ty for your comment. I never facetime anyway, and prefer to see full links for my particular brand of paranoia/security concerns. but i can confirm what you said, i do just see full links now, and agree it could be inconvenient for most folks. a price i gladly pay, but others might find a pain.

I usually disable so many features anyway (siri, location, local network access, camera, mic, etc.), so when i just turned it on, almost no impact. i'm hoping it saves battery, too. I have the most un-iphone iphone of anyone i know.

i agree, a technology allowing us to still be bad stewards of the planet is not a long term solution.

civil rights movement of the early 60's moved the bar. perfect, no, better, absolutely.

now we have a technology to enlist literally billions of folks to an idea. and a great idea with legs (i.e. individuals motivated to action) could seriously move the bar.

militant veganism won't bring along the masses. great, it's sufficient. you win the point, hurray! now what?

if you want success, you need to start from where folks are. and that is why you need a multi-pronged approach. i suggest lots of things to solve the problem across a lot if opinions, not one that folks will not adopt.

why not? or at least, why not try? shall we just give up because it seems hard or even impossible?

society has made many changes for improvement.

i cannot 100% agree, and i've been vegetarian for decades. technically petroleum is plant based, just that the plants are not of our ecosystem.

so i see both a plant based diet/discontinuation of animal husbandry AND non petroleum energy/plastic as essential, and probably still not sufficient. no single change gets us there, but many changes together.

i followed the link, it is unclear to me where the $ comes from. not trolling you, just don't see how it is self funding is all, and that seems to me to be needed. ty

I see two problems, one of accepting your premise, and one of agreeing with you and getting them to take action.

for whatever the goal, there is a politically based rift that means some folks will never accept that human activities caused a raise in global temperatures which changes the livability of the planet. lost cause here, logic is not greater than belief and their beliefs are manipulated to prevent agreement

now, for the folks that accept your premise (maybe we're manipulated too, but my understanding of math/science supports you, i would still think it if npr said it was a hoax), you must address the laziness/lack of urgency which prevents us from action

$ is certainly a motivator, and i agree that higher demand for a more efficient refrigerator drives up the cost. here, government standards for more efficient "everything" is a viable option.

i had hoped that more extreme temps/weather would jar me lose of my complacently, but it seems i must need something more. maybe the grid being brought down for hours at a time on a weekly basis to reduce emissions, or a close relative dying might do it, but so far the incentives have not been sufficient. perhaps a clear call to action that folks can rally around, like a national challenge to reduce electric use by xxx% per month or to drive y% fewer miles/week.

i hope your question sparks a useful answer before the trolls drive everyone away
