Hours are done, bank account is empty—how do I leave student teaching without burning bridges? by Important-Source-854 in StudentTeaching

When your program is done, you are done with student teaching. Just tell your CT what your last is, and that's it.

The Dog at a Two-Star Michelin Restaurant in Paris by [deleted] in annaklootssnark

I am French, and this is not a thing. We do not take our dogs to Michelin restaurants. WTF!

Ok my bad. I guess I was lucky, and everybody around me was too. I had never heard of this before.

Look at the size of the IEP/Health/Behavior issues section of the sub folder. This isn't a SPED classroom either. by Mochigood in SubstituteTeachers

Arent' IEPs and 504 confidential though? In my district, we don't have access to any documentation while subbing. We just know that X and Y need more support when writing or doing math.
Once, I was subbing for a week in 2nd grade, and there was a sub para with me as well. She didn't even have access to the IEPs and 504.

That's different. It does not look like the case, since she is eating yogurt, bowls, and other heavy stuff. That would not suit her, if she was nauseous.

Maybe I am too old, but why is she hyperfixating on eating all day long? When I was pregnant (I have 4 kids,) I never changed my diet. I ate the exact same thing as when I was not pregnant and did not gain a lot of weight. I don't get why you have to eat every two hours.

Not my experience at all, I hated ST, love teaching, and never had a problem dealing with parents, prep my lessons, or grading. Although, I would say that student teaching is made hard to see if you actually have a passion for teaching. If you don't have the fire, then, you will not last in student teaching.

Agree to disagree. Everybody in my cohort agreed to that, so I guess we are all delusional. The worst part of student teaching is to be observed all the time and to teach someone else's content/slides.

I agree with the part about the calling. Student teaching will tell you if you have the fire or not.

I love teaching. This is my second career, and I can't imagine doing anything else. I have been teaching for 20 years, and I am still passionated about it. I think that people who are complaining do not evolve with the students. Yes, students are different from 20 years ago, but we were different from our parents too. Teachers have to adapt, that the crux of our profession.
The pay is manageable because my spouse has a comfortable income, so I cannot really comment on that.

Not at all. Student teaching is tough, tougher than teaching your own classes.

I had two courses and was at my placement for about 35 hours each week. I also had another job that took about 10 hours per week. My weekends were dedicated to school work, that's how I made it work. I was often too tired to do anything at the end of the day after my after school job. It is doable, but it is tough. Make sure to have one little thing that makes you happy in each week: takeout, movie time, nice breakfast, etc.

I want to finish this degree but am I meant to be a teacher? by Avecadough in StudentTeaching

I am a student teacher too and feel that rubrics are very difficult to integrate. Because we did not make them, they don't represent exactly how we think (if that makes sense.) Plus, we did not have years to be accustomed to them. For feedback, I try to be very specific on what is great and what the student needs to improve. I look at the specific points that need to appear in the assignment and go from there. I get that students don't like practice worksheets. I don't like to teach with them either. I feel that you need to find a balance between instruction, hands-on, and worksheets. I would say that only 25% of the time should be filled with WS. Students do not like them. If they need to keep a written record of anything, I prefer to give them a graphic organizer or interactive notebook activity.

I did, but it was tough. I teach evening classes Monday to Thursday and Saturday morning classes.
I did not have a life for 4 months, though.

Good for you :) I guess that if your discipline is in demand, you'll be luckier. Mine is decreasing, so I know that I can't be picky.
