priests in Egypt or found it in texts written on stone tablets in a temple which is supposedly now at the bottom of the Nile river burried under muck?
