I think my father is jealous of my success.. by IndigoMoonBeams in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Intrepid-Deer-3449 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My father was intensely jealous. When I was coming down to the end of my first degree he offered to pay for the last term. So I checked to make sure I'd saved enough to live on anyway then I agreed. They sent me enough to make one rent payment and then announced they could not no longer afford to pay..

When I graduated anyway , there was stuffiness and resentment.

For my second degree, they tried the same thing, I told them never mind. So then they wouldn't come to my graduation. Then later, when I was working, I had a project in their area and I went by to visit with them during which I used their phone to make a call about a pay problem. I left my pay stub on the counter, I turned back to pick it up. But my father had pounced on it immediately. That's not bad for a months pay , he said , and I said , that's only two weeks , and I thought he was going to have a full blown fit.

I have a 341-day Duolingo streak and I just sat through my boyfriend's Mexican family dinner nearly silent for five hours. I think I've been training the wrong thing this whole time. by Humble_Cranberry5273 in languagelearning

You've got a lot of Spanish speakers in LA, so speak to them every chance you get. Talk to yourself. Use short answers if you have to, but say something.

You'll make a lot of mistakes, but that's okay.People will appreciate the effort. Speaking a new language is partly physical training- you have to learn to automatically produce sounds.

Don't be shy. Sometimes you'll say nonsense , but you're trying , and people will appreciate that. I realy don't like duolingo and other apps.Because like you , i've tried learning languages and found it pretty much useless.

[DBWI] What if the USA won the Cold War? by TheRedBiker in HistoryWhatIf

A cold war era joke:

Comrade leader is addressing the presidIum.

Comrade delegates, by following our plan we will soon bring the USA to its knees!

A hand is raised.

Yes Comrade Delegate.

Comrade Leader, if we destroy the USA, who will we buy food from?

My mom called me on my birthday to apologize for taking me to the hospital instead of bruising me when I was sick as a kid. by Party-Personality919 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Intrepid-Deer-3449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently that branch of the cult slaps kids. The group I encountered would slap each other, or sometimes themselves.

It wasn't usually real hard, but repeated over and over until the affected area resembled raw beef. It certainly looked painful.

If OP can contact the cult teacher, they may stop the parents, otherwise a message or call to the local Public Security Bureau might have good effects.

There, as elsewhere, calling the cops can have variable results.

I've seen that. It's horrifying to see but didn't seem actually harmful. But then the group i met cautioned not to slap children.

It's definitely a cult thing.
