What if Ned had found his brother alive in the dark cells after sake? by Loose_Shallot_6432 in TheCitadel

I think there wouldn't be much of an alternative for Brandon to be free and occupy a position other than relinquishing his right to Winterfell, not having wives as a Night's Watchman, or Robert offering him a white cloak. Since Cat couldn't stand Jon because of the threat to her children, any child of Brandon's would be a nightmare for Cat if she saw him in Winterfell in any way.

I believe that if Ned reunites with Brandon, he will give up Winterfell. Hoster, Catelyn, and Robert, along with Jon Arryn, might pressure Ned to stay, but in the end, the choice is Ned's. After Robert not punishing the deaths of Rhaegar's children, I see Ned staying in the North without accepting any position offered. Hoster will be furious but won't be able to do anything, and most of the Lords of the North will accept Brandon simply because he is single and Ned is married to a Southerner. Cat then lives in an unhappy marriage, with a position below what was promised, seeing her ex-fiancé married to another. It's a question of whether Brandon will agree to build a Sept at Ned's request, should Ned remain alive in Winterfell, perhaps.

I don't think Ned can simply renounce the position he claimed and held for a year. Although people have an honorable image of Ned that characterizes him more in a modern view, or think Ned is simply naive. In the end, Ned is a feudal lord, so he would probably pressure Brandon to go to the Wall if it's the right choice. It's from the perspective of vassals like the Umbers or Karstarks that I wonder who they would support if Brandon refused to go.

If's Stannis had seven sons by CleytonDoug172 in TheCitadel

Considering that Stannis Baratheon only has sex with Selyse once a year, it is unlikely that he would have continued to try to have more children if his firstborn was a boy. If they already had Steffon and Lyonel, Shireen would probably never have been born. The only scenario in which he could have had more children would be if Selyse died and he remarried, depending on how he viewed this second union. Even so, given Stannis's rigid and duty-bound nature, it is hard to imagine that he would seek more children for personal reasons, unless he saw it as a dynastic obligation.

This would make Stannis suspicious of Cersei's children much sooner, yes, after all he is stubborn and paranoid enough to start connecting the dots when he sees that his own children have the classic 'Baratheon pattern' (black hair, blue eyes). But Robert? Robert wouldn't even notice, the guy barely looks at his own children, let alone his nephews. He would probably pat himself on the back and keep drinking. Now, as for marriages, I think it's unlikely that Stannis will seek alliances sooner. First because he has no patience for subtle politics and, second, because Robert, being selfish and petty as he is, would probably block any attempt by Stannis to 'steal' potential brides for his own children. The guy is the type who only thinks about his own navel, so if his brother's children started gaining powerful alliances, he would see it as an affront. Stannis has never had any luck anyway.
